fter more than a quarter of a century on Penrith Council, Councillor Greg Davies is calling it a day.

The East Ward representative will finish up next month and will not contest the December 4 Council elections.

Cr Davies, who served three terms each as Mayor and Deputy Mayor during his long tenure, said it was a desire to create more local jobs that first made him run for local government in 1995.

Unsurprisingly, he lists one of his greatest achievements as helping negotiate the development of the Erskine Business Park.

“Within six months, we had Stramit Building Products down there and now look at it, it’s great,” he said.

“It went from nothing to that, and that was because I had the ability to talk to people.”

He also helped deliver environmentallyfriendly changes to the City’s waste services to include recycling and compost bins.

“There was no better person to stand beside you when he was really arguing a point and he was passionate about something.”

Mayor Karen McKeown said Penrith “was the better for having had his service”.

“Greg always thinks outside the box and he’s always got a final question... he’s a very critical thinker,” she said.

“I think the City has really benefited from his experience and expertise.”

The Labor stalwart said he never wanted to be a “seat warmer” and encouraged the newly-elected Councillors to “get involved”.

“If you’re going to take the time and put the effort in – and it takes up a hell of a lot of your time if you’re fair dinkum – don’t waste opportunities,” Cr Davies said.

“You’ve got to take the opportunities that come up and try and drive the Council in the direction that’s good for the area.

“I’m a firm believer it’s not much good harping from the sidelines, get involved.”

We still need loud media voices

L

ong-time readers of this column would know that I have mixed views on broadcaster Alan Jones.

There’s been times when I’ve written glowing tributes, others when I’ve labelled his commentary dangerous, particularly when it comes to the pandemic.

But I was interested last week to see the reaction to his sudden departure from Sky News, the network he landed on after he parted ways from 2GB, where he ruled the radio airwaves for years.

Twitter was awash with celebration, almost as if a dictator had been removed from power.

It was the best evidence you could ask for that social media isn’t real life – because we know, and have known for decades, that Alan Jones has a significant following, perhaps greater than any other media personality in this country over the last quarter century.

Those who follow him largely aren’t on Twitter desperately trying to curate a clever Tweet to celebrate the downfall of someone far more successful than them.

By comparison to his halcyon days on radio, Jones had a relatively small audience on Sky News. He largely preached to the converted in that whole ‘Sky News After Dark’ world, and certainly didn’t wield the power he once did when in charge of the most successful breakfast show in Sydney radio history.

But still, even in his departure, Jones was getting to people.

I’ve long believed that those most critical of Jones rarely listened to his program. They heard snippets of something controversial he said, solidified the opinion they’d formed based on previ-

ous snippets, and carried on with their disdain.

But amongst the three and a half hours spent on air each morning for all those years, Jones did make a difference for the good. He legitimately helped people, led campaigns for significant positive change and held politicians to account.

Too often, however, he played the man, or woman, rather than the ball. He got in trouble most when he went too personal, and it ultimately stained his career.

But I wonder, in a world where not even Sky News can find a spot for someone like Alan Jones, where voices like his will be heard in the future.

Some would say good riddance, and that’s all good – perhaps Alan Jones’ time has indeed come.

But we still need passionate fighters.

I wonder these days, however, where those passionate commentators will come from.

The media landscape is such now that if you cross that line of what social media in particular thinks is unacceptable, you’re liable to be cancelled or put out to pasture. Who would put their hand up for that kind of life?

Opinion is now no longer an acceptable defence of an argument – if someone has the opposite view, you’re wrong and you deserve to be told about it as loudly and via as many mediums as possible.

We are doing our best to curtail the free speech we so vigorously defend.

I’m a long-time talkback radio listener.

It is largely misunderstood, again by those who never listen but are happy to condemn. But there is no doubt that even that medium is falling victim to not wanting to be too controversial, walking the fine line of aggrieving a sponsor, or getting the Twitter narks upset.

I’ve written a few columns in this very paper recently that have also caused some to be unhappy – a couple even called for me to be sacked, as is their right. But they would not demand such action had I been equally as vigorous in defence of their side of the argument.

You see those who scream ‘bias’ are most often the very definition of the word.

I’m not about defending Alan Jones.

He went way off the reservation during COVID-19 and Sky News is probably right to say goodbye.

But of course we need people who will say it like it is.

We need passionate commentators with passionate opinions who ruffle feathers and, often as a result, get things done.

We have to decide if we want to embrace that, or if we would prefer the vanilla approach.

Independents to top ballot paper at poll T

he all-important ballot draws for next month’s Penrith Council elections have taken place.

Three draws were undertaken by Returning Officer Peter Herrmann last week to determine the ballot order for candidates in each of Council’s three wards – North, South and East.

The majority of lead candidates were in attendance to witness the event, which took place exactly a month out from the December 4 elections, where five Councillors will be chosen to represent each ward for the next three years.

In a win for Independents, each ballot paper will feature Independent groups in the first two columns, with candidates and parties in ‘pole positions’ historically able to snag extra votes from apathetic voters.

The North Ward draw saw Independent candidate Tyler Wheatley pulled out first, nabbing the

coveted ‘Group A’ position. Independent Councillor Kevin Crameri secured ‘Group B’, Labor Councillor John Thain ‘Group C’, while Independent Councillor Marcus Cornish and Liberal Councillor Ross Fowler walked away with ‘Group D’ and ‘Group E’ positions respectively.

In the hotly-contested East Ward, Independent nominees again scored top spots, with Sascha Vukmirica and Melanie Holdsworth drawn out first and second, earning them ‘Group A’ and ‘Group B’ places respectively. ‘Group C’ position went to Australia First Party’s Lili Orrock, while Labor Councillor Todd Carney secured ‘Group D’. Independent candidate Marlene Shipley and Liberal Deputy Mayor Tricia Hitchen will bring up the rear on the East Ward ballot paper, occupying ‘Group E’ and ‘Group F’.

For South Ward, Independent Councillor Jim Aitken and Independent candidate Susan Day were drawn first and second, followed

by Liberal Councillor Mark Davies

in third spot. Labor Mayor Karen McKeown was drawn out fourth, earning the ‘Group D’ position, while Independent candidate Abigail Nash, who is running alone, was pulled out last.

The leading candidates, who occupy number one spot on their group ticket, are running with four other nominees, with voters able to vote either above the line or indicate their preferences for certain candidates below the line.

