Community Rallies to Help Fire Victims in Berwick

BERWICK In response to the devastating fire that took the life of Berwick Fire & Rescue Captain Joel Barnes, injured four other firefighters and left residents homeless, members of the community and businesses are stepping up to help those in need. Corner Point Brewing Company, 1 Sullivan St., in Berwick started a “fill the boot” donation drive and has already collected over $2,000 to be donated to the Berwick Fire Station. Special stickers have also been created and are available for

$3 at Corner Point Brewing Company. Purchasers will be entered into a drawing for a special gift. Donations over $5 will get two entries, $10 or over will get three entries, $15 and over with get four and so on! All donations go to “fill the boot” at Corner Point. A group of local residents collected donations of toiletries and clothing including new socks, underwear, and gift cards. All donations were collected and sorted at the Community Closet located at the Berwick United Methodist Church. The community closet also accepted donations all day

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday exclusively for the victims of the fire. Clothing for the victims can be obtained through the Community Closet on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. or by appointment by calling the church at 207-698-1065. Aroma Joes in North Berwick collected donations for two teenagers displaced by the fire and offered a discount on purchases to anyone who donated. Pamela Parks of North Berwick collected donations on behalf of another family dis-

placed by the fire. Extra toiletries were donated to the House of Hope Mission and to the Berwick / Somersworth Food Pantry. JC Penny’s in Rochester also donated gift cards. The Berwick Winter Farmers’ Market will be having a food drive for the victims of the fire this Sunday, March 10 and Sunday, April 14. costumes. The performance will consist of both the fluid soft shoe style as well as the rhythmic hard shoe popularized by shows such as Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. At the end of the performance, the dancers will invite children and the young at heart to join them onstage to learn or try out some steps. A reception with refreshments will conclude the evening. The Stillson School of Irish Dance/Performance Team is under the direction of Carlene Moran Stillson. In existence for twenty-five years, the school is

the only certified school of Irish dancing in the state of Maine. The school’s dancers compete all over New England and place in the New England Regional Irish Dancing Championships annually. In addition to the dance performance, Carlene Stillson will tell about the history of the dance and explain the reasons for the design of the many different costumes worn by the dancers. Waban Prepares for Annual Telethon YORK COUNTY March 16 marks Waban’s 48th annual Telethon to raise funds for children with autism, intellectual/developmental and other disabilities. Telethon funds raised will benefit the new state-of-the-art Autism Therapy Wing at the Fraser Ford Child Development Center in Sanford, which brings together teachers, case workers, clinical support and staff dedicated to children who need specialized programs and services. The Telethon brings the community together at the St.

Ignatius Gym at 25 Riverside Avenue in Sanford. Doors open at 10 a.m. for a full day of family entertainment, delicious food, exciting raffles, gift baskets and activities for the whole family.

Throughout the day, participants can choose from a wide selection of goods that includes merchandise and other donations from local vendors. Items include furniture from Central

Furniture, a stand-up paddle board from Kittery Trading Post, various sports memorabilia and tickets, as well as gift certificates for travel and restaurants, an Apple Watch and Amazon’s Alexa.
