A Young Mother’s Fear and Love of Living In Israel WELLS Several years ago, The Weekly Sentinel published a story about Jamie (Dandreta) Levi, a former Southern Maine and New Hampshire resident, who left the United States to live in Tel Aviv. She has since married and has a young son. What follows is her story as she tells it today, while rockets are being fired by Hamas towards Israeli communities. Over the past week, Israel’s citizens have remained under constant threat of attack. Dozens of these barrages have targeted Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel’s largest city and capital. Here is Jamie’s story as told by her from her Tel Aviv
home where she lives with her Israeli husband and her 17 month old son: “As I write this, any second now I might have to take a 10-minute break to run and find shelter from Hamas’ rockets. I am in Tel Aviv, where we have a whole minute and a half. I am not a politician so I will not get too much into the political situation here. Basically, Hamas is a terrorist organization that wants to kill Israelis and Jews. Hamas in Gaza has been sending thousands of rockets into Israel with the intent to kill. As an attempt to stop the attacks, the Israeli See ISRAEL page 6...

Parade in New York City. They are the only two high school students selected from Maine. “This is a really big deal,” commented Color Guard Instructor Bailey Smith. “These girls are going to represent the Wells-Ogunquit Guard Program, Wells High School, the Town of Wells, and the entire state of Maine.” According to Smith, who nominated both for the selection process, the Macy’s marching band has about 185 musicians
with 40 color guards and dancers from all over the United States. The selection from each state is based upon a state’s population in which Maine is represented each year by only two. Smith indicated that it will be expensive to get Libby and Perron to New York for this event. She estimates that the costs will run about $2000 for each student.