You expect plenty of activity from Council candidates over the next month, though some are set to remain surprisingly quiet.

Voters will not get the chance to find out what Mr Wheatley stands for in North Ward, with the former Cambridge Park High School student the only lead candidate to shun publicity.

Mr Wheatley, who is running on a ticket with his four brothers, declined the Weekender’s request for media coverage, saying he had a “very busy schedule” and was “not interested in being in the press or having an article”.

Push for Penrith to consider its own ‘South Bank’ at Lakes ALENA HIGGINS

P

enrith could be home to a South Bank-style water and lifestyle destination if one Councillor has his way.

Councillor John Thain has requested Council officers ascertain the annual running and maintenance costs of Brisbane Council’s South Bank, saying the Lakes is the perfect spot to recreate a similar oasis using the existing beaches on site.

“If we had something like South Bank, you could really turn on something special and you’d have some commercial restaurants, cafes, ice-cream places, that kind of thing and then a massive water feature that the community can enjoy,” he said.

Re-developed after the 1988 World Expo, South Bank is a mecca for events and is home to world-class eateries, picturesque river views and free aqua pools open all year round.

Cr Thain believes the State Government, which owns the Lakes, has “got it wrong” by proposing a private golf course for the site.

“That’s one of the things I am determined to campaign on now, because I just think the Planning Department’s got it wrong,” he said.

“They’ve just sort of ignored the spirit of what the original intention was for the Lakes.”

Cr Thain contends a South Bank destination would be much better utilised, especially given Penrith’s scorching summers.

“Who wants to play golf on 40 degree

days when you’ve actually got somewhere you can splash?” he said.

“I’ve got nothing against golfers, if that’s their thing and they want to do that, great, but I think they are catered for in this area.”

If the numbers stack up, Cr Thain will ask for it to form part of the strategic plan in the next Council if he is re-elected.

Cr Thain said his vision was not out of the realms of possibility.

A Penrith Council spokesperson said the Lakes site presents a “significant opportunity” for the city, and that the local community must be engaged with.

“Council and the community’s expectation over the past 20 years has been that the Penrith Lakes will create a diverse open space parkland, including waterway facilities around the lakes, with pedestrian and cycle links from Penrith,” the spokesperson said.

Vaccine is key defence New figures confirm unvaccinated are most at risk of contracting COVID-19 TROY DODDS

T

he evidence is in: Fully vaccinated people are less likely to become infected with COVID-19 and 16 times less likely to end up in Intensive Care (ICU) or die if they do contract the virus during a major outbreak.

The figures, contained in the latest NSW Health In Focus report, leave anti-vaxxers with embarrassingly few excuses to have not rolled up their sleeve to get the jab – for both themselves and society.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said the latest figures show hospitalisations, ICU admissions and deaths were all far lower among the fully vaccinated population during the Delta outbreak’s peak.

“The COVID-19 Delta outbreak has been the biggest challenge the state has faced during the pandemic because of its transmissibility. However, this report shows vaccination has been key in protecting ourselves, our families, and the community from the harmful effects of the virus,” she said.

ing the virus from June 16 to October 7, only 11 per cent (47 people) had received two doses of a vaccine. Of these 47 people, their average age was 82. 29 people were residents of aged care facilities and the other 18 people had significant underlying health issues.

Dr Chant said ICU admissions and deaths peaked from September 8 to 21 during the outbreak, with unvaccinated individuals more than 16 times more likely to end up in ICU or die during this period.

“COVID-19 cases peaked from August 25 to September 7, with the rate among fully vaccinated people at 49.5 per 100,000, while in unvaccinated people it was 561 per 100,000, a more than 10-fold difference,” she said.

“Notably, young people with two doses of a vaccine experienced lower rates of infection and almost no serious disease, while those unvaccinated in this age group were at greater risk of developing COVID-19 and needing hospitalisation.”

The latest vaccination figures released on Monday show that 92.1 per cent of the eligible population in the Penrith LGA is now double dosed against COVID. More than 95 per cent have had their first dose.

he wet weather made for an easy sod turn to signal the start of work on the new Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) for Construction at TAFE NSW Kingswood on Monday.

The NSW Government has invested $80 million into the facility to create future jobs and help skill workers to complete infrastructure projects across western Sydney.

Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education, Geoff Lee was joined onsite with Penrith MP Stuart Ayres and Mulgoa MP Tanya Davies where the hub, that will train 700 trade students each year, will be built.

“Western Sydney is an area where we see significant growth in residential homes and commercial work,” Mr Lee said.

“We are catering for those students who want to be up-to-date and have the latest state-of-the-art practices, as well as looking at building communities of the future.”

Mr Ayres said the institute, which is set to open in 2023, was a result of findings from a review on education and training conducted by Peter Shergold and David Gonski.

“It is a new model of teaching and education that brings universities, vocational training and industry much closer together, which is what industry has been calling for,” he said.

“We want to make sure we give young people across western Sydney a real opportunity to start a career off the

major construction works we are leading alongside the Commonwealth Government.”

Managing Director of ADCO Constructions, Neil Harding, said it was an honour for the Australian-owned company to be selected for the construction tender.

“We have built 35 TAFEs over the years and this is truly a stand out. There is a real sense of excellence and this is a great step forward,” Mr Harding said.

“The construction will see the creation of around 250 local jobs from the project and we look forward to recruiting graduates from this facility over the coming years.”

Mr Ayres told the Weekender that the government will try to fast-track students into education if possible.

“We will look at whether we can use existing buildings and bring on students earlier rather than waiting for the actual building itself,” he said.

“We have a strong relationship with big construction firms and medium size builders that are constantly looking for workers, so where we can pipeline people through programs and into work we will look to do that.”

Majority want change to drug punishments EMILY FESZCZUK

olling of the Penrith electorate has revealed that people believe changes need to be made to the current drug laws.

The results come at a time when the NSW Government is expected to respond to the findings of its Special Commission of Inquiry into the Drug Ice. Uniting NSW/ACT commissioned independent company uComms to review six electorates, including Penrith, which revealed that a majority don’t support jailing people found in possession of small quantities of drugs.

“National surveys show the public is really relaxed about having a health response to personal drug use but politicians would say that is not what the local constituents think, so we wanted to test that,” Uniting NSW/ACT Head of Advocacy and Media , Emma Maiden said.

