Breast Care Center Honors Girls Basketball Program WELLS In recognition of the unrivaled efforts of Wells Girls’ Basketball Program, York Hospital will dedicate the renovated Wells Breast Care Center, 112 Sanford Road, Building B, Second floor, in their honor on September 12 at 2 p.m. Over ten years, these girls have raised $270,790 for the Hospital’s Breast Cancer and Living Well With Cancer Funds — supporting services such as emergency gas and food cards, nutritional and exercise programs, wigs, head covers and prosthetics, integrative therapies like massage, Reiki and Acupuncture and others that center on the mind, body and well-being of patients.

Guest speaker at the ceremony will be Lani (Boardman) Silversides. Lani lives in York and understands the important role that sports, and basketball in particular, can have in girls’ lives. Her reputation precedes her, as

second all-time leading basketball scorer (male or female) with several York High School records, and the Maine Female Athlete of 2001. Lani followed those achievements as a 2005 graduate and four-year basketball player

at The University of Vermont, one of seven players in their history to score over 1,000 points, grab 500 rebounds and hand out 200 assists. In 2013, she topped off honors on the America East All-Championship squad with induction into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame. A Certified Sports Psychology Coach, with a Master of Science in Teaching from UNH, Silversides currently teaches and coaches at Phillips Academy Andover in the Dept. of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science. Outside of school, Lani started her own business, Mindful Performance, LLC, and works to create resources and program-

ming for young girls to empower and inspire them to play sports and be physically active. After self-publishing a baby book “My Strong is Beautiful in 2015”, she is the author of “A Strong Girls’ Guide to Being” coming this fall. In 2018, after a diagnosis of stagethree breast cancer, Lani made it her mission to help others by writing the daily column, “The Bright Side”. To celebrate this notable occasion, raffle prizes, along with appetizers, desserts and refreshments served by York Hospital’s Dining & Nutrition team, will be offered.
