What to Know About Progreso

Winter visitors appreciate the little Mexican border town known as Nuevo Progreso, just south of Weslaco, Texas. A short walk across the Progreso International Bridge--over the Rio Grande River--and you’ll find a very welcoming community plus curio shops, pharmacies, restaurants, and bars. Tips:

• Plan to leave early to avoid lines at Customs upon your return to the U.S.

• Bring cash: $2.00 for parking on the U.S. side; $1.00 to enter Mexico; .30 to exit

• Wear a hat and sunscreen.

• To re-enter the United States: U.S. citizens need a valid ID and birth certificate; Canadian citizens need a Canadian passport*