“We had polled Parramatta but got feedback to go further into the heart of western Sydney, so when Stuart Ayres became Deputy Leader we added Penrith in.”

90 per cent of voters in Penrith support a non-custodial response for cannabis use

and more than 71 per cent for heroin use, 79 per cent for ecstasy and 71 per cent for methamphetamines.

Ms Maiden said Uniting wants to encourage referral to treatment and education rather than harsh punishments.

But that does not mean it is pushing for a legalisation of currently banned drugs.

“We don’t advocate that drugs should be legalised,” she said.

“What we are saying is if someone is caught with a tiny amount for personal use it shouldn’t ruin their life trajectory for that one choice.”

She said legislation changes could make a significant difference to people’s lives.

“We want drug legislation that treats people with dignity and respect, that is informed by best practice and evidence and that treats drug use as a health and welfare issue,” she said.

With the inquiry set to spark change, Ms Maiden said she hopes there is an expansion of treatment services.

“We need increased investment in treatment services, particularly in regional and rural areas,” she said.

“We also hope the Government expands diversion schemes that apply for cannabis and apply it to all drugs which puts us in

line with other states except Queensland.”

A NSW Government spokesperson could not give a specific date for the announcement of amendments but said it was being discussed.

“The NSW Government is considering its response to the Ice Inquiry,” the spokesperson said.

“It is important the recommendations from the Inquiry are thoroughly considered and the S t a t e Government will make an announcem e n t in due Emma Maiden from Uniting NSW/ACT says amendments are needed. course.”

Penrith: Man without train ticket found to have drugs, stolen ring A man has been charged after he was caught with drugs and suspected stolen goods in Penrith.

About 5pm on Tuesday, November 2, police were patrolling Penrith Railway Station.

They stopped and had a conversation with a 23-year-old Cranebrook man, who allegedly told them he did not have a valid ticket.

Officers searched the man, when he allegedly removed an item from his shorts pockets and placed it in the pocket of his jumper.

Police retrieved the item, which was a foil package wrapped in clear plastic.

It’s alleged inside the foil was methamphetamine weighing 0.15 grams and a silver ring.

Police allege that the man informed officers that the item was ‘ice’.

The man was charged with ‘possess prohibited drugs’ and ‘goods in personal custody suspected being stolen’.

He will appear in Penrith Local Court on Tuesday, November 30.

Penrith: Man hit with multiple charges after shopping centre hit

A man has been charged with a string of offences after breaking into a shopping complex and stealing in Penrith.

About 2.30am on Thursday, November 4, it is alleged a man used a tool and bicycle to break a door frame and glass panel to enter a shopping centre in Penrith.

Once inside, the man allegedly damaged a glass shop window and removed jewellery from the front window display.

He allegedly placed the items in a backpack and exited the shopping complex but the incident was captured on CCTV and police were called to the centre soon after.

Police were patrolling the surrounding streets of the shopping centre when they observed a man riding a push bike without a helmet along Castlereagh Street, Penrith.

The man allegedly dropped the bicycle in an attempt to evade police, which resulted in a short foot pursuit.

Inside a backpack, it’s alleged police located 59 items of jewellery, which came to a total value of $16,080 that police allege were stolen from the store.

A chisel and a resealable bag containing 0.014 grams of amphetamines were also allegedly located on the man.

Checks on the bike could not identify a serial number, which had allegedly been removed.

The man was arrested and taken to St Marys Police Station. He was charged with ‘break enter steal’, ‘possess house breaking implements’, three counts of ‘goods in custody’, ‘possess prohibited drug’ and ‘rider not wear helmet’.

Kingswood: Drugs, knives found during vehicle search A man has been charged after being caught with drugs and knives.

About 5.50pm on Friday, November 5, police saw a vehicle travel on the incorrect side of the road while they were patrolling O’Connell Street, Kingswood.

Police signalled the vehicle to stop and spoke to a 47-year-old Manly Vale man.

Police searched the vehicle and allegedly in a backpack, they located a small container of amphetamines weighing .19 grams and a six centimetre folding knife.

A further search was conducted where a sword was allegedly located under the passenger seat and 1.31 grams of cannabis in the centre console.

The man was charged with two counts of ‘possess prohibited drugs’ and two counts of ‘custody of knife in public place’.

Werrington: Man charged with high range drink driving About 12.30am on Sunday, November 7, police sighted a vehicle travelling at high speed on Dunheved Road, Werrington.

The driver, a 51-year-old Colyton man was stopped and breath tested, which proved positive. The man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station, where he underwent a breath analysis, which returned a positive reading of 0.197.

TACKLING FAKE VAX CERTIFICATES Responding to the emergence of fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates across the State, the New South Wales Government has amended Public Health Orders to put in place punishments for people who produce or attempt to use fake vaccination certificates.

The current Orders restrict many societal freedoms like attending pubs, clubs and restaurants and other gatherings to those who have received two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine. This has led to multiple websites emerging whereby people who are not double-vaccinated can input certain data following which a fake vaccine certificate will be generated.

While the relevant security features (for example, QR code technology) of the legitimate certificates does not yet appear to have been able to be replicated, the fake documents, which look very similar to the legitimate ones, can be utilised to gain entry into venues that rely on a security guard or COVID marshal simply citing the COVID certificate.

The differences in appearance between the legitimate and fake certificates are so minor that it is unlikely they would be picked up, particularly in a scenario where there is a large amount of people trying to gain entry into a venue at the same time, for example, at a busy restaurant or pub.

The government has added the following to existing Public Health Orders:

“A person must not provide, display or produce to another person information or evidence, including vaccination evidence, purporting to show the person is a fully vaccinated person, unless the information or evidence is true and accurate.”

A person who breaches this Order may face fines of up to $11,000 and/or six months in prison. There is also carryover sanctions in the form of a further penalty of $5,500 for each day the offence continues.

The government’s decision to impose sanctions on people who produce false vaccination documents is a logical and consistent one. Fines have existed to deter members of the public from breaching the Public Health Orders since the pandemic began, with respect to things like Stay-at-Home Orders and the like. It makes sense that a person who deliberately forges a document to try to circumvent a Public Health Order should be exposed to significant legal repercussions.

