Paul r. lapierre Named maine’s legionnaire of the Year

BerWICK – Paul R. Lapierre, Berwick’s Citizen of the Year in 2011, was selected by the Department of Maine as the 2013 Legionnaire of the Year from the 176 American Legion posts in the state. This honor represents a first in the 91-year history of Charles S. Hatch Post No. 79, where members recently awarded Lapierre, a 20-year member of the legion, with an Honorary Life Membership earlier this year. In the nomination cover letter, Mark T. One of the goals of the ArtWalk is to offer the public an opportunity to discover Kennebunk’s creative spirit and the eclectic mix of artistic talent of painters, potters, stained glass artists, sculptors and more. At these monthly ArtWalk evening receptions guests can meet the artists, view current exhibits and works in progress, while sampling a variety of refreshments. Art enthusiasts can begin the ArtWalk at any location. Celebrations of New memorial Bridge Begin KITTerY – The Greater York Region Chamber of Commerce and Warren’s Lobster House recently kicked off the first celebration of the completion of the new Memorial Bridge. In attendance were Kittery business owners who had been impacted by the closure, Maine State and local representatives, officials from both NHDOT and MaineDOT, city officials from Kittery and Portsmouth, and stakeholders who served on the Memorial Bridge Public Outreach Advisory Committee. Ben Porter, who has been involved in the Memorial Bridge Project since the very beginning, served as master of ceremonies for the night. Speeches were offered by Jonathan Nass, senior policy adviser for Gov. Paul LePage; MaineDOT Commissioner David Bernhard; Catherine Goodwin, representative for Sen. Susan Collins; Bonita Pothier, representative for Sen. Angus King, and Andrew Colvin, representative for Rep. Chellie Pingree.

A Berwick Public Works employee for 36 years, he is a bona fide hero for having saved the life of a fellow worker, for which he was cited by the Town of Berwick and Board of Selectmen and presented with a written commendation.
