Rick Dolliver Shaves His Head Again for Charity OGUNQUIT Og unquit Select Board member and local business owner Rick Dolliver has not had a haircut in months, but all that’s about to change. Dolliver is once again raising money for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program and will shave his head for charity Tuesday, Sept. 29, during a special event at his restaurant, That Place in Ogunquit. The event will raise money to support children battling cancer and blood disorders. Maine Children’s Cancer Program, a 501(c)(3) organization, is the pediatric oncology
program of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland. It provides treatment for children diagnosed with cancer and blood disorders. Donations raised through the fundraiser will go directly to local children, young adults, and families who rely on the program, according to Dolliver. Dolliver has hosted headshav i ng f u nd ra i se r s t w ice before—in 2014, when he raised $51,000, and in 2022, when he raised about $229,000. His goal this year is to raise $300,000 for the hospital.
“We did this in 2014 and the support was incredible. We raised $50,000 for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, and it was such a humbling and rewarding experience. Now, here we are [again], and I’m even shaggier than the last time,” said Dolliver. The event will begin at 2 p.m. and will be catered by a local food service. A silent auction that afternoon and evening will help the campaign reach its $300,000 goal. Artwork by area artists and other items will be up for auction, including a University of Michigan football helmet
signed by former NFL quarterback Tom Brady and a framed, signed jersey from former Celtics shooting guard Ray Allen. The bar will be open all day, with all proceeds from bar sales going directly to the cause. Others may join in and shave their heads or beards for the cause. During the 2022 fundraiser, the town’s former fire chief shaved off his handlebar mustache. Eliot Festival & 5K Road Race Set for Sept. 25-26 ELIOT The public is invited to join Eliot’s 45th annual Festival Days on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26. Proceeds from the Eliot Festival & 5K Road Race will be donated to Mainspring Collective, the Town of Eliot Fuel Assistance Fund, and the William Fogg Library’s Green and Beautiful Campaign. The Chili Contest, hosted by Eliot/Kitter y American Legion Post 188, kicks off the weekend on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Eliot Boat Basin, with live music by Bat’s Band and fireworks scheduled for 8 p.m. The rain date for the chili contest and fireworks will be Saturday, Sept. 26, at the same times.
