Torch Run Benefits Maine Special Olympics
South Berwick police officers (pictured) are Joshua Hartley, left, Jeff Upton, Lt. Chris Burbank, Brian Moffitt and Phil Moore, running in the rain Tuesday morning in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics of Maine. (Shawn St. Hilaire photo)
STATEWIDE The Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run took place June 6-9. Over 700 members of Maine Law Enforcement participated in the run across the state of Maine, acting as Guardians of the flame carrying the 'Flame of Hope' to raise funds for, and an awareness of Special Olympics Maine. Many towns in Maine are known as having big hearts. Each year, filled with philanthropic
spirit, residents, visitors, businesses and second homeowners donate generously to Maine Special Olympics (SOME). The Law Enforcement Torch Run ran through Ogunquit on June 7, one of the towns on the route, during which members of the Ogunquit Police Association raised money and awareness for this cause. On Tuesday, June 6, South Berwick police officers (pictured) ran with the torch in the rain.
Last year’s Torch Run raised close to $400,000 for Special Olympics Maine and with over a one million dollar annual budget those are much needed funds. For donations or more information on the Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run call Lisa Bird at SOME at 207-8790489 or email lisab@somaine. org. You can also call the Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run Director, Retired Bangor Chief Ron Gastia at 207-735-4023.

of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta, a transatlantic race organized by Sail Training International. The regatta commenced in the UK on April 13, raced to Portugal, and is currently on its way to Bermuda, and then to Boston. In Boston, the European, South American and North American fleets will congregate before sailing en masse to Quebec for Canada’s National 150th Celebration. The festivities kick off with the Grand Parade of Sail, a breathtaking maritime spectacle featuring more than fifty stately ships from around the world. Participating ships include Union from Peru, Europa from the Netherlands, Alexander Von Humboldt II from Germany, El Galeon from Spain, Guayas from Ecuador, Blue Clipper
from the U.K., Bluenose II from Canada, and Esmeralda from Chile. The combined length of tall ships participating in Sail Boston 2017 is 6,238 feet. That is the equivalent of eight Prudential Towers, or the length of the Copley Square to Government Center championship parade route covered by the New England Patriots. The Grand Parade of Sail launches a five day nautical celebration featuring educational, cultural, interactive, and re-enactment events and activities as well as daily free public boarding of the ships in the Seaport and Charlestown. A colorful crew and cadets parade, soccer tournament, crew party, and sunset salutes highlight the landside activities. "We have been working vigorously with the City,

The Wentworth House is located at 47 Water Street in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. “This will be a thrilling and unique experience for visitors, the first visit of French and Native militia to this region in over 300 years, said Nina Maurer, consulting curator for OBHS’s new exhibit, “Forgotten Frontier: Untold Stories of the Piscataqua, which focuses on the adversity and diversity of the Piscataqua region in the 1600s. “We hear stories growing up about relationships, good and bad, between natives and newcomers. This experience—seeing both sides of the story in one day—can help to redefine our view about what truly was happening along these rivers, on the far reaches of settlement, at New England’s beginning. .

~ News ~ Help Shape the Future of Kennebunk’s Lower Village KENNEBUNK The Town of Kennebunk, its Lower Village Committee and Lower Village Master Plan Committee are about to embark on an exciting new process to help shape the future of Lower Village – and want you to be a part of it. “This is an opportunity for the community of Lower Village
to paint a picture of what their future may be, said Kennebunk Economic Development Director Mathew Eddy. “The Lower Village Master Plan process is an opportunity to assemble a diverse group of stakeholders, solicit community input and formulate a vision for Lower Village. The culmination of this process will be a
consortium of stakeholders and a strategy to support the implementation of the master plan, said Chris Osterrieder, Director of Community Development for Kennebunk. This process, planned to be
complete by the end of the year, will strive to address these issues: Improvements to traffic flow and connectivity; Development of community design standards that preserve the character of the area; Refine the streetscapes to be safe, functional and more attractive for those living, working
and visiting the area; Identify features that improve and enhance the experience of Lower Village. To address these issues, there will be numerous opportunities for public input, from See VILLAGE page 10...

