Rick Dolliver Shaves His Head Again for Charity OGUNQUIT Og unquit Select Board member and local business owner Rick Dolliver has not had a haircut in months, but all that’s about to change. Dolliver is once again raising money for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program and will shave his head for charity Tuesday, Sept. 29, during a special event at his restaurant, That Place in Ogunquit. The event will raise money to support children battling cancer and blood disorders. Maine Children’s Cancer Program, a 501(c)(3) organization, is the pediatric oncology

program of The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center in Portland. It provides treatment for children diagnosed with cancer and blood disorders. Donations raised through the fundraiser will go directly to local children, young adults, and families who rely on the program, according to Dolliver. Dolliver has hosted headshav i ng f u nd ra i se r s t w ice before—in 2014, when he raised $51,000, and in 2022, when he raised about $229,000. His goal this year is to raise $300,000 for the hospital.

“We did this in 2014 and the support was incredible. We raised $50,000 for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, and it was such a humbling and rewarding experience. Now, here we are [again], and I’m even shaggier than the last time,” said Dolliver. The event will begin at 2 p.m. and will be catered by a local food service. A silent auction that afternoon and evening will help the campaign reach its $300,000 goal. Artwork by area artists and other items will be up for auction, including a University of Michigan football helmet

signed by former NFL quarterback Tom Brady and a framed, signed jersey from former Celtics shooting guard Ray Allen. The bar will be open all day, with all proceeds from bar sales going directly to the cause. Others may join in and shave their heads or beards for the cause. During the 2022 fundraiser, the town’s former fire chief shaved off his handlebar mustache. Eliot Festival & 5K Road Race Set for Sept. 25-26 ELIOT The public is invited to join Eliot’s 45th annual Festival Days on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26. Proceeds from the Eliot Festival & 5K Road Race will be donated to Mainspring Collective, the Town of Eliot Fuel Assistance Fund, and the William Fogg Library’s Green and Beautiful Campaign. Scouts participate in camping, hiking, backpacking, canoeing and other outdoor activities, with overnight and weekend trips held throughout the year. Scouting also provides opportunities for leadership and community service. Scouts plan activities, lead their peers, participate in projects such as town cleanups, and work with York Land Trust and other community organizations. The program also emphasizes practical skills, including first aid, budgeting, teamwork, and self-reliance. Troop 301 will hold an information night and season kickoff from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Seapoint Beach, Sea Point Road, Kittery Point, with a bonfire and snacks. SOUTH BERWICK The Old Berwick Historical Society invites the community to gather Friday, Sept. 25, at noon for the unveiling of a memorial plaque honoring Marc and Ginny Alterio, recognizing their many years of dedication and service to the Historical Society. Over the years, the Alterios gave generously of their time, talents, and good humor. They planned and hosted house tours, cooked colonial dinners for the Historical Society’s fundraising auctions, and enthusiastically took on roles ranging from a nun to a rum-running bartender in the Society’s memorable dinner theaters. Their generosity to the Society continued after their deaths through a gift from their estate. The plaque will be placed on the Counting House Museum flagpole, which remains dedicated to those who served the country. The site is especially fitting: while serving on the Historical Society’s Board of Directors, Ginny organized the effort to raise the funds to erect the flagpole in 2015. The public is invited to join the Historical Society as it remembers Marc and Ginny and

Admission to all activities is free. The Festival Parade has a new starting location. Now central to the Festival, the parade also follows a shorter route, making participation more accessible to all. The parade kicks off at 10:30 a.m. from the William Fogg Library, 116 Old Road, passes the review stand across from Hammond Park, and ends at Moses Gerrish Farmer’s Road. Leading the musical entertainment for the day is Dancin’ DJ Carmen Cronin. Live music throughout the day features the talents of Joenny Vargas and Max Sullivan Group. The Kids Fun Run, sponsored by Kaknes Landscape & Patio Supply, starts at 10 a.m. and is a “run your age”-style race. It will start and finish at Town Hall immediately after the 5K awards

