ME and NH Delegations Urge Summer Fun Includes Navy to Resume Safe and Full-Scale Local Live Music Operations at Shipyard WASHINGTON, D.C. The entire Maine and New Hampshire Congressional Delegations sent a letter to U.S. Navy Secretary Kenneth Braithwaite, inquiring what steps and protocols are in place to safeguard the health and safety of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) workforce as it returns to full strength. “We recognize the important work of our shipyard employees in maintaining the readiness of our fast attack submarine fleet, and we appreciate the communication we have received from shipyard leadership,” the delegations wrote. “However, we urge the Navy to continue to strike the right balance between maximizing the productivity of the workforce while minimizing the risk associated with the COVID-19 health emergency, especially for those at highest risk.” The Maine and New Hampshire delegations included a series of questions that address metrics being used by the Navy, social distance practices that will remain in effect, updates on

Call to Artists for Street Barrier Beautification KITTERY The Town of Kittery invites artists and/or designers to project their imagination and creativity onto the concrete barriers in the Foreside, to transform them into public art. In response to the COVID19 pandemic, the Town of Kittery, in partnership with local stakeholders and the business community, reconfigured segments of its roadway and pedestrian infrastructure to accommodate businesses to extend their operations on town sidewalks. To do so, the Town put concrete barriers into the streets to protect pedestrians and patrons on the new sidewalks. Artists and designers interested in contributing to this public art effort are encouraged to complete the newly launched Street Barrier Beautification

Collins wrote to the Department of Defense to express her concern with an updated policy that reduces the paid administrative leave options available to public shipyard workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
WELLS/ SOUTH BERWICK Music will be in the air this coming week with a variety of bands to entertain summer crowds in the area. On Saturday, August 1, the Wells Harbor Concert Series welcomes the Party Starters Band at 6:30 p.m., with music for all ages - Disco, Country, Soul, and Rock ‘n Roll hits from the 1950’s to today. The concert is free, open to the public with plenty of free parking. It is held at the Hope Hobbs Gazebo in Wells Harbor Park, weather permitting. On Saturday, August 8, the On Tap band will play pop favorites from Beatles to Adele and Neon Trees at the same Hope Hobbs Gazebo from 6:308:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public, weather permitting. Passing of Fire Department’s Longest Serving Member YORK The York Village Fire Department announced the passing of long-time firefighter and past Assistant Chief Charles Balentine. Charles (Chucky), age 87, was a 2nd generation firefighter, joining the York Village Fire Department in 1954 following his father’s footsteps. Chucky was the longest serving member of the York Village Fire Department according to records. Chucky is the father of Fire Chief