Counterfeit Bills in Ogunquit OGUNQUIT The Ogunquit Police has informed businesses that counterfeit bills were detected in Ogunquit this past weekend. This comes as a reminder that, as the season begins, employees should be trained to use counterfeit-detecting pens to check bills, especially those of large denominations.
Should a bill fail the pen test, call the Ogunquit Police and if the person who passed the bill(s) is no longer in your establishment, the police will ask for a description of the person so they can trace the origin of the bill. You can reach the Ogunquit Police at their non-emergency line, 207-646-9362 or by dialing 911 for an emergency.

68% of local jurisdictions in Colorado have banned recreational marijuana businesses
Fellow Wells Residents, We the undersigned, your neighbors and friends, sincerely hope that you will recognize what more than 2/3s of the towns in Colorado have already recognized: The human and economic costs of marijuana commerce far outweigh the highly touted benefits.
WE ASK YOU TO CONSIDER THE FACTS* AND

FACT: 75% of the Town of Wells is zoned for Rural Use which
Wells to tax marijuana-related businesses. In addition, there is no sharing of tax revenues with municipalities in the current state law. But what if Wells were allowed to institute a 2% tax similar to Massachusetts? Based on the experience of Trinidad, Colorado, a town of approximately 8,000, it would take at least 24 marijuana-related businesses to have a net positive impact on Wells revenues. And what would happen to the local businesses displaced by this concentration of single-product retail businesses. By 2016 there were 424 retail marijuana stores in Colorado, more than double the 202 McDonald’s locations in that state.
MYTH: There have been no widely felt negative effects in Colorado since marijuana became legal and retail stores, cultivation facilities, and manufacturers sprung up.
FACT:
Colorado teen marijuana use is up 20%, drug-related suspensions/expulsions have increased 40%, marijuana-related traffic deaths are up 48%, and marijuana-related ER visits and hospital admissions have each gone up over 30%. *Colorado statistics are from Vol.4/September 2016 Report by the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force entitled “The Legalization of Marijuana in Colorado: The Impact” which can be read in full by going to www.RMHIDTA.org and clicking on REPORTS.
includes agricultural uses. If Article 18 limiting Medical Marijuana grow houses to the light industrial district is not passed, there is the potential that these grow houses could be located anywhere in the Rural Use zones of Wells. In other words, marijuana grow houses could move in right next door to a private residence. Not only do these grow houses lower property values (10% for neighbors within a ¼ mile radius), they emit foul, skunk-like odors and can have negative environmental impacts due to the pesticides and fertilizers used in production.
MYTH: Marijuana grow houses, pot shops, and social clubs really aren’t that much different from any other agricultural business or retail establishment. What harm could they do? FACT:
Marijuana grown at these sites and sold in these retail establishments is often diverted out of state or to underage users. Large-scale drug-trafficking organizations have moved into Colorado with the express purpose of diverting marijuana out of state where it demands a higher price. Seizures of Colorado marijuana in the U.S. mail increased 427% since legalization. Also, money generated in these businesses cannot be deposited in a bank, making them prime targets for the criminal element.
People of the Town of Wells, let’s do the right thing. We need to follow the example set by 68% of local jurisdictions in Colorado and prohibit recreational marijuana businesses in the Town of Wells. Please VOTE YES ON ARTICLE 18: Limit medical marijuana growing to the light industrial district Please VOTE YES ON ARTICLE 19: Prohibit all recreational marijuana-related businesses in our town
Wells has neither the manpower nor infrastructure resources to properly supervise these types of businesses. Wells law enforcement and emergency services do not have the capabilities to cope with the inevitable increased demands for their services, while at the same time adequately protecting our children, the residents, and those who come to visit expecting a family friendly and safe environment in the “Friendliest Town in Maine.” Ben Clough Elizabeth Clough John & Nancy Ford Judy Wallingford Joe Leonhard Jeff Ouellette Kay Ouellette Robert Foley Maryanne Foley Brad Jones Robert Ferns Wendy Ferns Donna Pappas Laurie Swanson Bill Piombino Chris Oelschlegel Kathy Oelschlegel Mike Luttrell Martha Luttrell Connie Bemis