A box of cereal, to be donated to the Mainspring Collective Food Pantry, is the “price of admission.” The first 75 children who donate a box of cereal will receive a free T-shirt, similar in design to the 5K shirts. Kids up to 15 years old can participate in the Doughnut Eating Contest in front of the Hammond Park gazebo, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Doughnuts are provided courtesy of Eliot Dunkin’. Anyone 16 and older can join the Pie Eating Contest, also in front of Hammond Park, beginning at 1 p.m. This year, contestants can choose from a larger selection of pies: blueberry, apple, or triple berry. Maine Heads to The Big E with Food, Farms, Makers WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA From loaded Maine baked potatoes and lobster rolls to wild blueberry crisp, maple milkshakes, smoked salmon, and wood-fired pizza featuring Maine ingredients, the tastes and traditions of Maine are returning to The Big E this fall. The Big E, New England’s largest annual agricultural fair and the only multi-state fair in the country, runs Sept. 18 through Oct. 4 at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA. The 17-day event brings together food, agriculture, crafts, entertainment, and exhibits representing the six New England states. The State of Maine Building, located on the Avenue of States alongside buildings representing the other five states, will welcome visitors throughout the fair, with Maine Day celebrated Saturday, Sept. 19. For more than a century, the Maine Building has introduced generations of fairgoers to the people, products, and traditions that make Maine stand apart. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) owns and operates the building as a showcase for Maine agriculture, food, fisheries, forests, tourism, artisans, and businesses. “The Big E gives Maine a special opportunity to showcase our food, farms, and agricultural businesses to people from across New England and beyond,” said DACF Commissioner Amanda Beal. “Food is one of the most immediate and memorable ways to make that connection. Someone may come into the Maine Building for a baked potato, lobster roll, or a maple or wild blueberry dish, but they leave with a greater appreciation for the farmers, producers, and small businesses behind those products.” The Big E gives Maine businesses access to a larger regional marketplace. For exhibitors and makers, the opportunity extends beyond sales during the fair, allowing them to introduce their products to new customers and potentially generate future visits, online purchases, and other business. “We view the Big E as both a marketplace and a long-term opportunity to build awareness of Maine agriculture,” said DACF Bureau of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources Director Craig Lapine. “Many of Maine’s farms and food businesses are small businesses, and reaching an audience of this scale is difficult to accomplish individually. By bringing them together in the Maine Building, we can show visitors the robust diversity of what Maine grows, harvests, makes, and creates.” Food remains one of the biggest draws at the Maine Building, and the 2026 lineup offers fairgoers plenty of ways to experience Maine. Longtime favorites include the Maine Potato Board’s loaded baked potatoes and Maine lobster rolls. Tree of Life Maple Farm will offer organic Maine maple syrup,

maple cream, candy, cotton candy, coffee, and milkshakes, while Valley View Orchard Pies brings fruit pies, whoopie pies, and other baked goods from its Oxford bakery. The Maine Aquaculture Association will offer smoked salmon while introducing visitors to Maine’s growing aquaculture sector and the Maine Oyster Trail. This year’s offerings also highlight collaborations among Maine farms and food businesses. Fields Fields Blueberries, a woman-owned organic wild blueberry farm in Dresden, will serve wild blueberry crisp topped with Maine-made Gifford’s ice cream. QP Burger Food Truck will bring together products from multiple Maine businesses in its burgers, hot dogs, and sides, including Fox Family Potato Chips, Raye’s Mustard, and Morse’s sauerkraut. Fire & Company Catering will showcase Maine flavors through wood-fired pizza and beverages featuring Maine producers and ingredients. “These collaborations tell an important story about Maine’s food economy,” Beal said. “When Maine farms, food producers, and businesses use and promote one another’s products, the benefit reaches beyond a single business. Visitors get a great Maine experience while seeing firsthand how interconnected our agricultural and food community can be.” Beyond food, the Maine Building will feature Maine-made wood products, jewelry, personalcare items, artisan goods, and gifts from local makers. Visitors also can see Maine-grown dried flowers from the Maine Flower Collective and learn about the state’s forestry heritage from the Maine Forest and Logging Museum. “Our goal is to spark a connection with Maine that inspires a visit to our state for culinary experiences,” said Maine Office of Tourism Director Carolann Ouellette. “Fair attendees get to learn about the farm and people behind the product, and that develops a bond that we hope will carry forward.”

