Japan for all seasons

Our tours cover the length and breadth of Japan. Depending on the time of year and where you travel, you may experience two or more seasons as you journey through the region.

Tokyo

Tokyo enjoys distinct seasons, with summers that are hot, humid and rainy and winters that are mild and sunny. While September and October tend to be the wettest months, the spring and autumn are both wonderful times to visit with sunshine and warm temperatures.

Hakone/Fuji area

Set in a mountainous region, elevation plays a big part in the climate of this region. Summers however are pleasantly warm while winters are cool with snowfall at higher altitudes. Spring and autumn are sunny and temperate –perfect for exploring.

Kyoto

In Kyoto, there is a marked seasonal variation in temperature and rainfall, with hot and humid summers, complete with ‘rainy season’ from mid-June to late July, and winters that are cold with occasional snow. Spring and autumn are warm and pleasant.

Osaka

Osaka has four distinct seasons – hot, humid summers are marked by rainfall in June and July, while winters are mild. Spring starts mild and pleasant getting hotter as the summer approaches, while autumn starts hot and gets cooler as winter approaches.

Hiroshima

With hot, humid summers, cool to mild winters, and warm springs and autumns, Hiroshima’s warmest month is August and January the coolest. While rain can fall year round, peak months are June and July while winter is the driest season.

Takayama

Set in a heavy snow area, Takayama gets lots of snow in the winter, and hot, humid and wet summers, with September seeing the most rainfall. Both spring and autumn are short and sweet, with springs mild and sunny, and autumns dry and cool.

Nagano

Set in a sheltered inland valley, Nagano enjoys less rainfall than other cities, with warm, humid and wet summers and cold, snowy winters with clear, bright skies. Spring and autumn are pleasant and temperate, with plenty of sunshine.

Sapporo

Even with heavy snow and low temperatures in the winter, Sapporo is a year round city. In the spring, the snow thaws and while temperatures start off chilly they warm into a pleasant, mild summer with some humidity. Autumns are cool and dry.