Irrespective of your stance on COVID19 vaccines generally, this is a matter of law, and the legal system needs to be able to penalise people who breach it.

It is not a matter of opinion, nor one of human rights or civil liberties. A law/ order exists, and members of society have to follow it or they face the consequences just like they would if they received a speeding ticket for exceeding the speed limit.

POLICE OFFICER ASSAULTED AT PUB A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a police officer outside of the Aussie Arms on High Street.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on Sunday.

The 29-year-old from Glenbrook allegedly assaulted a male constable and was arrested and charged. He was initially taken to hospital due to his level of intoxication.

Charitable motorcycle club is on the hunt for new members EMILY FESZCZUK

ou may have seen members of the Nepean Ulysses Club around town but there is much more to this motorcycle group than meets the eye.

The not-for-profit organisation is seeking those who like to socialise with the wind in their hair and giving back to the community.

Established in Sydney in 1983, the Ulysses social club now has around 130 branches across Australia and 15 overseas.

Nepean Ulysses Branch President, David Schoer said the requirements for the local group, which has been around for 28 years, are pretty simple.

“The only criteria to join the club is being above 40 and having an interest in motorcycles,” Mr Schoer said.

“Our meetings are now held on the third Tuesday of the month at Nepean Rowers, at 8pm and we meet every Sunday at McDonald’s at Panthers to ride.”

Mr Schoer said a less known fact about the club is its fundraising aspect.

“We do our social rides for fun but we also do charity rides and fundraising through

“The Ulysses Club Arthritis Research Fund is something not a lot of people know about but where the majority of the money the club raises goes.”

PETA Asia investigators visited seven randomly selected abattoirs in Indonesia this year and found workers repeatedly failed to stun the animals adequately, often violently twisting and breaking their tails to make the

steers stand up for another captive-bolt gun shot. If you buy meat or purchase leather shoes, you’re putting money in the pockets of the people who send these animals to be slaughtered in hideous, painful ways overseas. And since the leather produced in Indonesia is exported globally, you could be wearing or sitting on the skin of the same animals that suffered excruciating deaths in these videos. The government won’t end this horror. But you can decide to spare animals’ lives every time you buy a meal, a pair of shoes, or a belt. Taking personal responsibility will end this trade.

Fresh look at hospital ugprade EMILY FESZCZUK

he State Government has unveiled the first look at Stage 2 of the $1 billion Nepean Hospital Redevelop-

ment.

Nepean and Blue Mountains residents can now see a fly-through animation showcasing the future world-class health facilities.

Member for Penrith, Stuart Ayres said the project would expand and upgrade the hospital along with community health services to benefit the growing community for years to come.

“This major project will generate thousands of jobs and deliver the very best healthcare available to the community, making the region an even more appealing place to live and work,” Mr Ayres said.

“This project is a huge win for the wider Penrith community and future proofs healthcare for our growing population.”

A new intensive care unit, and in-centre renal dialysis unit will be delivered as part

of the expansion as well medical imaging, nuclear medicine and more beds.

Cardiology services, integrated community health services and a new front of house for the campus will also be included.

With construction of Stage 1 well underway, Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies said the fast-tracking of the second stage will ensure vital services are provided sooner.

“We are using the COVID stimulus funding to get on with Stage 2 while work is continuing on finalising Stage 1 of the redevelopment,” Ms Davies said.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard said hospital staff and community representatives have provided valuable input.

“The $1 billion redevelopment and expansion of Nepean Hospital will transform healthcare in the region – bringing worldclass health services much closer to home for the Penrith and Nepean Blue Mountains communities,” Mr Hazzard said.

s restrictions lift, there are still community members that are struggling with challenges brought on from COVID-19.

Not-for-profit youth and community organisation Fusion has funding to provide short-term support to those in the Penrith Local Government Area (LGA) who need a helping hand.

Fusion Western Sydney Team Leader, Judy Tweeddale said the funding to provide assistance was crucial.

“Fusion has recently received the NSW Government COVID-19 Partnership Grant to enhance delivery of services to vulnerable people in affected local communities,” she said.

“The evidence is clear that families, young people and communities living in Local Government Areas of Concern, including Penrith, are experiencing increased pressure and hardship.”

Ms Tweeddale said all requests will be reviewed to aid as many people as possible.

“We can provide a range of additional short-term services to those being affected by the economic and mental health impacts of the recent extended lockdown,” she said.

St Marys’ time to shine As Penrith enjoys record investment, is our city’s east being left behind?

ith the Western Sydney Airport and north-south metro less than five years away, Penrith Council is being urged to set its sights on St Marys.

Councillor Todd Carney said it was time Council focused more heavily on the future planning of St Marys, warning without proper direction it threatened to become a “hodge-podge”.

“It seems since I’ve been on Council, a lot of it’s been around the river, around Penrith, it’s time to change our attention and actually start looking at St Marys because that is the next big thing, especially with the airport and the train line,” he said.

“Let’s not wait, let’s spend the time now while we can and actually design this properly.”

Deputy Mayor and fellow East Ward Councillor Tricia Hitchen, who has requested Council investigate a City Park for St Marys, agreed.

“When you look at all the things that are happening in Penrith at the moment,

when you look at $24 million for the Regatta Park, $12 million for the City Park, $2.5 million for the Police Cafe, $10 million for the upgrades of Tench Reserve... $100 million on the Soper Place upgrade, and you look at what’s happening at St Marys and we’ve got crickets out here,” she said.

The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) said it was taking a “strategic approach” to ensure St Marys’ fast growth was balanced with the right infrastructure “in the right place at the right time”, including more open space for the community.

“We’re working with Council, Transport for NSW, Sydney Metro, Land and Housing Corporation and other government agencies to prepare a strategic framework for St Marys to place on exhibition next year so the community can have its say,” a DPIE spokesman said.

Council recognises the value St Marys plays as a strategic centre for the future of western Sydney, and alongside the Australian and State Governments, is “investing heavily” in projects, a Council spokesman said.

In addition, the upgrade of the St Marys Commuter Car Park will deliver an additional 250 spaces.

Chair Martin Coote said the most valuable contribution Council and the NSW Government could make is to outline firm plans for spending specifically in St Marys Town Centre, and to demonstrate a willingness to work with private investors.

“St Marys Town Centre needs a seat at the table throughout the planning process,” he said.