Taste of Kittery Features Local Bites, Beer, Live Music KITTERY The sixth annual Taste of Kittery will bring together restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and food producers from across Kittery on Saturday, Sept. 19, from noon to 3 p.m. at Post Office Square, 10 Shapleigh Road. The event will feature tastes from participating food and beverage businesses, along with live music throughout the On Saturday, an opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting at the Maine Building will be followed by activities and exhibits throughout the day. Maine will also be featured in The Big E’s daily parade that evening, with Maine 4-H and Maine FFA members participating in events throughout the fair. Every day, he reveals more of that affectionate, devoted companion he’s becoming. Safe Haven’s Thrift and Treasure Shop at 1784 Post Road in Wells is opening early on Saturdays and Sundays: 10 a.m. instead of 11 a.m. until further notice. The shop needs volunteers who enjoy marketing and preparing items for sale. Early morning shifts are available from 9 a.m. to noon, as well as during regular business hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All new volunteers will receive training and will work with another experienced volunteer. The shop offers three-hour weekly shifts pricing donations, once a week. The work is interesting, fun, and educational, and the environment is relaxed and happy. Donations are accepted Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. Safe Haven is currently accepting like-new and clean seasonal clothing, holiday décor (especially Halloween), small indoor furniture, art, pottery, jewelry, antiques, and and unusual or interesting items. WELLS Meet Oliver, the once-lost boy who’s ready to be found. Born January 2025, Oliver is a handsome strawberry-orange sweetheart with a gentle spirit and a quiet hopefulness. His story began in the woods, where he wandered alone until a Good Samaritan brought him to Safe Haven. That single act changed everything. It gave Oliver the chance to leave danger behind and discover what it meant to feel safe, loved, and at home. When he f irst arrived, Oliver was timid and shy. He accepted soft pets but kept his guard up, overwhelmed by all the new sights, sounds, and people. But curiosity was tucked inside this boy’s heart, and it didn’t take long for it to peek through. Once he was introduced to Safe Haven’s open adoption room, Oliver began exploring; cautiously at first, then with growing confidence. He found hiding spots, investigated toys, and even attempted some introductions to his feline roommates, who kindly reminded him that friendships sometimes require a little space. Today, Oliver is blossoming. He’s learning that people can be trusted, that gentle hands bring comfort, and that face scratches are wonderful. Eleanor E. Caffrey, 87 WELLS – Eleanor E. Caffrey of Wells died September 10, 2026 at Avita of Wells, a memory care community. Eleanor was born in Lawrence, MA, the only child of Frederick Waugh Cronshaw and Ella St. Pierre Cronshaw. She was a graduate of St. Theresa grammar school in Methuen, MA and St. Anne High School in Lawrence, MA. She graduated from Merrimack College in 1961. After working as an editor for Raytheon in Andover, MA, Eleanor married Thomas F. Caffrey of Lawrence on August 18, 1962, at St. Theresa Church in Methuen. Following a honeymoon in Nova Scotia, they lived together in Ardmore, PA while Tom finished his education at Villanova Law School in 1963. Upon returning to Massachusetts, Eleanor and Tom lived on Tower Hill in Lawrence for 40 years, where they raised their four children: Maura, Matthew,

Eleanor is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Tom, as well as their children: Maura Caffrey of Berwick and Maura’s children, Abigail and Henry; her son, Matthew Caffrey and his wife, Liana, of Andover, MA, and their daughters, Michela, Natalie, and Sophia; her daughter, Sarah Bachand and her husband, Thomas, of Wells and their children, Thomas and Caroline; and her daughter, Alanna Rosenberg and her husband, Jasper, of Arlington, MA, and their children, Monet and Miles. Eleanor’s wake was held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, at Bibber Funeral Home in Wells, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Mary’s Church. WELLS On April 15, the WellsOgunquit Community School District (WOCSD) held its 40th annual Literary Achievement Awards ceremony in the Olenn Performing Arts Center at Wells High School. 13 WOCSD K-12 students placed first in their respective grades in the contest, which had 225 student submissions. Cutone distinguished himself both in and out of the classroom. He served as president of the National Honor Society and competed in tennis, demonstrating dedication and perseverance in his academic and extracurricular activities. This fall, Cutone is attending the United States Naval Academy, where he plans to study aviation with the goal of becoming a fighter pilot. Chicken Tikka Rolls Ingredients

