Why did you become involved in the real estate industry?
Always have been from my early finance days the transition happened when I was looking to supplement my income with weekend work to feed a growing family.

There are several things.

WHAT DOES THE NEXT 12 MONTHS HAVE IN STORE?
This is the time of year when people ask for your predictions about what may happen in the year ahead. After reviewing what I wrote in Broking Breakdown a year ago, my response is: ‘I have no idea!’
A year ago in this column I made the confident prediction: ‘If you are a mortgage holder you can expect at least another 12 months of record low home loan interest rates’.
I wasn’t going out on a limb here. The Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), Dr Philip Lowe (pictured bottom right), had been repeatedly stating that economic
conditions wouldn’t force the RBA to increase its then cash rate of 0.1 per cent until at least 2024.
Of course, Vladimir Putin didn’t let Dr Lowe in on the fact Russia would invade Ukraine in February and help trigger a global economic crisis which would cause a surge in inflation around the world.
By May this year, the RBA had started lifting official interest rates and it has done so for eight consecutive months. We finish 2022 with Australia’s cash rate three percentage points higher at 3.1 per cent – its highest level in a decade.
I can confidently predict that interest rates will keep rising in 2023, because Dr Lowe told me so.
“The board expects to increase interest rates further over the period ahead, but it is not on a pre-set course,” the RBA said in a statement after its final meeting of the year.
“It is closely monitoring the global economy, household spending and wage and price-setting behaviour. The size and timing of future interest rate increases will continue to be determined by the incoming data and the Board’s assessment of the outlook for inflation and the labour market. The board remains resolute in its determination to return inflation to target and will do what is necessary to achieve that.”
So, there you go. I was more accurate in my 2021 forecast for the Penrith Panthers to secure back-to-back NRL Premierships in 2022. I’ll stick my neck out and tip them to get a hat-trick!