“Decisions made on our behalf and delivered as a fait accompli can negatively affect local businesses and the community.”

Londonderry MP Prue Car said “potential abounds” in St Marys and encouraged Council to “learn from the successes of revitalising the Penrith CBD and turn those efforts to St Marys”.

Crossing proves a hit Wildlife winner: Ladder crossing in Glenmore Park exceeds expectations EMILY FESZCZUK

W

estern Sydney’s first ever ladder crossing for native animals has proven to be a wild success.

The wildlife ladder in Glenmore Park has made sure that small fauna species can travel around the area safely.

The rope and cable ‘ladder’ was installed to suspend above Bluestone Drive at Glenmore Park by Greater Sydney Local Land Services, Penrith City Council and Mulgoa Landcare.

Greater Sydney Local Land Services Officer for Biodiversity, Peter Ridgeway said cameras have shown thousands of critters including sugar gliders and possums commuting between Mulgoa Nature and Surveyors Creek Reserves.

“The results were above anything we could have hoped for with 1,364 records of native wildlife using the crossing in the four months between June and September this year, with animals recorded using it almost every single night,” he said.

“Sugar gliders are uncommon and declining in western Sydney and the crossing now safely links the populations

Council is helping to support the recovery of our arts community post COVID-19 by delivering an upgrade of the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre (The Joan), one of our most important creative hubs in Penrith.

Council will build a new 19 sqm café in the atrium foyer, including 66 sqm of internal and external seating, to enliven the venue and provide all-day dining for the whole community to enjoy.

The new café will be the perfect place to grab a meal before a show or catch up over a drink at the bar to reflect after a performance. Not just for patrons of The Joan, the café will be a popular place to meet with friends or family to enjoy quality café style food as well as theatre favourites such as ice cream.

This project is part of Council’s vision to revitalise significant spaces and places in our city. It will also help to

deepen the audience’s engagement with the arts and broaden the patronage at The Joan.

Council and The Joan are now seeking a professional food and beverage operator to manage the café. The successful applicant will have the flexibility to cater to a wide audience in a dynamic venue that transitions from daytime café to an evening theatre bar.

Interested hospitality operators can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) before December 1 2021.

The Development Application for The Joan café has been approved, with construction set to commence in January 2022.

Depth of character shown during final months of schooling No one could have predicted the final two years of schooling the Class of 2021 would experience.

With two prolonged lockdowns, and the final months before the HSC exams spent in ‘Off-Campus Learning’, the biggest test has been of their character.

Penrith Anglican College Deputy Principal (Secondary) Mr Leighton Corr said, “This isn’t what they planned or hoped for, but they have gotten on with things. They haven’t just been studious, they aren’t just learners preparing for a test, what I have seen in these young people during the last few months has been a demonstration of their character.

At the end of Term 3, the College put together care packages with Christmas presents, bags of treats, study aids, and thoughtful letters from teachers. These were given

to the students as they drove through the school. A video of their time at school was created and their Primary Prayer Buddy classes also sent notes and videos of encouragement and support.

They also had a ‘end of term Year 12 Zoom’ event where staff and students reflected on some of the great times this cohort had shared together.

Principal Felicity Grima said, “I know Year 12 students have felt the care, prayers and support of everyone at the College as well as our broader community. We continue to keep them in our prayers as they complete their HSC exams.”

Is Facebook still Facebook? What the name change means for you

I

n a major rebranding, Facebook’s corporate name has been changed to Meta.

It intends to broaden its horizons by entering sectors such as VR, and CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg believes the name change will better reflect this.

The move is reminiscent of Google’s parent company’s rebranding to Alphabet in 2015.

What is Meta?

Meta is the Greek for “beyond”. According to Facebook’s vision, the “metaverse” is the concept of a shared, virtual environment that is not limited to augmented reality and virtual reality. Facebook envisions a world in which people will be able to access a virtual world through new devices such as glasses and headsets, in addition to computers and smartphones.

The name change was made to “reflect who we are and what we hope to build...

To commemorate the official name

change, the company replaced its “thumbs up” sign at its Menlo Park, California campus after the name change with a blue, infinity shape.

What does it mean for you?

Facebook and its apps, including Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, will retain their names as part of the rebranding. They will also be kept in a separate division from Facebook Reality Labs, which houses the company’s virtual reality products. This means that the social media app will remain known as Facebook, but the branding will be removed from WhatsApp, Instagram, and other places.

From now on, all of those apps will be grouped under the “Meta” label, with Facebook being just one of many.

As a business, it doesn’t have much impact on your activities on Facebook because they will be working just the same. All the products on its social media platforms will be unaffected by this name change.

The only difference is that you can expect diverse products from Meta as it executes its vision of expanding to virtual spaces where social media users can interact via digital avatars.

TURNING BACK TIME Penrith was declared a municipality in 1871, and, until 1881, meetings were held in various locations around Penrith.

A new Town Hall was built in 1881 on the corner of Henry and Evan Streets. The pictured house on the right was located next to these chambers.

The right hand side of the building was used as general offices and the left side was the Town Clerk’s Office.

It is believed that it was moved to this location from the Aboriginal mission at Mulgoa.

It was demolished in the 1960s, when the new library was built.

The library would stay on this site for some four decades, before moving to its current location in the Civic Centre in 1994.

SUMMER SPECTACLE IN WESTERN SYDNEY udiences are invited on an extraordinary adventure as ‘The Little Prince’ returns to western Sydney direct from France next year.

The grand-scale performance will be at West HQ’s Sydney Coliseum Theatre from January 1, 2022 for a strictly limited three week season.

Associate Producer, Catherine Haigh told the Weekender that the innovative stage production comes from a much loved tale.

“The book was a French novella written in 1943 that was written as a children’s title

but took people’s hearts on a much broader scale, selling over 200 million copies and it is the second most translated book in the world under the Bible,” Ms Haigh said.

“It is a tale of a little prince who traverses different planets looking for purpose, meaning and true love… the fascinating thing is that it resonates with someone who is seven, 17 or 70 as you meet the varied and vibrant characters he meets upon his journey.”

A multigenerational experience, Ms Haigh said the integrated modern elements provide a feast for the eyes.

“It is a classic tale but there is a level of innovation with video mapping and pro-

jections so when you sit in the theatre it becomes an immersive experience which speaks to both children and adults,” she said.

