Apprentices Breakfast Event
Fire it Up: National Apprenticeship Week With 45 apprentices currently on site and having achieved over 95% of our apprenticeship and local employment targets, we are incredibly proud to have provided 125 apprenticeship opportunities (and counting) at Wembley Park since our Skills Programme officially launched in 2017. We recently celebrated National Apprenticeship Week by hosting a networking event at Wembley Park’s much loved community centre, The Yellow, for apprentices to celebrate their successes and contributions to the transformation of the area. Matt Voyce, Quintain's Executive Director of Construction shared the long term vision for Wembley Park in order to provide apprentices with a further understanding of the role they play in making the grand plan come to life. Following praise and congratulations from Quintain's Chief Executive Officer, James Saunders, the apprentices were able to network with each other and with senior staff in the Design Team, in a professional but relaxed atmosphere.
The Mayor of Brent made a surprise appearance and thanked Quintain and Wembley Park for the effort made to recruit Brent residents into construction roles. He loved meeting the apprentices and giving them wise words of encouragement on how to make the most of their various career opportunities.
Enticing breakfast by The Clink Events
Breakfast was provided by The Clink Events, a social enterprise providing bespoke catering beyond the walls of prison and providing prisoners training and the opportunity to gain experience in event catering— their training goes towards gaining their Level 1 and 2 NVQs in Professional Cookery. the Grand Hall, Brent Civic Centre. The event was a collaboration between Brent Council and Quintain and supported by Wates, McLaren and Sisk, to celebrate women in the world of work, honing in on the theme of ‘each for equal’. The event included a range of inspirational keynote speakers and a panel discussion with local women with varying professional backgrounds discussing their experiences in the professional environment. The event saw the launch of the Professional Women's Network, which looks to provide a forum for women working in various industries, such as retail, finance, construction and so much more. If you are interested in finding out more about the network, email:
skills@wembleypark.com Donations for charities were collected during the day, for these fantastic organisations: Bloody Good Period collect unopened boxes of pads and pantyliners and distribute them to women who can’t afford them, such as refugees and asylum seekers. Dress for Success collect high-quality, gently-used workwear, including shoes, accessories and unused, sealed cosmetics for clients to use in their upcoming job interviews or work to help give women a new start. Suited and Booted collect suitable interview clothing to support vulnerable, unemployed and low-income men into employment.
