Marginal Way Preservation Fund to Hold Dedication and Dinner

OGUNQUIT – The Marginal Way Preservation Fund (MWPF) has a busy week ahead of them. The organization will be holding two events next week, starting with the first of ten bronze donor recognition plaque dedications on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at noon. The installation of the first bronze tablet, inscribed with the names of individuals who love the Marginal Way, will be unveiled near the Geology sign on the gravel cutoff, according

Of the many other highlights of Harvest Fest, a costume parade will take place at 11a.m. Youngsters and their families can participate in the march up Main Street, and once again, The Dunlap Highland Band of York County will accompany the parade. Everyone in costume, young & old alike, is invited to participate. If attendees are looking to satisfy their sweet tooth, they can do so at the Pie Tasting Contest held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and vote for their favorite pie. Duffy’s 3rd annual 5K Race/Walk will also commence at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast to follow at Duffy’s Tavern & Grill. Proceeds will be donated to the Kennebunk Heating Assistance Fund. From 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., fun activities will take place downtown all day, and will include a craft fair, food vendors, and live music throughout the afternoon. Kids can enjoy a scavenger hunt as they locate and name all the scarecrows lining Main Street. They can express their creativity with pumpkin decorating or design their own trick-or-treat bags. To top off the day, everyone can hop aboard a horse-drawn wagon for a hayride around town from noon-3 p.m.

Noble Student Selected to All-National Honor Choir NORTH BERWICK – Autumn Rivas, a junior at Noble High School, has been selected to participate in the AllNational Honor Choir, sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Rivas will join approximately 670 other high school musicians from across the United States for the four day festival in Nashville, Tenn. The NAfME All-National ensembles, consisting of a concert band, jazz ensemble, orchestra, and mixed choir, will perform a concert in the Presidential Ballroom at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel on Oct. 30. “I am looking forward to this amazing opportunity and meeting some of the best singers across the country,” said Rivas. “I am honored to be a part of the 2013 NAfME festival.” Twenty-four singers from Maine, including Rivas, will have the opportunity to sing under conductor Rollo Dilworth in the 350-voice choir. Dilworth is Associate Professor of Choral Music Education at Temple University’s Boyer School of Music and Dance in Philadelphia. He is also a prolific composer, and has written many pieces regularly