~ Ask The Computer Lady ~
Dear Computer Lady, I have a question for you. I now use windows 10 primarily at home on the desktops. I would like to know if it is possible to disable requiring the retyping of the passcode every few minutes! Is really annoying when step away to do a supportive task and have to reopen! This is not a portable or travel machine, so is it really necessary? I can understand when powering up. Seems somewhat overkill to me. I have searched how to stop to no avail. Thanks in advance, Neta Dear Neta,
Sounds like all you need to do is adjust your sign in options, here is how: 1. Click on the start flag and click on the "Settings" icon. It looks like a little gear just above the power icon. 2. In the, "Windows Settings" window, click on, "Accounts". 3. Look in the left hand column for, "Sign in options" and click on it. 4. The very first option should have the heading, "Require sign-in" and under that is a drop down list. Click on the list and click to select, "Never" 5. Close the window. Now, your computer will require a password when you start it up, but not when you wake it from

sleep. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, I have an old Vista desktop! Is there any way to get it up to date so that Chrome can be updated? Or, would it be best to just get rid of it and buy a new desktop? I'm retired and we barely get by on Social Security, but my computer and Kindle are my biggest source of entertainment. Thanks, Linda Dear Linda, While there are ways to get your computer updated, they are going to be either costly or rather technical, so my short answer is that you are probably better off getting a new tower. You could purchase a license for Windows 10 and install it. First, you will have to be sure you have enough hard drive space, RAM and processing power on your computer to run Windows 10. Then, if you are not comfortable installing
it yourself, you will need to pay for not just Windows 10, but also for getting it installed. You could install a free operating system like Linux. This would eliminate the cost of purchasing windows 10, but there would be a learning curve, and if you are not a technical person, you would need to hire a professional to set it up for you and teach you how to use it. Another, slightly less expensive option would be to replace the desktop with a chromebox. This would be a tower that runs the Chrome operating system instead of Windows. This could be a great option for you if you just use your tower for email and the internet. I hope this helps you as you look at your options. TIRED OF WATER CAUSING STAINING, DULL LAUNDRY, BAD ODORS & TASTE?
Dear Rbtm, This isn't the type of question that I normally answer, but I thought this might give me the chance to explain some basic parts of your computer and what they do. The CPU, or Central Processing Unit, in your computer is actually the "brain" of your computer that does all the calculations and processing of your files. Think of it like an adding machine, it does the math, but you have to input the numbers you want processed. The CPU itself does not keep any files. It gets the files that it works with from temporary storage called, RAM. RAM, however does not keep files when the computer is turned off, instead the long term storage on your computer, the hard drive, is where your files are stored. Some people refer to the entire computer, including the hard drive, as a CPU. Your computer can keep thousands, if not millions, of files on the hard drive. The only limit to how many files can be stored on the hard drive is the size of the drive itself. There are thousands of types of files that can be stored on your hard drive, some of them are files that you might recognize like pictures, documents and music. Many more files are types that the computer operating system (usually Windows) needs to run. These are files that you and I will never need to access ourselves, but every time you turn your computer on, they are used in the basic running of the computer. I hope this helps you understand the workings of your computer a little bit more. Elizabeth Interested in learning more? Elizabeth has answered thousands of computer questions over the years. ~ News ~ Wildlife Refuge Expands to York River Region YORK The Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge has now expanded to include one of the state’s most biodiverse wetland habitats, thanks to a new land acquisition made possible by York Land Trust and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The newly-acquired 90-acre parcel on Kingsbury Lane in York connects with 6,300 acres of undeveloped land and is located in close proximity to York Land Trust’s (YLT) Highland Farm Preserve on Route 91. The property originally belonged to the estate of the late Mary McIntire Davis, an 8th generation York resident and avid conservationist who, in 1988, received the Maine Critical Areas Award for fighting against development of this very property that had been in her family for hundreds of years. This is the third land deal YLT has completed with the Davis family, including a 300acre parcel acquired in 2004 that now makes up part of the
McIntire-Highlands Preserve. Given the land trust’s longstanding history and positive relationship with the family, YLT worked to acquire the rights to purchase the land and helped the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) raise $880,000 to finalize the deal in March. Sources of funding include a grant from the North American Wetlands Conservation Act and contributions from Maine Coast Heritage Trust, Kennebunk Savings Bank, USFW, and private individuals. The York River estuary is one of the least disturbed marsh ecosystems within the Gulf of Maine, and may hold greater plant and animal diversity than any other estuary of its size in the Gulf of Maine, according to the Maine Natural Areas Program. Rare plants and animals, including the Saltmarsh Sharptailed Sparrow, find their home in this region. “The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has an outstanding
history of managing land for the benefit of wildlife, says Doreen MacGillis, executive director of YLT. “Because of the sensitive habitats within this area, they will be the ideal owners of the property. The new acquisition will be the first within the York River Division of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, a refuge formed in 1966 and now spans more than 9,000 acres of coastal properties from Kittery to Cape Elizabeth. The property also builds on the mission of the Mt. Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Initiative (MtA2C), working to create a corridor of unfragmented land

