Coronavirus: One-on-one interview with a Wells student who had previously contracted the coronavirus.

When asked what it was like for him and his family to have Covid19, he said this;

"It was pretty much like the flu in every way, but my throat swelled up at one point and made it hard to breath or drink or eat anything, and I had the worst headache for a couple weeks."

Covid-19 Update Since February, Covid cases have been going down! On Jan 27 there were 21680 new cases, on Feb 22 there was only 4972 new cases!

SPELLING BEE UPDATE: Congratulations to Noah Milly for his placement on the spelling bee! In the last edition I talked to you about all of the wonderful competitors who won the grade level competitions. One of these students, Seventh-grader Noah Milly ended up winning the school spelling bee and went on to the county wide competition.

I interviewed Noah about his placement and what it was like to win, and how he won. "Everyone did really well, it all just comes down to who studies the hardest," he said. After all is said and done although Noah may have been the winner, many of our Wells students performed well in and won our grade level, school wide and other spelling bees. Lets be proud to have some smart students alongside us.

ROAD TO REOPENING FINALIZING THE HYBRID IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION PLAN

MOVING INTO HYBRID IN-PERSON Will you be going back to school?

The Dublin Unified School District has been in the process of finally finalizing the process of moving into hybrid in-person/remote instruction in middle schools, with most DUSD elementary schools already in the process of hybrid in-person reopening.

After many months of behind-the-scenes work at the district, hybrid in-person instruction soon comes to be, a wish made since the beginning of our (almost 1 year) quarantine. Specifically, the Site-Specific Safety, COVID Protection, and DUSD reopening plans have been completed to the near-fullest extent, details of which you can find at dublinusd.org Hybrid in-person details A/B schedule blocks, lasting two days a week, with Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday in-person blocks. With declaration forms being the last step needed to return back to school, hybrid in-person is planned for an April return.

What Districts Have Opened?

Here's The Facts: 39 States have not issued a formal order on reopening schools 7 States, including CA, have ordered partial closures Out of all 50 states only 4 states- Iowa, Arkansas, Texas and Florida have ordered reopening's Goldenview Elementary in San Ramon, CA is set to reopen with a hybrid model on Wednesday, February 17th-more on that later!

How is school going to be different What is going back going to look like

It will be up to your parent or legal guardian to say if you will be going back to school when Wells opens or if you will be going onto campus or if you will be staying on online classes. If your guardian says you can go back to school you will have to wear a mask stay away from people as much as possible.

Districts that are going back to school are only going back with kindergarten-6th grade only. Sources are saying that some schools and districts are going back into a hybrid of half still in zoom What is on campus going and half going on to to look like campus.

What is it like to go back: Interviews

Teacher

Erin Campbell is a 3rd grade teacher at Golden View Elementary, located in San Ramon CA. When asked what going back was like, she said; "The students are excited and are more motivated to work. They follow all the safety protocols and are staying safe.

As a teacher it has been awesome to see them with their peers... reading, learning and playing! Students need to be in a classroom, it is the most successful environment for them to get their education.

Gabby Munar is a 8th grade student at St. Justin_, located in San Clara,CA. When asked what going back was like, Gabby said "Going back was scary not going to lie I was exited to see my firends but knowing it won't be the same was hard, knowing that, but it was amazing to actually see people in person and be on campus was AMAZING!"

What Are Students are Learning In Class?

Alyssa Bladecki- 7th History Mr. Regalado When I asked Alyssa what she was learning in history class she said, "I am learning about African culture."

Specifically right now, she is learning about West Africa.

Jasmine Castillo- 7th Yearbook Mrs. Ronnow When I asked Jasmine what she was learning in Yearbook, she said, "We are talking to different students in every grade on how our students at Wells connected people and made friends. So far many people have said sports, school or even from family like family friends."

Student Elective Interviews: Alyssa Bladecki Art

When asked what her elective was like, Alyssa responded with; "It's very fun and interesting and we get to doodle and make crafts as well. We also get to build things."

Dustin Thompson Adv. Drama When I asked Dustin what it was like and what he does in Drama, he said, "Drama is a really fun class where you learn about acting and perform skits and plays."

Wells Talent Show When I interviewed Naya Sattoud she said:

""The reason for my part in the talent show being a cartoon(or animation) was because I wanted to build up on what me and my friends did in last year's talent show, which was a crayon song that ended in disaster. I really cherished that moment on stage with them and so I wanted to keep the fun alive and asked each and everyone of them to answer a question in their character for their part in the cartoon. I solely wanted to leave a memorable time for middle school so I can look back on it and change middle school from being the worst like everyone says to the best. I was very excited about the animation getting in there. I even couldn't stop talking about it! XD"

Wells Talent Show

The annual Wells Talent show took place on Friday, Feb. 26th. Even with distance learning still in place, our amazing Wells staff managed to make it work, even though they had to do it digitally.

When I interviewed Easton Nguyen on his act for the talent show, he said:

"I'm doing a saxophone quartet for the talent show.

I'm pretty excited!"

WOMENS HISTORY MONTH

Womens history month is celebrated from Tuesday March first to Thursday March 31 Women's History Month is a month dedicated to highlights of the contributions from women .

The month is set aside to honor women's contributions in American history. Women's History Month began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California.

1. Eleanor Roosevelt held women-only press conferences.

2. The Empress of the East” was one of the most powerful women in history.

3. Ancient Egyptian women had equal right to the throne.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH Important Dates February 1st 1865- The 13th Amendment, to the U.S. constitution, which abolished slavery.

Important People Rosa Parks- One of the several women who refused to give up their seats on a bus due to her race.

February 9: Most people think of Martin Luther King Jr.- A leader Rosa Parks as the first woman to of the American Civil Rights refuse to giving up their seat on a Movement. Also he gave the I bus, But there were several women Have A Dream speech in front of before her. One of whom was the Lincoln Memorial.
