York Middle School XC Skier Takes First Place YORK On Saturday February 15, the Agamenticus Ski Club (ASC) York Middle School Ski Team – competed against 10 teams in Maine CCC MS Championship races at Starks Hill, Fryeburg. The Championship races included a 3.2 KM Skate Ski Race and a 3.2 KM Classic Ski Race on the same day. The courses included a flat section out of the start/finish with a steep climb followed by a descent and one additional climb/descent. Considering that the team has been challenged locally with a lack of snow and training on roller skis, dry land running and weekend on-snow sessions – they finished strong and made history with local eighth grader – Sam Hunter sweeping the Skate and Classic race in first place!

Hunter swept both races finishing in first place with a time of 10:05 in the skate race and 12:09 in the classic race. It was both the first time in the CCC Championship and ASC York Middle School Ski team’s history that a York MS Nordic Skier finished in first place in both events. Additional York MS racers that competed in the Saturday championship events included: In the boys skate races: Charles Newton finishing with a time of 14:32 in the skate, Callan Eves finishing with a time of 15:13, Kelton Bryant with a time of 21:43, Logan Schrimper with a time of 22:27 and Jameson Moore with a time of 23:50. What is a Census and Why is it Important? NATIONWIDE Once a decade, America comes together to count every resident in the United States, creating national awareness of the importance of the census and its valuable statistics. The decennial census was first taken in 1790, as mandated by the Constitution. It counts our population and households, providing the basis for reapportioning congressional seats, redistricting, and distributing more than $675 billion in federal funds annually to support states, counties and communities’ vital programs — impacting housing, education, transportation, employment, health care and public policy.

Downeaster has set new records for both ridership and ticket revenue. It is an economic engine for Maine, providing good jobs, supporting Maine vendors of goods and services, and strengthening our tourism industry,” said Senator Collins. “With this funding, the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority will be able to make important improvements to this rail line in southern and midcoast Maine, increasing the corridor’s capacity and improving safety, efficiency, and reliability for the hundreds of thousands of passengers who use this service each year.” Through this project,

NNEPRA will construct a sixmile extension of an existing two-mile passing siding on the Pan Am Railway’s Freight Main Line in Wells, along with a new passenger platform and pedestrian bridge at the Wells Transportation Center (Wells Station). The improvements will provide needed capacity to meet projected increased passenger demand, freight demand, reduce interference delays between freight and passenger trains, and allow the addition of a sixth round trip each day between Brunswick and Wells.
