The general will give a public reading at Memorial Park, right beside Kittery’s Town Hall, of the famous document he signed back in 1776. The event, which starts

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Color Guard and members of both the Daughters and the Children of the American Revolution will be in attendance as well, as Kittery honors both its

historic past and its present. Marsha Gmyrek of Portsmouth’s Moffatt-Ladd House – Whipple’s historic home during the Revolution will offer an introduction of the general. July 4 Fireworks Safety and Local Schedule STATEWIDE – From festive, dazzling sparklers to professionally launched aerial shells, it’s hard not to be impressed by loud, colorful fireworks displays. Although most often seen at professionally staged events and sports stadiums, consumer fireworks are now more available as local and state laws change to allow certain kinds of fireworks within communities. As next week is the Fourth of July, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) wants to remind people everywhere of the potential hazards, injuries, fires and even deaths caused by the misuse of consumer fireworks. Each year more than 16,000 fires are started by fireworks annually and that sparklers account for roughly one quarter of emergency room fireworks injuries. The NFPA is opposed to consumer use of fireworks including sparklers and firecrackers and recommends that July 4 celebrants go
