Lots Happening at Weslaco Museum

There’s nothing like spending time

with friends. This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to spend the day with 40 activity directors from parks across the Rio Grande Valley. We started off at Pirate’s Landing in Port Isabel. What a treat! If you haven’t had a chance to dine there, I highly recommend their fried shrimp, although some of our group chose a variety of their salads, and some ordered their burgers (which looked incredible)! Following lunch, we spent the afternoon on a dolphin watch with Osprey Cruises. There’s something about being on the water that just makes me happy. It was a wonderful trip, and the dolphins did not disappoint. Immediately after the dolphin watch, we spent the afternoon shopping on the square, and those who were feeling a bit adventurous went on a Segway tour through the downtown area. We ended the afternoon at Marcello’s-one of my favorite restaurants in the entire Valley. All in all, a great day was had by all. The purpose of this Port Isabel adventure was to provide our activity directors with the opportunity to get to know each other, have a little fun, and make connections so they can better serve YOU throughout the season ahead. I look forward to seeing you out and about this season! • We’re just connecting the dots,

Kristi

Their string of hits includes the pop-charttopper Elvira, as well as Bobbie Sue, Dream On, Thank God for Kids, American Made, I Guess It Never Hurts to Hurt Sometimes, Fancy

They’ve scored 12 gold, three platinum, one doubleplatinum album, and one double-platinum single and have had more than a dozen national numberone singles and over 30 Top-Ten hits. Every time they step before an audience, the Oaks bring three decades of charted singles and 50 years of tradition to bear on a stage show widely acknowledged as among OAK RIDGE BOYS RETURN CONTINUED ON PAGE 2 >>

spend time with friends and family eating large amounts of food and reflecting back upon the year and what blessings we each have been given. With this in mind, Weslaco Museum would like to invite you to join us throughout the month of November at some of the wonderful activities we have planned. These activities would be a perfect opportunity to share some time with the ones you love. On November 19 at 2 p.m., Dr. Irving Levinson will give a presentation on Mexico’s Involvement in the U.S. Civil War. This will be a wonderful presentation covering a lesser-known aspect of the war that divided a nation. The events that occurred during this time have had far-reaching effects that are still being felt today. If you haven’t had time to come and see the awesome art exhibit Dia de los Muertos, created by the students and teachers of Weslaco ISD, you still have time to stop by and see the talent our community has. Our gallery is filled with altars, calaveras, a large Catrina, and many other pieces of artwork unique to this celebration of life. Weslaco Museum is located at 500 S. Texas Blvd. Their telephone number is 956-968-9142. Visit their website at weslacomuseum.org or follow them on Facebook. As always, we hope to see you at the museum (and don’t forget to bring your family or a friend). We have something for everyone. •
