The Old Wellingtonian Society Charitable Trust (“OWSCT”) was set up in 1992 to provide charitable assistance in support of both Wellington College’s educational objects and the Old Wellingtonian Society’s objective of providing a ‘whole-life community’ for the alumni of Wellington College.
The OWSCT also administers the Herbert Old Wellingtonian Trust and J L Bevir Memorial Fund, which have been combined into the OWSCT. The identities of these trusts have been retained for the award of grants, scholarships, and bursaries but the assets have been pooled.
Many Bevir grants in the past have assisted OWs to work, study or conduct research usually, but not always, abroad. The pandemic has obviously prevented that during much of the last two years. We are keen to ensure that those leaving College during these difficult two years should not forget the assistance that can be offered to those with worthwhile, enterprising projects in mind.
The Herbert Trust exists to give mainly temporary help towards the cost of educating children of OWs whether at Wellington or elsewhere. The trust can intervene, for example, where a child’s existing education is threatened by an event such as the incapacitation or death of a parent.
The OWSCT’s other function is to provide OW prizes, and tankards and medallions each year for national recognition in Sport and the Arts.
We are also delighted to welcome two new trustees, Alison Scott (Ap 92) and Fiona Haywood (Ap 86).