The Ogunquit Playhouse production of “Ragtime, on stage August 2 to August 26, is helmed by Director Seth Sklar-Heyn, with Music Director Jeffrey Campos and Choreographer Jesse Robb. This sweeping musical portrait of early twentieth century America tells the story of three families in
pursuit of the American Dream. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together – that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician – united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Together, they confront history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair... and what it means to live in America. Written by the award-winning composer/lyricist team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, Tony Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally, and based on E.L. Doctorow's distinguished novel, Ragtime is the winner of the 1998 Tony Awards for Best Score, Book and Orchestrations, and both the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical and Best Score.

This year campers at Hackma-Camp will produce “Treasurer Island, a musical chosen by camp director Christopher Gempp of Dover because of it is a script that is geared towards letting as many children as possible play leading roles. “We want campers who come to Hackmatack for our four-week theater camp to get on stage and really see what its like to perform, said Gempp. “Not only do they perform on the exact same stage as the pros, but often adult actors will join theatre games during rehearsals. Hack-ma-Camp, now in it’s 38th year, offers children ages 7 to 13 a four-week camp that runs June 26 to July 22. Gempp, an elementary school music teacher, has appeared in Hackmatack shows for the past six summers, including last summer, when he was the King in “Once Upon A Mattress. This year he decided to take on the role of camp director, expanding on his growing interest in directing shows. “Our goal this year is to have each camper grow as a performer, he said “We will be working on acting, singing and dancing. We will grow through theater games as well as workshops. Children with no experience will feel as comfortable as those who have been at the camp for years. Some of the actors appearing on the main stage actually began their theater careers at Hackmatack as campers, Gempp said. He only recently added directing to his theater experiences,
directing “Little Mermaid Jr., and “9 to 5 at Garrison Players, where he is on the board of directors and director of Youth Education. Gempp has run the summer camp at Garrison Players for four summers, and will continue int this role as well this summer. In addition to his role in “Once Upon A Mattress Gempp was in the ensemble of “Les Mis, “Hairspray, “Spamalot, and “Music Man, all at Hackmatack. This summer he will be a father in Hackmatack’s 45th anniversary production of “The Fantasticks.
Rob Finch of Dover will be return for his second year as the camp’s musical director. Finch, who will be in his second summer as music director at Hackmatack, has 10 years of experience teaching and directing music at middle and high schools. . “I am passionate about teaching kids to sing, said Finch, who has presented at the Maine Music Educators Allstate Conference on the male changing voice. This version of “Treasure Island is also defined by music that is based on sea shanties, Gempp added.

“I’m excited to work with Hack-ma-camp this summer and help the kids grow and become more confident as actors. I’ve seen many previous performances by campers and I’m excited to take the torch and keep it going. The camp runs 9 am to
noon, Monday though Friday and the final performances of “Treasure Island will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 21 and 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22. For more information, call 207-698-1807 or visit www.hackmatack.org. Space is limited.

“Power of Place Outdoor Exhibition Opens at Wells Reserve WELLS A rabbit in the garden, an angel in a tree, and a stone spire piercing the sky are among the eye-catching sculptures on display now through mid October at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm. The outdoor exhibition and sale, dubbed “Power of Place, is expected to feature more than 40 sculptures by 28 New England artists. Acclaimed Maine art curator June LaCombe is installing the show, positioning pieces across the historic campus and along the reserve’s most popular
walking trail. “Sculpture invites us to more fully engage with our environment, LaCombe explained. “It helps focus our attention on nature’s materials and forms. As we interact with sculpture, our senses are heightened and we become more acutely aware of the intricate beauty of place. The sculpture show is part of the Wells Reserve’s Summer of Art & Science. “This is a show about the power, fragility, and beauty of art, but also the Wells Reserve,

