Newarc, Newcastle, New Era Discover Newarc's

NEWARC, NEWCASTLE AND A NEW ERA

Newarc planted its roots in the North East of England in 1972, a stone’s throw away from the iconic Tyne bridge that spans the river of the same name. It was the decade that saw the introduction of inverter-based technology; a giant leap forward in the designs of semi-conductor technology which led to transformers becoming smaller, lighter and more efficient. This in turn allowed welding machines to be more portable and cost effective - and this is where Newarc laid their welding helmet!

From small beginnings: The first production unit was the Viper200 a compact TIG control unit. When used in conjunction with a welding rectifier or generator it facilitated TIG welding. This was soon to be joined by the first inverter-based power sources. The R3000 (a 300A MMA Inverter), the R1500, and the RT2000 TIG Inverter quickly followed. The jewel in the crown was set in 1999 when the Viper 2000 and Viper 2500s were developed, an industry leader which still remains unrivalled today. With a full range of MMA/ MIG and TIG equipment, the Newarc range soon built up a reputation for robust, reliable, and easy to use equipment that adorned many fabrication yard, shipyard and nuclear site in the UK with their identifiable bright orange and blue livery.

The late 1990s saw the brand enter into the export market, dipping its toe first into the Far East, then the Middle East and Caspian region. Now, nearly 30 years on Newarc has a firm global presence. Our power sources have been used all over the world to construct bridges, pipes, offshore jackets, vessels and even a flagpole for the Eurovision contest in Baku, Azerbaijan! Today Newarc is part of Weldability sif, further enhancing our product portfolio. We are still located within sight of the River Tyne, albeit on the opposite bank. We are proud to have a dedicated team that has over 100 years’ experience between them, all committed to developing, manufacturing and testing our equipment to the highest standards to ensure our products meet our customers’ needs.

We are a small team but with big aspirations, we are continuously developing our existing products and adding to our range, watch this space, 2022 is set to be an exciting year!

Since their conception in 1972, Newarc have developed and built all their welding machines in Northern England. This reputation of unparalleled robust and reliable equipment has earned them a steady place in the market as they prove to be favourites among ship builders, oil riggers, and anyone else working in extreme conditions. Newarc machines are developed for welders by welders at the research and development department at the centre of Newarc HQ.

This means that occasionally, Newarc are able to make adaptions to their machines in order to better fit the client’s needs when there isn’t a suitable solution on the market.

EWS required two R7000 power sources to run in parallel in order to power an Arcair torch for Arcair carbon gouging. Predominantly, this would be used within the castings industries to wash out the post casting defects before dimensional infill welding with either an MMA or MIG process. It can then be re-worked to form the desired casting in its entirety.

The linking of the two R7000 enables them to use the largest carbons the market has to offer and therefore provide greater clearance/ washing efficiency. EWS are currently testing the duty cycle, then our set up will need to go to site for trial. EWS are responsible for multiple sites, therefore after a positive trial of this bespoke configuration, a short production run will be set up to supply all three foundries.
