22nd Annual Inter-Tribal Native American Council Pow Wow WELLS The Wells Chamber of Commerce and the New Hampshire Inter-Tribal Native American Council have announced the 22nd Annual Pow Wow to be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19, at Wells Harbor Park, 331 Harbor Road, Wells. The events take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The weekend will feature dancing, vendors, and Native American arts and crafts for sale. Drumming demonstrations by
Host Drum Humble Spirit, Guest Drums Northern Lights, and Eastern Medicine Singers will take place throughout the event. A public auction also is planned. Randall Cutting will serve as master of ceremonies, and Dail Dragonfly Martin will provide Native flute music. The Grand Entry ceremony takes place at noon on Saturday. Limited parking will be available inside the Pow Wow area at Harbor Park. The harbor parking lot across from the entrance to
Harbor Park is reserved only for vehicles with boat trailers. Cars without trailers may park on the north side of Harbor Road. Overflow parking is available at the rear of the Wells IGA on Main Street. Suggested donation is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors. All proceeds go to assist the Council’s education programs. Textile Drive Offers Second Life for Clothing, Footwear KENNEBUNK Just imagine what 53,000 pounds of textiles looks like. That is more than 27 tons—the equivalent of two empty Casella refuse trucks, 2.2 empty 72-passenger school buses, 15 Subaru Crosstreks, or thousands of shirts, pants, shoes, towels, sweaters, blouses, purses, sheets, sandals, running shoes, dress shoes, boots, backpacks, skirts, and decorative pillows. This is what Kennebunk’s St. David’s Episcopal Church has collected through its past six textile drives, thanks to donations from local businesses and neighbors working together to reduce textile waste. The church hosts the textile drives three times a year to help keep clothing and other materials out

Shellfish Lab Now Open WELLS The Wells Harbor Shellfish Lab is officially open for the season! The lab is a research and educational facility open to the public, where all types of ocean life are studied, such as algae, clams, lobsters, horseshoe crabs, and more. The lab operates under the direction of Rachel Carr and Kaitlyn Daly. Carr has found a new source for sea critters and is bringing in some unusual species this season. One of the lab’s main projects is a clam tank with 12 silos filled with baby clams. The project is raising 100,000 clams this summer, giving the public a chance to see the young shellfish up close and learn about the research taking place at the lab. The public is welcome to

Ke n nebu n k por t, A r u ndel, Wells, Ogunquit, Cape Porpoise, Biddeford, and surrounding communities have donated clean textiles and footwear to St. David’s drives since 2023. The public is invited to participate in the next drive on Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Quest Fitness parking lot, 2 Livewell Drive, Kennebunk. Donors are asked to bring clean, unwanted textiles and footwear in separate, sturdy plastic bags for collection by the all-volunteer team. The donations will add to
the more than 53,000 pounds of materials collected through previous drives. Items that cannot be accepted include jewelry, bed pillows, rubber-backed rugs, boxes, odorous items, luggage, and foam rubber. The first 40 donors will receive a Congdon’s Wooden Nickel, redeemable for a free Congdon’s donut, while helping extend the life of unwanted textiles through reuse and recycling. Ogunquit Sandcastle Contest Set for July 18
OGUNQUIT Sandcastle builders of all ages are invited to take part in Ogunquit’s annual Sandcastle Contest on Saturday, July 18, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ogunquit Beach, 115 Beach St. The event is hosted by Ogunquit Parks and Recreation