“It is vivid and lush and you move relatively quickly through different characters and places with everything from contemporary dance to parkour and acrobatics.”

After the COVID-19 pandemic shut down theatres and the world for some 18 months, this show will welcome the first major international touring cast back to the country.

“The show debuted in Paris and sold out then came to the Opera House and was again a sell out but because of COVID we felt we had unfinished business as there

was still an overwhelming demand,” Ms Haigh said.

“To be able to bring an entirely international cast of first class calibre performers post-COVID is so exciting and we are thrilled to be able to provide a hero product to a hero venue.”

At the movies...

REVIEW Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings  2 hours, 13 minutes With furry chicken pig like creatures and huge dragons, you might mistake ‘ShangChi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ as a Disney story, but it is a superhero movie like you have never seen before.

The latest offering from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is an origin story that sees a young man, Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) face his powerful but immoral father (Tony Leung) and the past he thought he left behind.

It starts off feeling very contemporary but then becomes richer with culture as the history of the story is revealed. As Shang-Chi has to find the power within him to confront his father you realise there is a deeper message with themes of accepting where you have come from to discover who you are meant to be.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Marvel film without amazing choreographed fight scenes and special effects,

but the martial arts and tai chi that heavily features adds an interesting new element.

Visually, the whole production looks beautiful and the drama is well balanced with humour from the lovable Awkwafina who stars.

Fans of the comic book franchise will be thrilled with the pay offs that feature but it is just as enjoyable for first time viewers.

gram on SKY News has been axed. Following eight years with the news channel Jones’ program, simply titled ‘Alan Jones’, was officially given the heave-ho last week. As for what Jones does next, that’s anyone’s guess. Perhaps retirement might finally be in order?

SwimSAFER week’s vital message I

t’s SwimSAFER week!

As I watch this year’s cohort of Year 12 students start to sit their HSC exams, it struck me that when I finished high school I had no idea of the twists and turns in my career that would lead me to very proudly becoming the 2021 NSW SwimSAFER ambassador, on behalf of Swim Australia’s annual SwimSAFER week, November 15-21.

Now in its eighth year, nearly 500 registered swim schools will participate in the campaign across Australia. As a swim school we are dedicated to helping families discover the joy of swimming every week and are concerned about the recent increase in drownings, as research revealed 55 per cent of children are not learning to swim, with 27 per cent forced out of lessons due to COVID restrictions and 28 per cent unable to find class availability at their local swim school.

The SwimSAFER Report, commissioned by Swim Australia, discovered only 37 per cent of parents

planned to enrol their child in official lessons within the next six months, with 29 per cent planning to teach their child themselves. We support families having fun and helping children outside of lessons become more confident with their swimming skills but the right foundations need to be developed with trained professionals.

Swim Australia advocates that swimming year-round, learning vital water safety skills, and participating in the SwimSAFER Week will help kids become safer, smarter and stronger in the water, and also in everyday life. The campaign has some high profile ambassadors this year including Olympians Leisel Jones, Brendon Hall and Alexander Graham, and a partnership with PJ Masks to get our little swim students excited about the swim safety messages that their animated heroes will deliver!

Why SwimSAFER, rather than SwimSAFE? Children can never be 100 per cent safe around water – there is always a risk. Which is why

layers of protection are so important – fence the pool, shut the gate, learn to swim, always supervise, and learn CPR. Not all children are lucky enough to get the opportunity to learn the water safety skills that could save their life. Swim it Forward’s mission is to save lives by making learn to swim accessible to as many children as possible across Australia. 55 per cent of Australian children are not currently in lessons, but drowning is still the number one cause of accidental death in children under five, and we saw a 108 per cent increase in drownings since lockdowns in this age group, with hundreds more suffering life altering injuries and disabilities because of a submersion.

For every child we help place into a learn to swim program, the more we lower the risk of drowning deaths.

Preparing for the festive splurge instead of buying everyone a present or set price limits on gifts?

Reducing spending need not interfere with having a great time. However, there are likely to be areas that you can reduce costs without reducing the things that are important to you.

The other area where people go wrong is funding the Christmas period. Too often people go into debt to pay for gifts or the annual holiday. Quite often this is credit card debt with high interest rates making it difficult to pay the debt off. This negatively impacts cashflow moving forward.

The best option is to acknowledge that the festive season is likely to be expensive and plan in advance. The simplest method is to calculate how much extra you will spend over that period, and commence a savings plan to ensure you have sufficient funds come Christmas time.

Spreading the cost throughout the year also helps. This may involve buying presents throughout the year or prepaying for holidays. Christmas is a great time of year and should be enjoyed with family and friends. My advice would be to do your best to control spending and be ready and prepared for significantly higher costs over this period.

ype 2 diabetes is becoming more and more prevalent and is occurring in individuals younger and younger in age. As many people are aware this disease has poor health outcomes and reduces quality of life, and continues to progress after the initial diagnosis.

The good news is, this disease can be prevented and managed with simple, achievable and affordable lifestyle choices.

Nutrition intake, physical activity levels and adequate sleep collectively play an important role with your risk of developing type 2 diabetes and how quickly the disease progresses. See below where we explore the latest scientific research.

Ideal nutrition intake and dietetic advice: – Choose low glycemic index (GI), high fibre carbohydrate choices, such as brown or basmati rice, quinoa, whole grain/seedy bread and wholegrain or pulse pasta.

– Portion carbohydrates at each meal; aiming for a quarter of the plate to be filled with wholegrain carbohydrate options.

– Increase fibre with non-starchy vegetables, wholegrains, legumes and

fruits (aim for 30-35 grams of fibre per day).

– Build balanced meals including each

macronutrient at each meal (a portion of protein, carbohydrates, fibre and fat); The inclusion of all these nutrients

has a positive impact on the absorption of carbohydrates and therefore blood sugar levels.

Physical activity – As a minimum; complete at least 150 min/week of moderate to vigorous aerobic exercise spread out during at least three days during the week.

– If you can exercise daily aim to do so.

Completing a mixture of aerobic exercise and resistance/strength training.

– Exercise improves insulin sensitivity and promotes weight loss which is preventive for diabetes.

Adequate sleep – Aiming for adequate amounts of sleep (seven to nine hours per night for adults).

