message OF WELCOME from General Manager David Dome Hi everyone and thanks for coming along to our special event tonight – the Nix Stadium Experience in conjunction with our friends at Kapura.

And an event isn’t an event without quality food and drink, so we’ve roped in Fortune Favours and Hell Pizza tonight to keep everyone well-fed, watered and happy.

Wednesday’s nail-biting 2-1 victory against Perth Glory marked a return to the Phoenix’s winning ways, and hopefully it’s the start of another Nix winning streak as we inch ever closer to a second-place finish for the first time in club history.

The reason for this event is simple; we know that you, like us, miss our Phoenix matches being played at the iconic Sky Stadium. So the idea was hatched to bring the atmosphere of the stadium to the fans in an indoor setting, alongside a match day experience that reminds people how much fun the Nix are to watch with a crowd!

As always we had strong performances from the established ‘stars’ in the team like Gary Hooper and Ulises Davila, but I was particularly pleased with the play of youngsters Callum McCowatt and Te Atawhai Hudson-Wihongi - their futures look bright and we hope to keep them both in the yellow jersey.

Back to tonight. It’s been a lot of hard work to make this night possible, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of so many people and businesses.

Kapura have been a fantastic partner of ours all season and they’re a key part of the Nix Stadium Experience; a special thanks to Jamie Williams and all of his team for helping make this event happen tonight.

A huge drawcard tonight is the massive TV screen you’ll be watching the match on, which is courtesy of the team at AV Media.

While it’s a challenge to build an indoor stadium with New Zealand’s largest indoor TV screen and grandstand seating, it’s all worth it to be able to watch the Nix live and in life-size… all we need to top this off is a victory against Adelaide and to move up to second place on the ladder!

taylor bio In July 2018 the Wellington Phoenix signed ex-Newcastle United and England defender, Steven Taylor, to the club.

The then 32-year-old has had an illustrious career to date, including 194 appearances for Newcastle United in the Premier League before joining Portland Timbers in the MLS and Ipswich Town and Peterborough United in the English Football League.

His achievements included winning the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2006 before winning the Football League Championship in the 2009, both while at Newcastle United FC. In his first season with the Nix, Taylor made 22 appearances and shored up the Phoenix defence alongside veteran defender Andrew Durante – quickly establishing himself as a fan favourite with his hard-nosed, gritty play.

With Durante departing at the end of the season to join Western United, the captaincy was handed to Taylor and he has responded with arguably his best season to date; leading the competition in blocks and playing every minute of the season so far.

Taylor has provided solid leadership for the team and has been lauded by Coach Ufuk Talay - for both setting a winning example and being a mentor for the younger players.
