Dear Parents I am delighted to welcome you to our Open Day, whether you are new to the School or have children moving on to the next stage of their Wellingborough experience.

You will get to hear about our excellent pastoral system which runs throughout the School and which underpins much of what the pupils achieve. Ensuring that the boys and girls are happy gives them the basis from which they can flourish in a supportive environment to respond to a dynamic, challenging academic diet whilst also enjoying the opportunities that open up through our wide co-curricular programme.

Admissions at Wellingborough

Make an enquiry Get in touch with our Admissions team or fill in our enquiry form to discuss your child’s education and check availability in your required year group. Either visit our website or call to enquire.

Register your child For your child to be eligible to sit the entrance examination you will need to complete a registration form and pay the non-refundable £75.00 registration fee. As part of this process, we will ask to contact your current school to support their application for a place.

Entrance Examination We hold annual Entrance Examinations in January for all applicants applying for years 7-10. These consist of CAT testing, an English paper and a Maths test. In the Prep School, applicants from years 3-6 are required to complete CAT testing, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning tests as well as a written short story. Sixth Form applications are based upon GCSE results.

Offer & Acceptance If an applicant has passed the entrance examination, interview, if applicable, and we have recieved a satisfactory reference, they would be invited to join us at Wellingborough School. The offer would be accompanied by an Acceptance Form and Terms & Conditions. If you wished to accept the offer, a completed acceptance form and £500.00 deposit must be returned.

The Nursery At Wellingborough School

Our Prep School runs from Reception to Year 6, in two parts, Lower and Upper Prep.

The philosophy behind the Prep School curriculum is to provide a balanced programme which gives a thorough grounding in the core subjects while offering the children a broad spectrum of experience in Language, Art and Design, Music and Drama, and Sports.

Children fulfil their potential when they are happy and confident and we look to promote this ethos in every day school life through our club system, close pastoral care and wellbeing services.

Prep School

Our Senior School is made up of over 600 pupils from 11-18 years of age.

Pupils are organised into four boys’ and three girls’ Houses and follow GCSE and A Level courses.

Senior School

Well over 90% of our Upper Sixth pupils normally proceed to leading English universities.

Wellingborough Sixth Form is a vibrant, friendly and aspirational community where we develop the whole pupil in preparation for life beyond school.

Academic work and success are central to this community and our over-riding ethos in the pursuit of intellectual curiosity is both expected and encouraged.

What are the costs of the Admissions Process?

To register your child will need to pay the £75 non-refundable Registration fee. If you are offered a place and choose to accept it you will need to pay the £500 Acceptance deposit, which is refundable upon your child leaving the school.

Do you offer sibling discount?

A 10% discount is applied to the third child and 25% to the fourth ( and additional children thereafter). The discount is applied to the termly bill of the youngest child. More information on fees can be found online at www.wellingboroughschool.org/fees Is there transport to and from School?

The school runs various bus routes through the county. We currently have 5 routes running and details can be found at www.wellingboroughschool.org/transport Do you take pupils at any stage of entry?

Pupils can join different year groups at various times of the academic year, subject to available spaces and meeting the entrance requirements. Our largest intake Year groups are Year 7 and Sixth Form, but places in Nursery, Reception, Year 3 and Year 9 are also very popular.

Entrance Examinations Entrance Examinations will take place during January 2022 for entry in September 2022.

Entrance to Sixth Form is dependent on GCSE results and therefore does not require the candidate to sit an entrnace exam.

Applicants for other Year Groups in the Senior School can also attend the Entrance Examinations in January, or alternatively the assessment can be arranged on an ad-hoc basis.

All candidates must be registered with us in order to sit the Entrance Examination.

Scholarships Exceptional ability is celebrated at Wellingborough, and the highly prized title of Scholar is one way in which talent is recognised.

A Scholarship is applied for by the pupil, and there is a rigorous selection process including an interview. The title of Scholar is accompanied with a small monetary award - up to £100 per year in Years 7-11 and up to £200 per year in the Sixth Form.

Scholarship Applications are open for Years 7-Sixth Form for Academic, Art & Photography, Drama, Music and Sports.

Bursaries Wellingborough is a diverse and welcoming community, a School which believes that our fees should not present a barrier to children who are in a position to benefit from the opportunities that we offer.

We can offer eligble parents or guardians finacial assistance with tuition fees. Such support is know as a Bursary and is aimed towards the Senior School, usually for pupils joining us in Year 7 or Lower Sixth.

The Bursary fund is finite and demand usually exceeds available resources.

It is important therefore that bursary applications are recieved on time.

Completed applications for entry into September 2022 must be recieved by the School by Friday 21st January 2022.
