SESSIONS

We want y’all to meet our summer and youth volunteers. They are the best-est!

Last summer, we were blessed with an amazing group of volunteers. These students came in for the summer to get volunteer hours to meet their school requirements. We were blessed to reap the rewards of joy and friendship from that requirement. A few of our volunteers are mother/daughter teams; what a treasure of time to share.

These volunteers were the ones who provided the “muscle” for the special projects we did over the summer. As many of you have already seen, we have a new Sit-n-Knit area outside, and it is lovely. Peggy’s Porch is definitely a work of love. These girls got to work with their drills, saws, and paintbrushes--in our South Texas 100°-plus heat--and helped produce a beautiful space for us all to enjoy.

All of our summer youth volunteers are taught how to loom knit first, just to be able to help out in our Sit-nKnit spaces when anyone needs a little help getting started. They also volunteer to teach our crochet and knitting “learn2” classes, whenever needed. During a summer day, you can usually find them tackling a project, like sorting the Donation Chest or putting the donated yarn into the right tubs. And when all the sorting is completed, they are off to the Sit-n-Knit area to work on another item for the Donation Chest.