– Ongoing sleep loss has been shown to lead to glucose intolerance and insulin resistance, both of which lead to an increase in blood sugar levels.

– Lack of sleep can increase the appetite and lead us to crave foods high in fat and carbohydrates.

In today’s society there are many choices on our supermarket shelves, offering high fibre and wholegrain options making it easier than ever before to include these in your daily diet.

Why do vets recommend desexing?

There are many health and behaviour benefits for neutering your male dog.

This includes: • Less roaming – Entire adult male dogs tend to be very good at escaping from their yards and wandering the streets, searching for females and marking their territory.

• Less aggressive behaviour – Entire male dogs are more likely to show aggressive behaviour due to the hormone testosterone. Dog fights can often lead to injuries to both humans and other pets due to this heightened behaviour.

• Less health issues – Desexed male dogs have less health issues as this eliminates the possibility of developing testicular cancer in later life, and

decreases likelihood of developing prostate problems, tumours of the anus, and perineal hernias When is the best time to desex my male puppy?

The best time to desex your puppy is around six months of age. This is because the puppy is old enough for the body to have matured enough to make the anaesthetic low risk but young enough so he hasn’t reached sexual maturity yet.

This also aligns with the need to have your dog registered with Penrith City Council. This registration fee costs less when your dog has been desexed.

What does the desexing procedure involve?

In a canine castration, both testicles are removed through a small incision made through the skin just above the scrotum while your pet is under a general anaesthetic. There are generally no sutures to be removed and procedure only requires your dog to be in hospital for the day.

Desexing your pet will allow your male pets to live a longer, happier and healthier life.

olkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia has announced that its very first ‘Big Bad Wolf’, the Walkinshaw-tuned Amarok V6 W580S, will be auctioned off to raise money for the Black Dog Institute and its work in mental health.

The uber-popular hot rod ute, launched earlier this year in partnership with legendary tuning house, Walkinshaw, has set sales records around the country, both online and in dealerships. While all W-Series’ leave Volkswagen’s Walkinshaw Station with unique numbering to commemorate the special Amarok’s reputation as a thoroughbred, the very first (#0001) W580S Walkinshaw built, finished in April, never left the stable – held back for a very special purpose.

Volkswagen will be collaborating with eBay’s preferred charity partner, Bid for Good, and hosting a five-day timed auction on the Amarok website, www. walkinshawstation.com.au/amarokauction, from November 23 to 28, 2021.

All proceeds of the first Volkswagen Amarok V6 W580S auction will go directly to the Black Dog Institute to help with its work in providing support, research and discussion around mental health.

One in five people – approximately five

million people in Australia – will experience symptoms of mental illness in any given year; with mental illness affecting half of all Australians across the course of their life. Unfortunately, of those frightening statistics, around 60 per cent of people don’t seek help, contributing to suicide being the leading cause of death for 15-44-year-olds.

Ryan Davies, Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia, said he was pleased to see the brand’s rarest example of the W580S go to such a worthy cause.

“We always knew we wanted to do something special with the our Amarok V6 W-Series number one, and this is definitely it,” he explained.

“In what has been an extremely challenging year for all of us, we’re proud to be partnering with the Black Dog Institute and in some small way contribute to their excellent, and much needed work.”

Karen Elliff, Director, Funding and Partnerships from the Black Dog Institute, was excited to see how Volkswagen’s own dark wolf fared on the auction block.

“We’re very grateful to Volkswagen Group Australia for undertaking this very special auction to raise funds for mental health research,” she said.

“The funds will go towards continuing our research to help more people seek mental health support where needed.”

enrith haven’t wasted any time replacing the recently sacked Tyrone May, announcing the signing of young playmaker and local junior Sean O’Sullivan for the 2022 season.

The 23-year-old Glenmore Park Brumbies junior returns to the club on a one-year deal following stints with the Sydney Roosters, Brisbane Broncos and New Zealand Warriors between 2018 and 2021.

When O’Sullivan last wore Panthers colours in 2016, he captained a Penrith SG Ball side, featuring the likes of Brian To’o and Mitch Kenny, to the premiership and national title.

“I’m a Penrith junior who grew up in Glenmore Park dreaming of playing for the Panthers, so I’m very excited to come home,” O’Sullivan said.

“The opportunity to learn from the great coaches and quality halves at the club was one I simply couldn’t pass up. I’m going to rip into pre-season and do everything I can to help Panthers achieve success again in 2022.”

A former Australian Schoolboys and NSW U18s representative, O’Sullivan made his first grade debut in 2018 and has played 22 NRL games.

With Nathan Cleary a chance of missing the start of the season following shoulder surgery, along with another busy State of Origin period for Penrith, O’Sullivan will provide much-needed relief when the NRL side is down on troops.

“As a local junior who helped bring a national title to Penrith, we’re delighted to have Sean return to the club,” Panthers General Manager Rugby League, Matt Cameron said.

“His acquisition provides our NRL squad with vital halves depth ahead of the 2022 season.

“We’re confident Sean’s experiences as an NRL playmaker to this point have him well-equipped to fulfil an important role for the Panthers next season.”

Williams set to lead Wanderers NATHAN TAYLOR

R

hys Williams is yet to play a game for the Wanderers, but his impact at the club has been so immense that he’s been named captain for the upcoming A-League season.

The 32-year-old, who joined Western Sydney this season following a threeyear stint in Saudi Arabia, has played a significant role on the field during the pre-season in the heart of defence.

While off the field Williams has been a vocal leader in the group, setting an example to the next generation of Wanderers.

Often captaining Al Qadisiyah and former Middlesbrough sides, the Perthborn defender has brought a wealth of experience and leadership qualities to the club over the past few months.

Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas congratulated Williams on the captaincy.

“Since arriving at the club, Rhys has been a fantastic leader and individual in our pre-season preparations,” he said.

“Rhys has led the group with pride, respect and honour and we look forward to him and the team having all the success this season.”

Wanderers coach Carl Robinson praised Williams’ contribution to the club so far.

“It was a difficult decision because this year we have so many talented senior players, who all have excellent leadership qualities in very different ways,” he said.

“Rhys is a very good person both on and off the field and has values that align with the people of western Sydney.

“He is the epitome of a good teammate and leader, he is very vocal but detailed orientated in his communication.

“He also supports the young players that we are trying to develop here at the Wanderers and has the respect of our key senior players.”

