WELLS Clearly the Wells Lady Warriors had never heard of the old adage “calm before the storm.” On Saturday, January 19, prior to the arrival of Sunday’s snow and sleet, at their 10th annual “Shootin’ for a Cure” (SFAC), the team never sat still, doing everything within their power and four gym walls, to raise money for York Hospital’s Living Well With Cancer Fund! After which, they presented

York Hospital with a check for $18,590, bringing the event’s ten year total to $270,790! Coach Don Abbott, smiling and proudly dressed in his patented pink sweater said, “In 10 years, we have had over 700 kids participate in Shootin’ for a Cure. This community has answered the call time and again, supporting our players as they strived to help as many people as possible. Our committee is so grateful to all those who have given so self-

lessly over the years to help make this endeavor a success.” This event that Coach Abbott spearheaded, with the SFAC Committee (all remaining together for ten years!), began with a free throw shoot out, involving 81 girls in grades 5-12, who raised money through pledges, and culminated in an exciting game versus Gray-New Gloucester. ment. She also founded the York County Elder Abuse Task Force in 2005 when she recognized that a multidisciplinary approach was needed to address the epidemic of scams. Officer Simeoni, who was invited to testify by Senator Collins, has worked on an astonishing 77 elder justice cases in the past year alone ranging from the loss of hundreds of dollars to entire estates. Three of her cases have been referred to the local district attorney. “Over my law enforcement

career, I’ve had the opportunity to complete extensive training in the field of elder abuse,” said Officer Simeoni. “I’m proud to have been part of numerous advances in combating elder abuse over the past 15 years. I have a true passion for being the voice of our vulnerable populations, primarily our elderly and those with disabilities.” “Officer Simeoni has been a leader in fighting fraud against Maine seniors, working on nearly 80 elder justice cases in the past year alone,” said Sena-

tor Collins. “I am so proud of her exceptional efforts to help seniors who have been scammed as well as educate older Ameri-
