Mill Field Festival to Feature “Home Town Spirit” NORTH BERWICK “Home Town Spirit” is the theme of this year’s Town of North Berwick Mill Field Festival. The annual event kicks off Saturday, August 17 with a Firehouse Breakfast at the William Hill Fire House at 7 a.m. There will be a parade coming through town starting at 9:30 a.m. Please be advised some of the downtown area roads will be blocked off during this time for the safety of parade members.
The DA Hurd Library is hosting a 5k road race which begins at 8 a.m. and a Library Book and Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Tri-Town Bookmobile will be available at the
Mill Field from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Further information including race signups and route provided at the library website. The Mill Field festivities include activities for all
including a Kids Activity area with bounce houses, Monkey Motion, Rock Wall, Giant Slide, Joust, Obstacle Course, Cotton Candy and Snow Cones. A Roaming Railroad will be traveling around the village and the Northeast Buccaneers pirates will be in attendance with their macaw, Tiki. Archery lessons will be offered and horseshoe pits and shoes available for use throughout the day. There will be a Railroad Train display area with Thomas the Train and
a G-scale train from the 50’s sponsored by the Maine Garden Railway Association. Craft vendors and concessions offered from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Many vendors in attendance including craft and other local merchants and organizations. YORK Since early childhood, York native, Molly Banville (pictured), has bravely battled an unusual form of Inflammatory Bowel Disease complicated by Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. These combined health issues led to years of chronic symptoms and surgeries finally culminating to a small bowel and colon transplant in 2015 performed at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Shortly after her double organ transplant, Molly went into chronic rejection. In need of a transplant for her stomach, pancreas, duodenum and both intestines, Molly has been waiting for more than two years for a miracle. Two weeks ago, Molly
became gravely ill and was hospitalized in Intensive Care. Molly now faces another monumental hurdle, a rare strain of Guillain-Barre Syndrome and seizures. Molly is and has always has been a fighter. She is fiercely working hard to regain strength and feeling throughout her whole body due to severe nerve damage. This effort will take months of therapies, medications and the potential needs of a specialized walker, home renovations and motorized wheelchair. Welcoming The Sub Crew YORK The Town of York is the host city for USS California (SSN 781), currently in dry dock at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. To welcome the crew of this Groton-based, Virginia class submarine, York will be holding a “Welcome Aboard” cook-out on Friday, August 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bog Road Field in York.

Chamber Host 19th Annual Chili-Fest WELLS The Wells Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their 19th Annual Chili-Fest on Saturday, August 24 at the Wells Junior High Campus, Route 1, Wells, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The Maine State Cook-Off, sanctioned by the International Chili Society, is among the last events available for “chiliheads” to qualify to compete in the World Championship which will be held this year on September 6-8 in Des Moines, IA. Entrants for this cook-off have come from as far away as Florida, Nevada, and Illinois. The winner of this event will represent the State of Maine. The cook-off will feature cooks in three categories: Red Chili made with beef and red

ripened chili peppers; Green Chili (verde) made with either chicken or pork and green chili peppers and Homestyle (traditional chili with beans) along with a Youth Homestyle division. Cash prizes and plaques are given to the winners along with bragging rights. The chili cooks will be bringing their chili to be served from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the People’s Choice competition with a $250 first prize. Ballots for People’s Choice are included in the tasting kits available for sale. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wells Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund.
