MAY 2015 LOCAL ELECTION INFORMATION FOR: WENDOVER & HALTON WARD ASTON CLINTON & STOKE MANDEVILLE WARD (INCLUDING WESTON TURVILLE)

AVDC Elections Desmond Anning

UKIP Steve Bowles

Conservative Party

Why UKIP? In the past we have had too many broken promises, a cast iron referendum,a human rights bill, control of our borders, all pie in the sky. Idiot ideas like HS2, freezing energy bills, cutting our defences, the list is never ending. What about Wendover? I live on the Princess Mary Estate, and apart from the roads still waiting to be made up and the street lighting to be sorted out I think it’s a lovely part of the world: Wendover Woods, the RAF being very generous with playing areas, all good stuff. If elected I will do my best to keep it that way. Steve is one of your District Councillors seeking re-election. He has attended Parish Council meetings and Local Area forums. He also sits on the Wendover Memorial Hall Committee. He has assisted residents with various issues and concerns and is working with the Parish Council in the preparation of their Neighbourhood Plan and liaising with AVDC to resolve Wendover’s parking issues. He has actively fought against HS2 since its announcement and made representations to the Secretary of State, Prime Minister and HS2 Chairman to convey your concerns. Steve welcomes the opportunity to continue as your District Councillor, working for the community, raising your concerns and influencing the way services are delivered and your money spent.

Liberal Democrats Sue Hetherington

UKIP Tom Hodge

Green 1st candidate

Sue Hetherington has lived in Wendover for over 20 years, having moved here from High Wycombe. She worked full time for over 40 years, spending 30 years in IT, latterly at the Bank of England. She did a variety of jobs for the last 10 or so years of her career, including adult literacy teaching in prisons and statistical work at Magistrates Courts. Since retirement, Sue does much local community voluntary work. It is a particular pleasure when it touches upon Sue’s passions of wildlife and the environment. Sue looks forward to using her skills and life experience serving her community.

Aylesbury Vale Green Party is standing 3 candidates in the AVDC elections in Wendover. We are the only party that has opposed HS2 in Parliament since 2010, whatever UKIP say. We will enforce the Hunting Act in Aylesbury Vale and halt the rollout of the failed badger cull. Green Party candidates will support local businesses, oppose fracking and work hard to ensure that recreation facilities are properly maintained and that the mounting litter problem is tackled. A Green District Council will pay at least a living wage to those providing public services and work towards £10 an hour by 2020.

Wendover & Halton Ward Chris Peeler

Green 2nd candidate

Chris has been resident in Wendover for over 40 years and his main concerns have been environmental, both with regard to Wendover issues and nationally. He has been a member of the Green party for the last two years. Locally he has tried hard to raise the profile of cycling, since he is convinced that if more Wendover residents cycled instead of using their cars, Wendover would benefit both from a better environment and a general improvement in health. He supports the Green party since it gives prominence to major environmental issues such as global warming and he supports his party in their opposition to HS2.

Conservative Party

My name is Marc, (36) I lived in Halton after joining the RAF Police in 1998. After leaving the RAF I continued to live in Buckinghamshire and the surrounding counties. I moved back to Halton Village three years ago and find that the area has become my home. I am engaged to be married in June this year. I work for a manufacturer in Little Kimble. In my spare time I follow rock music and movies but also take time for my allotment. I have plenty of time outside this to support my community and friends and I believe that standing for UKIP is the best way I can do this.

A keen hiker in the Chiltern Hills, Andrew Southam is standing as a Conservative Party District Councillor to contribute to community life, represent local views, and protect local interests. Among other activities, particular agenda issues he wants to pursue include developing a walk through Wendover and Halton on aspects of historical and natural interest to promote local tourism; deepening the proud links that Wendover and Halton have with the RAF community; developing outdoor youth facilities, particularly promoting the Halton Air Training Corps and working with other organisations to develop the local environment including the repair of country pathways. • • • • • •

The Green Party is a party of social and environmental justice. We believe in “The Common Good” - a politics that works for the benefit of all. We are the only party that puts the environment at the heart of our policies. Green Party have consistently voted against HS2 in Parliament. HS2 is an energy-intensive, over-engineered railway which will cause massive damage and disruption to Aylesbury Vale. Nationally, we will argue to bring the railways back into public ownership.

Councillor Peter Strachan is standing again having been elected as an AVDC Conservative Councillor at the last election. A former Wing Commander, Peter took early retirement from the RAF 10 years ago. He and his family have lived in the area since 1995, when he first served at RAF Halton. Peter has always taken an active interest in the local community and believes that local politics is about local people shaping their own community. If elected again, he pledges to continue to do his best representing the community he lives and works within. As a local Councillor, Peter promises to put the constituents of Wendover and Halton first at AVDC.

I pledge that if elected I will ensure that an up to date Aylesbury Vale Development Plan is put in place. As I have discovered personally, without a current Development Plan, we are defenceless against the developers who are targeting our villages. I pledge that any development keeps to the 35% affordable homes quota. Our young people deserve the chance to rent or buy in the community where they have grown up. I will not make simplistic, unachievable statements just to get your vote. I am a 67 year old retired Secondary Head Teacher who has lived in Aylesbury Vale for the last 14 years.

Living locally for 45 years, Geoff has been married to wife Lesley since 1967. Part of the business community, he runs a local fitted bedroom and furniture fitment studio and workshop. He is very interested in our shared local heritage, in views on marriage and other imposed changes and legislations, in local planning developments and in the importance of local community having a say on things that affect them. With three daughters all schooled in Aston Clinton and Aylesbury, he cares passionately about all age education and child care. As an active Christian he believes every person has great creative potential.

With 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild she cares passionately about creative children’s education from the earliest stages. As an active Christian she believes every person has great creative potential. Lesley has: worked in the family business; helped establish and work a floristry business; taught art in school and all whilst being a home-maker and gardener. Current interest is art restoration.

Bill has devoted his life to helping others and being an advocate for the residents of Buckinghamshire. Over the years Bill has helped residents deal with many issues including traffic and development and he will use his strategic planning knowledge to help develop Aylesbury Vale in a more managed way. Away from politics Bill enjoys spending time with his young grandchildren, gardening and collecting small antiques.

I lived in Aston Clinton before moving to Weston Turville six years ago with my wife Joan, and I have been involved in the local community for over 30 years. Before retiring I worked for the British Heart Foundation whilst also being actively involved in village life. I am the founder of the Aston Clinton Community Group, organised the first village day, founded the Aston Clinton Tennis Club as well as organising two History of Aston Clinton Exhibitions all whilst driving the dial-a-ride community bus. I have always put the local community first and will continue to do this if elected on 7th May. I am also a member of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. • • • • •

I have had the privilege of representing the Aston Clinton ward for 16 years. Today our villages are facing more threats than at any time in the past. HS2 will have a devastating impact, as will opportunistic housing development which makes no improvement to local services. Our schools are full, waiting times for a GP appointment are increasing, our roads are already congested. I will continue to fight HS2 but strive to get the best mitigation should it come. I will continue to get the Local Plan in place quickly to stop all these unwanted planning applications.

Where will your councillor be when you need them most? Phil will be on your side, not on the fence! He has an incredibly strong record of standing up for local people.
