Authentically Irish Annie

By Maura Curley Special to The Weekly Sentinel OGUNQUIT On March 17, everybody claims to be a wee bit Irish. But meet Annie Lynch, and you’ll know the real McCoy. Her beautiful brogue will have you begging for some stories from her native country, not just on St. Paddy’s Day, but anytime of the year. Lynch, who was reared in Muroe County Limerick, has a master’s degree in education, has taught in the classroom, worked in information technology, and is passionate about nutrition and homeopathic medicine. All this has naturally prepared her to do what’s in her blood- run an Irish
pub. Annie’s family owned a pub in Limerick, which has now been passed down three generations to her nephew. She started working there when she was eight years old “as soon as I was big enough to pull a pint” Annie now runs Annie’s Irish Pub in Ogunquit, which is opening Friday, March 14 through Monday March 17 and then on subsequent weekends until warmer weather finally arrives. While this is the second season for Annie’s Pub, Lynch is no stranger to the hospitality business. She previously owned another pub in Galway, before moving to Maine five years ago
and running The Wayfarer in Cape Porpoise. Annie’s in Ogunquit might just be the sum of Lynch’s previous establishments, and most evocative of her roots. I met Annie at her pub last weekend, after a colleague suggested I write about Irish myths for the upcoming holiday. Annie’s seemed like the perfect place for a little Gaelic education. I arrived a day early for our chat, amidst a cyclone of pre-opening cleaning with rags, buckets, hardware and furniture strewn about. Less than 24 hours later, I stepped into a spotless space; a picture perfect See LYNCH page 35...

Their collections were featured in publications such as “House Beautiful” and “Country Living.” Mary Emmerling and other authors have included images of their collections of tramp art, majolica, and art pottery in their reference books. Latin dancing will be a highlight of the Caribbean Dance Party, featuring a range of Latin and reggae tunes.
Event to Help Neighbors A World Away SOUTH BERWICK Most of the 200 people who show up each year at the Caribbean Nights Dance Party really just want to dance to the contagious Latin and reggae tunes of Combo Sabroso, a band that comes up each year from Boston. But for five years, guests at the annual event have played a central role in paying teachers, buying uniforms and in general educating children at the Eben Ezer School in the rural town of Milot, Haiti. “We love playing this gig because people who come are ready for an awesome dance party, but also because we

The fifth annual Caribbean Night Dance Party will be 7p.m. Saturday March 22 at the VFW in Portsmouth.
