Cote Lands Feature Role in New Denzel Washington Thriller

Rhys Olivia Cote, 8, of Wells, has a featured role in ‘Equalizer 2,’ the new Denzel Washington thriller slated for release on July 20. She spent several days in Boston late last fall filming her scenes with Washington and the cast.

By Nancye Tuttle, Staff Writer WELLS Rhys Olivia Cote is ready for her big screen close-up. In fact, she’s already had a couple in “Equalizer 2,” the new Denzel Washington thriller slated for a July 20 nationwide release. The friendly 8-year-old from Wells is featured as the young girl, Anna, in the fastpaced film, directed by Antoine Fuqua and also featuring Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo. “It was super cool and great to do my first movie with such a famous actor,” she said early this week, taking a break from

playing to talk. “I like modeling but doing the movie was a lot cooler.” The young model-turnedactress is already giving folks a glimpse of her talents, since she has two quick shots in the movie’s trailer — one as a wide-eyed girl lying on a bed and the other showing her hugging a woman. Filming took place over several days last fall in Boston, said Tina Cote, Rhys’ mom, who was with her on set. “From the writer to the director to Denzel Washington, everyone was so kind,” said Tina Cote. “Denzel was so nice and

everything I had read about him is true. He kept telling Rhys that he was auditioning for her movie. Then his long-time assistant told me that Rhys has something special and shines from the inside out. It was wonderful,” said Tina, whose husband and Rhys’ dad Jeff is a local physician. The affable Rhys, a lifelong Wells resident and third grader at St. James School in Biddeford, has been a print and TV model since pre-school and has made folks smile since she was born, said Tina.
