“Man is by nature a social animal,” so said the legendary Greek philosopher, Aristotle. It’s true of course, with the evolution of human social behaviour came the need to communicate. Like bread and water, communication is now a fundamental human need. We rely on language: being able to hear, interpret, understand and respond in order to function. So, it stands to reason that when our ability to congregate and communicate is restricted, our physical and mental wellbeing can be adversely affected. We’ve all become acutely aware of this over the past year of course but now, with the start of 2021, hope springs eternal and we’re all planning to be social animals again! Last year’s lockdowns forced us all to accept some degree of isolation, possibly for the first time in our lives. For us at Hearing Healthcare Practice, it made us appreciate even more the isolation described by our clients due to their less than acute hearing. Indeed, in our work, the importance of the fundamental need to communicate with others is at the very heart of everything we do.
