made it through the first few weeks of November! It was hectic for sure, as we entertained our Activity Directors and Managers through our annual ‘Boot Camp’. Boot Camp allows us to highlight some of our Valley attractions and network with each other to discuss items of interest that directly affect Winter Texans across the Valley.
This week, we’re take a little breather. We will be taking off some time to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families while trying to squeeze in a bit of rest. We have to prepare ourselves for the next wave of Winter Texans who will be checking in shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday! At Welcome Home RGV, we are so thankful for each and every one of you. Wherever you may be this Thanksgiving, know that you have a team working tirelessly to keep you informed about all the Rio Grande Valley has to offer. Ricky Tims, international quilting celebrity and co-host of the online TV program at TheQuiltShow.com, will be presenting Quilt Luminarium January 28-29, 2018, at the South Padre Island Convention Center on South Padre Island in conjunction with the Rio Grande Valley Quilt Show. Quilt Luminarium is a two-day, comprehensive quilt symposium that demystifies seemingly complex concepts, teaches mastery of unique techniques, and harnesses the power of the ever-elusive muse of creativity. It covers a wide range of topics, including innovative piecing, appliqué, quilting, and finishing techniques. Sessions also include design and composition and color theory.
Quilt Luminarium presenter Ricky Tims is a longtime entertainer, encourager, comedian, and motivational speaker. He has a unique and pragmatic way to help one realize his or her full creative potential. Tims unmasks the creative psyche and reveals common attributes-both good and bad--that creative individuals share. Quilters will learn how to take traditional patterns and make them unique and how a pattern can be adapted to reflect any quilting genre. Tims says, “This is the only event of its kind in the world. It is jam-packed with great information, inspiration, and a heavy dose of entertainment.” “So many of us work in our own comfort zone,” one participant said. “Some of us are afraid to take risks in working ‘outside the box’ in our creations.
