Admissions Quick Guide
COURAGE KINDNESS RESPECT INTEGRITY RESPONSIBILITY
Welcome from the Master A very warm welcome to Wellington College Bangkok. A flourishing school is a place where people flourish. Where students discover new knowledge, experience new understanding, and develop new skills – and where they genuinely enjoy the process. Where adults are the models for young people’s values, relationships and behaviour. Where the environment complements and enhances every element of school life: it is open, welcoming, calming, lively, comfortable, exciting, beautiful, and complex. And I’m delighted to welcome you to this flourishing school. Wellington is driven by strong values. This has always been true, ever since our founder, Queen Victoria, opened the College to its first students in 1859. Today, those values – Courage, Kindness, Respect, Integrity and Responsibility – underpin every action and decision, and are infused into how we learn, and how we live. Every Wellingtonian also has an overarching purpose: to become more Inspired, more Intellectual, more Independent, more Individual, more Inclusive. That’s who we are, and who we are becoming, day by day. I expect extraordinary academic results of course - but, equally, I expect extraordinary everything. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, on the sports field or through service to others, every student should discover their own strengths and leave Wellington as a confident, compassionate and capable young adult, ready to flourish in university and beyond. I look forward to welcoming you to our community and showing you what makes Wellington College Bangkok such a special place to learn, grow and belong.

Our School Curriculum KEY STAGE 1 Developing strong foundations across the curriculum
EYFS Building confidence through play and discovery
KEY STAGE 2 Deepening knowledge and independent learning
EARLY YEARS
FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) | Ages 2-5 The Early Years Foundation Stage provides the foundations for every child’s future learning, development and wellbeing. Through a carefully balanced combination of play, exploration and structured teaching, children develop confidence, curiosity and independence in a safe and nurturing environment. The curriculum is centred around seven areas of learning, including communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, physical development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design. Experienced teachers encourage children to investigate, question and collaborate, helping them develop the skills needed for a successful transition into primary education. The focus is on fostering a lifelong love of learning while supporting every child to progress at their own pace.
KEY STAGE 1 YEAR 1-2 | Ages 5-7
Key Stage 1 builds upon the strong foundations established in the Early Years, introducing greater structure while maintaining an engaging and stimulating approach to learning. Pupils develop essential skills in English, mathematics and science, alongside a broad curriculum that includes history, geography, computing, art, music, physical education and languages where appropriate. Learning is designed to encourage creativity, collaboration, resilience and independent thinking. Children begin to apply their knowledge across different subjects, strengthening their confidence as learners. By the end of Key Stage 1, pupils have developed the core academic and personal skills that prepare them for the increased independence and challenge of the Junior years.
KEY STAGE 2 YEAR 3-6 | Ages 7-11
Key Stage 2 broadens pupils’ knowledge and deepens their understanding across an increasingly challenging curriculum. Alongside continued development in English, mathematics and science, pupils explore humanities, computing, languages, the creative arts and physical education in greater depth. They are encouraged to think critically, solve problems independently and communicate their ideas with confidence. Opportunities for leadership, performance, educational visits and co-curricular activities support personal growth alongside academic achievement. As pupils progress through Key Stage 2, they become increasingly independent learners, developing the resilience, organisation and curiosity required for a smooth transition into Senior School.
9
KEY STAGE 4 IGCSE excellence and future readiness
KEY STAGE 3 Preparing for academic specialisation
KEY STAGE 5 A Level specialisation and university preparation
KEY STAGE 3 YEAR 7-9 | Ages 11-14
Key Stage 3 marks the beginning of Senior School and provides a broad, academically ambitious curriculum that prepares pupils for future specialisation. Students study a wide range of subjects, including English, mathematics, sciences, humanities, languages, computing, the arts and physical education, while developing strong analytical, research and communication skills. Learning encourages intellectual curiosity, creativity and independent thought, supported by expert subject specialists. Beyond the classroom, students participate in a rich programme of sport, music, drama, leadership and service opportunities that help develop confidence, character and resilience. By the end of Key Stage 3, students are well prepared to make informed choices for their IGCSE studies.
KEY STAGE 4 YEAR 10-11 | Ages 14-16
During Key Stage 4, students begin internationally recognised IGCSE qualifications, combining a strong core curriculum with carefully selected optional subjects that reflect their interests, strengths and future aspirations. Learning becomes increasingly specialised and rigorous, with students developing advanced subject knowledge, critical thinking and effective study habits. Teachers provide personalised guidance and support, helping every student achieve their academic potential while continuing to develop leadership, creativity and personal responsibility through an extensive co-curricular programme. Success at Key Stage 4 provides an excellent platform for progression to Sixth Form and opens pathways to leading universities both in the UK and around the world.
KEY STAGE 5
SIXTH FORM (YEAR 12-13) | Ages 16-18 Key Stage 5, commonly known as Sixth Form, prepares students for university, careers and life beyond school through an academically challenging and highly personalised education. Students take A Levels, allowing them to specialise in subjects aligned with their strengths and future ambitions. Teaching places strong emphasis on independent learning, critical analysis, research and intellectual discussion, mirroring the expectations of higher education. Alongside academic study, students take on leadership responsibilities, participate in enrichment opportunities and receive comprehensive university and careers guidance. By graduation, students leave as confident, articulate and globally minded young adults, equipped with the knowledge, skills and character to thrive at the world’s leading universities and in their future careers.

