Ways to Help Resolutions Stick! In the heat of the New Year’s Eve countdown, fueled by enthusiasm and possibly a few glasses of champagne, resolutions may roll off of the tongue. But come the morning of January 1, such resolutions may not hold the same appeal. Between 40 and 45 percent of the American population will make a New Year’s Resolution, according to polling by researchers at the University of Scranton. Research suggests that only about 8 percent of people stick with those resolutions and achieve their goals. The outlook is similar for Canadians, 31 percent of whom set New Year’s resolutions. Among those that do, three-quarters will break them, according to a poll from Ipsos. A survey of online shoppers who visited the website FreeDeliveryLand.co.uk revealed that the average length of time a person can expect to pursue their New Year’s resolution is around three and a half weeks, or 24 days.

Some researchers believe that the self-control necessary to help people maintain See RESOLUTION page 3...

Is it a Bird, a Plane... a Meteor?
A meteor is shown streaking across the sky Tuesday, as seen from the Mount Agamenticus webcam in York County. (Mount Agamenticus Conservation Program photo)
YORK COUNTY On Tuesday evening, December 26, a bright streak in the sky, believed to be a meteor, was seen in parts of New England, including southern Maine and New Hampshire. The event was captured at 5:52 p.m. on the Mount Agamenticus Conservation Program webcam on Mount Agamenticus in York County. A meteor is the flash of
light emitted by a small chunk of interplanetary debris, or meteoroid, as it burns up while passing through the Earth’s atmosphere, the American Meteor Society says. A meteoroid that survives its passage through the atmosphere and strikes the ground is a meteorite. The American Meteor Society reported dozens of sightings of Tuesday night’s event.
