Local Opioid Consortium Invites Public to Learn About Recovery Program
Kennebunk Chief of Police, Robert MacKenzie, has been involved with the Rural York County Opioid Consortium’s efforts since summer of 2018 to provide a law enforcement perspective and help identify gaps in areas where information can and should be provided.
YORK COUNTY The Rural York County Opioid Consortium has made significant strides towards their goal of assessing and planning for the improvement of opioid prevention, treatment and recovery in York County. Treatment and Recovery Services: Southern Maine Healthcare (SMHC) offers treatment and recovery services at several locations. These practices are now working with clinicians at the Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH) Biddeford and Springvale Integrated Medication Assisted Treatment (IMAT) programs, to provide
comprehensive, integrated care that addresses both substance use and routine healthcare needs. SMHC is also piloting a rapid access model of care for patients who come to the Biddeford or Sanford emergency departments with opioid use disorder related conditions. These patients will be screened and those who qualify can initiate medication assisted treatment immediately. Partnering with Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH), these patients will be started on suboxone in the emergency department and then referred to MBH’s Biddeford or Springvale IMAT programs
where they will receive continued, individualized care that best meets their needs and supports ongoing recovery efforts. York Hospital’s Recovery Center’s “Phase Program” with Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) provides an intensive outpatient program for treatment of all substance use disorders. Phase I and Phase II are programs that together provide professional support for 6 months of the recovery process. Nasson Health Care is providing outpatient MAT programs integrating See OPIOID page 15...

Spencer. “From the earliest days of the American Revolution to every conflict since, the citizens
of Maine have been an important part of the Navy and Marine Corps team. I am pleased that a
future ship will carry on that tradition of service by bearing the name and history of their great capital city.” The future USS Augusta will be built by Austal USA in Mobile, AL.
