Double delight as city scoops prized awards THE City of Wells and The Bishop’s Palace have both won prestigious awards at the 2019 British Coach Tourism Awards. The City of Wells was awarded the top prize for Coach Friendly Destination, a reward for two years of partnership working from key players in the city’s tourism industry to improve both the facilities available to coach tourism groups and the offer once they arrive. The Visit Wells and Visit by Coach groups comprise members from Wells Cathedral, The Bishop’s Palace, Wells & Mendip Museum, Wells Civic Society, the city council and the chamber of commerce, and has been facilitated by Ian Jefferies, an expert in group and coach tourism. Diocese to buy Aster offices THE Diocese of Bath and Wells has announced that it is going to buy the office building owned by Aster Communities at Cathedral Park to use for its offices when it moves out of The Old Deanery. It was originally going to relocate to new purpose-built offices at Cathedral Park, on the outskirts of Wells, but changed its plans when Flourish House became available. Contracts were exchanged on March 19, with completion set for later this year, and Aster moving out and the diocese relocating by early 2020 after work has been completed on an internal re-fit of the building.