“Say Darlingâ€? Featured at The Dance Hall KITTERY “Say Darlingâ€?(formerly Woodsmith and Hersch) will be featured at the inaugural Foreside Music Festival in a concert on Friday, June 16 at 8 p.m. at The Dance Hall in Kittery. It was only a matter of time for a project like “Say Darlingâ€? to come together‌a band of old friends and road warriors from the New England Roots Rock and Americana scene. Grammy Nominated singer and songwriter Celia Woodsmith– of the acclaimed bluegrass band ‘Della Mae’ – and crtically lauded guitarist Chris Hersch of the Alt. Country Rock band ‘Girls Guns & Glory’ – took the opportunity to form the band they always wanted when both tenures with these international touring acts came to a close. Country, R&B and Blues may be the backbone of the band, but make no mistake, ‘Woodsmith & Hersch’ rock out. Powered by Woodsmith’s straightfrom-the-depths vocalizing and Hersch’s finger-flying fretwork (and fortified by vintage Hammond organ tones and rhythmready drums) this gutsy ensemble embraces its roots yet keeps its feet firmly in the here-and-now. Blending distinctive original songs with classic tunes that pay homage to a shared musical heritage, ‘Woodsmith & Hersch’ evoke the funky drive of Little Feat, the moving vocals of Bonnie Raitt and the instrumental prowess of the Tedeschi-Trucks Band while maintaining a firm identity of its own. Health & Fitness York Hospital Announces Winners in 5K Race YORK If you found yourself driving through York Village last Saturday morning, as over 800 runners made their way up York Street, over the Wiggly Bridge and back toward the Hospital Campus, you didn’t witness “just another road race to kick off the summer season. You were part of a true community event! In addition to a host of volunteers and supporters, York Hospital’s annual 5K Road & Cross Country Race to benefit Cancer Care, attracted kids with energy to spare, women in tutus, Cancer Survivors dressed brightly with attitudes to match, dogs in the mix, strollers
with undaunted parents, and unforgettably – a second grade child battling cancer with a contingent of uniformed police officers running behind her, who surely “had her back. After the race and the cheering, yet tear-filled crowd, Molly Harmon’s parents Brian and Tricia Harmon offered, “So many memories we will never forget. Watching Molly and her friends smiling as they marched across the Wiggly Bridge, hearing Molly’s name chanted as she approached the finish line. In such a chaotic world, it was awesome to see so many people rally around our little 8 year old girl. “We’re thrilled that each year our 5K fun continues to
evolve. But what seems to stay the same is that our event brings a smile to folks of all ages, abilities and circumstances. This year we had our steadfast and evergrowing team of Mr. Johnston’s Joggers, from York’s Coastal See RACE page 19...

over. She is already spayed, vaccinations are current, has passed her wellness exam and is so ready for that new home. She will do well with adults, older children, respectful smaller dogs (big dogs will take some getting use to) and relaxed easy going house cats. Beth has never been an outside kitty and is ill equipped to survive in an outside, so we are looking specifically for an indoor only home for her and the littermates. Beth and her brother and sister will be interviewing for new parents this Saturday, June 10, at the Sanford Adoption Center. former proprietor of the Cape Neddick Inn:
As you must all know by now, I have retired from the restaurant business and have sold my cherished Cape Neddick Inn. It has been a bittersweet parting, however, at 76 young it is time for my next adventure and perhaps another career — certainly not total retirement.
Beautiful Views of Wells Harbor
I wish to especially thank Chef Matt and my entire staff, some of whom had been with me for the entire time; and, without whom, I could not have brought the Inn back to its present character and charm. Needless-to-say it has been my labor of love, yet, I want to thank those who so willing journeyed with me along the way. A special thanks as well to all of the local Maine purveyors who rendered us such great service for these years — your professionalism and dedication to the job contributed to the Inn’s success! And most importantly a heartfelt gratitude to the hundreds and hundreds of patrons who have supported the Cape Neddick Inn — thank you for your loyalty and friendship. You have all, staff and patrons alike, become my family and I will truly miss seeing you so frequently.