2 Tbsp. ginger-garlic paste 2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice

2 Tbsp. plain whole-milk Greek yogurt 4 tsp. tandoori masala

6 (10-inch) metal or wooden skewers

6 (8-inch) ﬂatbreads (such as naan) 2 Tbsp. ghee or melted unsalted butter 1 medium red onion, thinly sliced (about 1 cup)

1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro 1/3 cup green chutney

Directions Stir together chicken, gingergarlic paste, lime juice, yogurt, tandoori masala, oil, vinegar, chile powder, salt, and garam masala in a large bowl until evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, up to 4 hours. Preheat grill to high (450°F to 500°F). Thread chicken evenly onto skewers, leaving about 1

Top evenly with red onion and cilantro; drizzle evenly with green chutney. Roll tightly, and serve immediately.

The event will feature special guest Micah Johnson, an American charcoal artist who works from a seaside studio in York. He has since developed a body of work in charcoal, large-format painting, and public sculpture that has been exhibited at Christie’s, Bonhams, and Art Basel Miami, and featured on the

cover of TIME Magazine. Johnson is also the creator of Aku, a 3D-animated Black boy who wears an oversized astronaut helmet. The character’s middlegrade novel debuted at No. 6 on The New York Times Best Seller list. Johnson began creating artwork depicting African American children in space helmets after a young boy asked him whether astronauts could be Black. The work became a symbol of limitless potential. “Aku: Journey to Ibra,” an origin story for the character, is Johnson’s first book. Museum Hosts Creative Family History Workshop KENNEBUNK The Brick Store Museum invites the public to explore family history through art during a workshop with Artist-in-Residence Kristin Simmons from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23. Going beyond the traditional family tree, participants will create a handmade genogram that brings their ancestry to life through watercolor, illustration, personal symbols, photographs, and ephemera. Guided by Simmons, participants will explore the occupations, places, relationships, and stories that define their family histories, as well as their connections to the people and land that shaped them. Those taking part are encouraged to bring copies of family

photographs, documents, or other meaningful materials they would like to incorporate into their projects. Large-format paper, watercolor, pencils, and adhesives will be provided. No previous art experience is necessary, and all experience levels are welcome. The workshop is part of the Brick Store Museum’s Artist-inResidence program, which creates

~ Arts & Entertainment ~ Haley Art Gallery Hosts Author Sarah Ignatius KITTERY Haley Art Gallery will host a book conversation with moderator Judy Saryan and author Sarah Ignatius on Ignatius’ newly-released book, “The Kaleidoscope of Destiny” (Koehler Books 2026), Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. Set in 1915, “The Kaleidoscope of Destiny” follows 14-yearold Arakel, who dreams of traveling the Silk Road with his two best friends, one Turkish and the other Armenian. Arakel and his family are among the forcibly exiled Armenians driven into the desert during the Armenian Genocide. To survive, Arakel must rely on Arab camel drivers, Bedouins, Germans, Turks, Kurds and even a wandering dervish—people he has been taught to consider his enemies. His dilemma is whether he can trust them. Ultimately, the novel reaffirms the shared humanity of people caught in even the darkest of times. The Kirkus Book Review praised “The Kaleidoscope of Destiny,” saying, “This moving account of the Armenian genocide deserves a place on class-

room bookshelves and on reading lists next to Anne Frank’s ‘The Diary of a Young Girl.’ A beautiful and poignant novel that humanizes the Armenian genocide for a contemporary audience.” A human rights lawyer and nonprofit executive, Igna-

Legislation to Modernize NOAA Fishery Stock WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Angus King (I-ME) is cosponsoring legislation to update the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s capacity to track and protect fisheries. The Fisheries Science Modernization Act would incorporate environmental DNA (eDNA) and other biomolecular tools into NOAA’s fisheries science programs, bolstering their ability to conduct more accurate and cost-effective stock assessment surveys. NOA A’s stock assessment methods are limited due to their high operational costs and limited vessel availability, resulting in gaps in survey coverage. The Fisheries Science Modernization Act would integrate eDNA into these assessments, a method that is already widely used in the private sector to close these gaps by enabling sampling in remote or hazardous environments while reducing costs.