Williams, who played with the Socceroos between 2009-2013 and spent time at Victory and Glory, said he was honoured to wear the captain’s armband.

“It is a privilege and an honour to be named the captain of this great club,” he said.

“I would like to thank head coach Carl Robinson and the club for giving me this honour and opportunity to lead the club in their historic 10th season.

“Having only been at the club for a few months, it feels like I have been here for years and I feel at home at the Wanderers.”

n a move that will only strengthen football in western Sydney for decades to come, work has started on the latest stage of the new Wanderers Football Park in Rooty Hill.

The NSW Government provided $5 million to the Wanderers for Stage 4 of the facility at Blacktown International Sportspark, as one of 22 projects awarded $39.95 million in round two of the Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund.

Opening early next year, Stage 4 will cost $6.25 million and includes construction of nine all-weather five-a-side football pitches, a facility featuring office space, function room and change rooms, a new amenities building for the southern area of the Football Park, as well as landscaping and supporting infrastructure.

Minister for Sport Natalie Ward said Wanderers Football Park would provide a dedicated facility for the development of footballing talent in western Sydney, along with a focus on community involvement.

Penrith will also return to Auckland for the first time in several seasons when they play the Warriors at Mount Smart Stadium on Saturday, June 18 at 5.30pm. It will be the Warriors’ first game back in New Zealand since the pandemic started.

13 of Penrith’s 24 matches will be shown on free-to-air TV via Channel Nine.

“There certainly is a lot to look forward to in 2022,” said NRL CEO Andrew Abdo.

“The draw and the schedule is always an important time of year for a lot of banter, a lot of analysis and a lot of prediction.

“Our draw is particularly complex because there’s a lot of inputs that need to go in to satisfying the outcomes we want to achieve.”

Mr Abdo confirmed a new format for pre-season trials would be announced in the coming weeks.

olyton St Clair Colts Cricket Club will share in $10,000 worth of grant funding made available as part of the HomeWorld Helpers Grant program.

An initiative of the Sydney Thunder and HomeWorld, the club that plays in the Penrith Junior Cricket Association will receive a $1000 grant, which will be put towards the purchase of new equipment, including sun shelters, for both junior and Woolworths Cricket Blast teams. The funding will also be used to secure drink bottles and sun hats for players.

Colyton St Clair is one of 10 clubs across the Thunder Nation to benefit from the program, which sets out to develop the next generation of Sydney Thunder stars in the shape of improved diversity and inclusion opportunities, equipment, uniforms, coaching and local promotion of the game.

HomeWorld Group of Companies’ Director of Marketing, Sponsorship and Community, Trudi Busch, said HomeWorld was excited to continue with their Helpers Grant initiative.

“It has been great to see the grants being used by Thunder Nation Cricket Clubs over the past few years,” she said.

“We think it is important to support cricketing communities and hope that these new grants will help local clubs develop their younger players. Cricket should be accessible to anyone who wants to give it a go.”

Around The Grounds CRICKET: A new-look Penrith first grade team have lost their opening round match of the Belvidere Cup, going down to Fairfield-Liverpool last Saturday. Playing in a One Day match at Rosedale Oval, Fairfield-Liverpool won the toss and sent Penrith into bat first.

Penrith posted a strong score after 50 overs, 9/220. Jordan Browne led the way for the visitors, notching 58 hard-fought runs. When Fairfield-Liverpool hit the crease later that afternoon, they started terribly before a strong partnership between Yuvraj Sharma and Luke Ohrynowsky gave the home side the narrow win with less than three overs to spare. Penrith will look to regroup this Saturday when they go up against Campbelltown-Camden at Howell Oval.

CRICKET: Round 1 of the Nepean District Cricket Association (NDCA) is in the books, with Panthers Cricket Club having mixed results. In first grade, Panthers 10/98 went down to Phoenix Sports 2/101. In fifth grade, Panthers 7/217 opened their new season in style defeating Glenbrook Blaxland 10/204. In seventh grade, the match was washed out. The club will be hoping for wins in all three grades this weekend.

The 22-year-old grew up in Wentworth in southern NSW and was a member of the club’s Academy until his draft year when the Academy zones were changed and the Giants lost priority access to him. Brander was selected at pick 13 in the 2017 AFL Draft by the West Coast Eagles, playing 22 games over the past four seasons. A versatile tall, Brander stands at 196cm and has played in a variety of positions across his career so far. hether it’s visiting her favourite coffee shop, grabbing some delicious Thai takeaway or getting cuddles from her beautiful greyhound, Olympic gold medallist Jessica Fox is loving being back in Penrith.

After five months abroad doing what she does best, the 27-year-old finally returned home last week with two very important prized possessions in hand.

On Monday morning, during an exclusive interview and photo shoot with the Weekender, the paddling superstar proudly showed off the elusive C1 Gold medal and K1 Bronze medal she won at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Just about every Australian will remember where they were that afternoon in July when the bubbly girl from Leonay bounced back from disappointment 48 hours earlier to become an Olympic champion.

“Firstly, I want to thank the Penrith community for their support during the Games. I received so many pictures of kids dressing up, artwork, school projects etc when I was away,” Fox said.

“When I stopped by to collect my Thai takeaway the other day, I noticed Southlands Shopping Centre put up some posters congratulating me. It’s just been so cool and I appreciate all the love.”

Before Fox’s recent triumph in Tokyo she was already a recognisable figure around town but, since winning Olympic Gold, her stardom has skyrocketed and she’s certainly noticed it out and about.

“It’s really nice at the moment because, even though it’s been three months since the Olympics, people still have it on their minds. So, when I bump into people they tell me where they watched it or who they were with or what they felt during it – it’s really nice to be able to connect in that way and hear how they enjoyed the Olympics,” Fox said.

“I’m just enjoying getting back into the community and frequenting the coffee shops, like Underground Coffee Roasters, after training – just doing all the things I would normally do.

“I’ve also noticed some changes around town too, like the roadworks on Mulgoa Road have finally finished and it’s really nice seeing the Panthers premiership signs everywhere.”

enrith will play 10 Friday night games next season in an action-packed draw that features a host of mouth-watering clashes.

The Panthers will begin their Premiership defence with a blockbuster match against Tom Trbojevic’s Manly Sea Eagles at BlueBet Stadium on Thursday, March 10.