Locals Attend Hearing, Greeted by Senator Ron Collins
York HS Competes in National Ocean Sciences Bowl YORK A team from York High School recently competed at the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) Finals. Although they didn't qualify to continue forward, they demonstrated that they were high-quality competitors. This year’s theme was Blue Energy: Powering the Planet With Our Ocean, based on the
use of marine renewable energy (generated from the continuous movement of surface winds, tides, and currents, as well as differences in salinity and temperature), reducing greenhouse gas emissions, keeping our ocean healthy and productive as it helps meet the world’s growing energy demand. To qualify for Finals, the 25 competing teams first had to win
their regional competitions. In total, approximately 392 teams (made up of 1,960 students representing 33 states) participated, adding to the more than 30,000 students who have passed through the ocean sciences competition over the last 20 years. A full list of the 2017 NOSB Finals participants are available at: http://nosb. org/

Ward Feurt, manager of the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge and MtA2C partner, emphasizes the important bridge this acquisition creates between land to the north and those to the south along the ecologically rich York River. He is excited to see
the refuge expand in this important way, and to be working so closely with YLT. YLT is a partner carrying out the Mt. Agamenticus to the Sea Conservation Initiative (MtA2C, www.mta2c.org ), that is working toward a long-term goal of connecting 19,000 acres of conserved land in the region.

Obituaries
Edward M. Boston, 81 WELLS – Edward M. Boston Sr, 81, of Wells, died Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Kennebunk Nursing Center following a period of failing health. Ed was born October 18, 1935 in York, the son of Ralph Henry and Esther Hutchins Boston, and attended Wells Schools, eventually earning his GED in Wells. He was a self-employed house painter, who took on many side jobs over the years. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing for stripers, Mousam Lake, gardening, and loved his many cats, dogs and horses. Tracing his roots to the founding members of Wells in
the 1640’s, Ed took great pride in seeing his ancestor’s names listed on the plaque in Founders Park, and loved his hometown and its longtime residents. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sarah Guyette Boston, sons Ralph and his wife Diane of Springvale, Edward “Woody Jr and Tyler and his wife Renee, a daughter Delta Boston, all of North Berwick, a sister Victoria “Queenie Sayward of Sanford, four grandchildren, Aubreyanna, Lindsey, Tanner and Jaden, and several great grandchildren. Visitation hours were on June 6 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, ME followed by a funeral service with Rev. Charity Omartian officiating. Donations may be made to the Animal Welfare Society, PO Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME. 04094.
Celebration of Life Honors Neil Rolde YORK – Neil Rolde, historian, author, statesman, philanthropist, and environmentalist, of York, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017, peacefully with his loving family by his side. He was 85 years old.
A celebration of Neil’s life will be held on Sunday, June 11 from 3-7 p.m. at The Union Bluff Meeting House, 4 Beach St, York Beach. Neil was such a positive influence that a party seemed just right to celebrate his well-lived life. Cocktails, hors d’oevres, music, and lots of good friends will gather. Bring a story or a memory to share if you like. Many thanks to Neil’s family for hosting this gathering. Neil always told them he wanted a party for his friends to enjoy after he passed away.
Teacher Award in 1999 to recognize classroom teachers for promoting citizenship education. Marro has been the music teacher at the Great Works School since September 2003. Marro works hard to help her students make a connection with their community. In Marro’s nomination letter, written by Jerry Burnell, Principal of Marshwood Great Works School, he notes that Marrow has organized the Veteran’s Assembly at the school for the past eight years. The Veterans are humbled by the attention and many have spoken to me with tears in their eyes of how much they appreciate our support. In looking at the VFW criteria, Marro is exactly what you are looking for in a teacher. She
makes positive differences in the lives of her students and communities. The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. is the nation’s largest and oldest major war veterans organization. Founded in 1899 and chartered by Congress in 1936, the VFW is comprised entirely of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, Guard and Reserve forces. With nearly 1.7 million VFW and Auxiliary members located in more than 6,500 posts worldwide, the nonprofit veterans’ service organization is proud to proclaim “No One Does More For Veterans than the VFW, which is dedicated to veterans’ service, legislative advocacy, and military and community service programs. sonal goal of making over 100 wins each. They are most thrilled with the State Championship title and winning as a team. With assistance of Youth Coaches, Jr High Coaches and WHS Coaches, these boys learned a lot about discipline, commitment and never giving up, like a true Warrior. For Chase and Cummings to be a part of two Wells High School Championship teams their senior year (Class C Football and Class B Wrestling) is something to be very proud of. Caleb Chase will be attending Husson University for Business Management and Cullen Cummings will be attending YCCC for Law Enforcement.