“Fisheries have long been an essential part of Maine’s economy and culture, and their enduring prominence depends upon their sustainability,” said King. “The Fisheries Science Modernization Act would provide the NOAA with the advanced tools necessary to conduct more comprehensive surveys of our fisheries. By painting a more accurate picture of species health, we can be certain

The event aims to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death among women and claims a woman’s

life about every 80 seconds, according to the American Heart Association. The State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), pursuant to Rules Relating to Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund (SRF), Chapter 230, Section 6 has prepared an environmental assessment for the Kittery Water District. The Maine DHHS has reviewed a submitted environmental information document of the proposed project to receive funds from the Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund (DWSRF). From this review it has been determined the project will have no significant adverse effects and will improve the human environment of the York area. Therefore, an environmental impact statement will not be required to be prepared. The proposed action is the expansion of the existing water treatment plant building to allow for facility upgrades, including two new filters, a new clearwell, backwash equalization basins, a new sedimentation basin, expanded building areas for the chemical feed system, electrical, mechanical, and finished water pump room. Site improvements include alterations to an existing residual drying bed, construction of a new residuals drying bed, access road improvements, relocation of an existing garage, upgrades to existing underground piping, and installation of a new septic system. A review of the proposed action by the DHHS has indicated that there will be no significant environmental impact. Further records to this project are on file and are available for review at the offices of the Kittery Water District at 17 State Road, Kittery, Maine 03904 and at the Department of Health and Human Services, Drinking Water Program, 286 Water Street, Key Plaza, Augusta, Maine 04333.

Memorial Field Construction Begins KITTERY Memorial Field is now closed to the public as construction begins on the Memorial Athletic Complex. The closure follows Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 3, marking the beginning of a major redevelopment project years in the making. Approved by Kittery voters in 2024 through the Recreation for All initiative, the project is the result of years of planning, community input, and preparation. Construction on the redesigned complex will include two youth baseball fields with natural grass, a multipurpose field with infilled synthetic turf, and a high school baseball field. The Wells Planning Board will hold a Public Hearing regarding the following proposal during the Planning Board meeting on Monday, September 28, 2026, which begins at 7:00 P.M. and will be held at the Wells Town Hall, 208 Sanford Road, Wells, Maine. I. BROOKSIDE FARM II SUBDIVISION – Home Innovations LLC, owner/applicant; Acorn Engineering, agent. Final Subdivision Amendment Application to develop phase 2 which shall continue to be a major residential cluster subdivision. Phase 1 is proposed to be amended to reconfigure lots 7A-7 and 7A-8 so a new private street (to be named Needle Way) serving phase 2, can be built. Phase 2 to consist of 17 new lots / single-family dwelling units. The total number of lots / dwelling units in phase 1 and 2 shall be 42. Phase 1 consists of 62.24 net acres. Phase 2 consists of 51.04 net acres. Total acres for phase 1 and 2 to become 113.28 net acres. A minimum of 50% open space is also proposed. Seacoast Golf Recap PORTSMOUTH, NH Fifty Seacoasters battled in an Individual Stableford Tournament on the Par 71 Front-Back Pease Golf Course on Sept. 2. Six golfers soared above their opponents by finishing in first place in their respective flights. With 37 Stableford points, Rick Wesley won Agamenticus Division’s Foster Flight (12-25 handicap). Bauneg Beg Division’s top golfer with 36 points was Vinny LoBello who won the Stark Flight. Also with 36 points, Michael Martel finished in first place in Agamenticus Division’s McClary Flight (2-12 handicap). Ken Seus and Ed McDonough each scored 36 points and tied for 1st in Bauneg Beg’s Constitution Flight (4-11 handicap). Jerry Fraser’s 34 points earned him the win in BB’s Dearborn Flight (14-21 handicap). The Bulldogs travelled to Hebron for an away opener to take on the Lumberjacks, coming away with a 4-0 win. Setting the tone, Carly Shumway carried the ball up the left side of the field, dribbled past the goalie, shot and scored

three minutes into the match. In the 22nd minute, Shumway shot another one into the net from 25 yards out off an assist from cocaptain Emma Rich. One minute later, DeSimone shot and tucked in another goal off an assist from defender Liv Pate.