In Pre-Nursery, Nursery, and Reception, children follow the English Early Years Curriculum, with an initial focus on: • Personal, social, and emotional development • Physical development • Communication and language development Each Early Years classroom benefits from direct, free-flow access to outdoor learning spaces and close links to our unique learning studios, where age-appropriate learning continue throughout the day, and is structured by class teachers around break and lunch times. The Class Teacher oversees most of the curriculum and provides the excellent pastoral care for which Wellington is known. Specialist teachers lead Thai language, Mandarin, Music, Swimming, and Physical Education. Positive relationships between teachers and children are central to success. Teachers observe, assess, and plan learning experiences to ensure that every child is supported and appropriately challenged. As a result, students develop strong foundations in early literacy and mathematics, alongside an increasingly sophisticated understanding of the world around them. 11

The Wellington Heritage Wellington College in England provides an unrivalled learning experience for its students and serves as an inspiration to all who visit. Our School has a very proud history, which stretches back over 160 years. The Wellington College was founded in 1859 in the English county of Berkshire, by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, to commemorate Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington. The school was intended to support the children of soldiers killed in war, many of them orphans. Under its first Master, Edward White Benson, the College very quickly established itself as a successful and prestigious learning environment, a boarding school highly sought after by many parents across England and the world. The school’s Boarding Houses were named for significant friends and associations of the Duke; today, there are eighteen of them, spread across the expansive 450-acre grounds. Wellington is also, notably, home to the chapel and cloisters, which honour former students killed in two World Wars.
The Wellington International Family Wellington College International (WCI) schools are a leading group of K-12 international schools in premium global locations. WCI currently has 8 schools in the family educating over 8,000 students aged 2-18. There are five international schools situated in Tianjin, Shanghai and Hangzhou, China, Pune, India, and of course Bangkok, Thailand. Additionally, there are 3 bilingual schools located in Shanghai, Hangzhou & Nantong, China. The network continues to expand, with new schools announced to open over the coming months and years in Indonesia, Nigeria, Qatar, the USA, Kazakhstan and Kenya. Each school increases the possibilities and potential for all staff, students, and parents to connect across the family of schools. To facilitate this connection, we organise annual student exchange programmes, teacher secondments, student summer schools, collaborative projects and competitions, alumni events and knowledge & expertise sharing opportunities across our network of schools. 13

14
Class Sizes Wellington College Bangkok operates class sizes which are in line with those in international school settings. Our personalised learning environment – enabled by small class sizes – allow us to ensure all students receive a customised learning experience where they are known to all teaching staff. Our youngest children operate with a staffing ratio of one adult for every four children, while students in Junior and Senior School will never be in a class of more than 25 students, and in most cases, our average class is around 20. Students in Key Stages 4 and 5 (IGCSE and A-Level studies) will be in smaller class sizes as they will select dedicated subjects based on their preferences. This allows our students to receive close, personal tutoring at the most critical of learning junctures.
English as an Additional Language (EAL) Provision At Wellington College Bangkok we are rightly proud of our diversity and aim to celebrate each and every one of the nationalities and cultures that, together, form our collective identity; an identity that makes us proud to be together each day. Supporting children from various backgrounds as all international schools do, creates a range of needs in the students that walk through our doors. Most of the children at Wellington College Bangkok are what we call EAL learners to some degree or another but what does EAL mean? A learner of English as an Additional Language (EAL) is a pupil whose first language is one other than English. ‘First language is the language to which the child was initially exposed during early development and continues to use this language in the home and community. If a child acquires English after early development, then English i s not their first language no matter how proficient in it they become.’ Learners will be at different stages of English language acquisition (from complete beginner in the Nursery to advanced bilingual), but even those at the same stage of English language acquisition will have different backgrounds and needs. For example, they will have had different previous experiences of schooling before they came to us. Some will be literate in other languages and might already have developed concepts in other subjects, such as science and mathematics, through another language. Others will have had little or no formal e ducation and might not be literate in any language. Some will be gifted and talented, others will have learning difficulties and/or disabilities. All students joining Wellington College Bangkok will undergo entrance assessments to help us identify any areas in which they need to be stretched/challenged as well as where they may need support, and this includes for EAL provision. If needed, our teachers are well versed in supporting EAL needs in a variety of ways inside the classroom, including additional support for general tasks, but also via dedicated support with reading, writing and speaking. Students will continue to receive this support until they are able to participate in classes without the need for it a ny longer. In some cases, this can be within months, but because every child learns at a different pace, for others i t may take longer.
15
WEx
Wellington Extra Wellington Extra (WEx) is our extensive co-curricular programme, offering students from Nursery through to Year 13 the opportunity to explore new interests, develop existing talents and enjoy learning beyond the classroom. Available every weekday, WEx provides a diverse range of activities designed to complement the academic curriculum while supporting the development of the whole child. Whether students are discovering a new passion or pursuing a long-standing interest, the programme encourages confidence, curiosity, resilience and teamwork in an enjoyable and supportive environment. With opportunities spanning sport, the arts, academic enrichment and personal development, students can choose from activities such as Art and Painting, Ballet, Basketball, Chess, Cooking, Cricket, Golf, Gymnastics, Swimming, Taekwondo, Science Club, Triathlon, Public Speaking and Parkour, alongside many others. These experiences help students build friendships across year groups, develop leadership and communication skills, and foster healthy lifestyles and creativity. By participating in Wellington Extra, students broaden their experiences, strengthen their character and develop the confidence to embrace new challenges both inside and outside the classroom. These all sit alongside our Enrichment programme which also offers a range of different activities at the end of the school day for students to expand their horizons beyond traditional academic study.

Our Admissions Team will guide you through each stage, from your initial enquiry and school visit to assessment, offer and enrolment, ensuring you have all the information and support you need to make an informed decision.
Families are encouraged to contact the Admissions Team and arrange a campus tour. This provides an opportunity to visit the school, meet staff and learn more about the curriculum and facilities before applying. For those located outside of Bangkok who are unable to visit in person, we offer both a 360 Virtual Tour of the campus and online meetings to talk through information about the school as well as to answer any queries.
