or families like Sam and Rebecca McDonough, the completion of Penrith’s newest suburb, Caddens, means they can finally start their new life in booming western Sydney.

Caddens is part of Penrith City Council’s Werrington Enterprise Living and Learning Precinct, that

aims to put residents within reach of education, living and employment opportunities.

The suburb straddles the Great Western Highway, and is nestled in the hills behind the Kingswood Campus of the University of Western Sydney, just off the M4 and close to Kingswood and Werrington train stations.

The parks and community facilities are completed and already being enjoyed by new residents, including cycle and pedestrian pathways, a playground and BBQ area, and the Roger Nethercote Park, that offers stunning views of the Blue Mountains.

he opening of new play facilities has just made one of Penrith’s favourite places, the Nepean River, even better. Children of all ages can now play on new equipment at the end of Jamison Road near Tench Avenue, that includes a structure for toddlers and a new nest swing.

Penrith Mayor Ross Fowler (pictured with Penrith State MP Stuart Ayres) said the installation of the new equipment is the first step towards delivering Council’s Our River Masterplan.

“This new playground is a first physical step in delivering on the community-led Our River Masterplan and was designed in consultation with families who told us there needed to be opportunities for toddlers as well as older children,” he said.

“The playground is well situated under established shade trees and has a shade structure over an accessible picnic table. It also links well with the existing path network.”

The plan is a roadmap for connecting the Nepean River to

Penrith City Centre, enhancing its natural environment and nurturing a landscape that supports active, healthy lifestyles into the future.

Cr Fowler said the opportunities for the future of the river are enormous, including the potential for cafes, recreation and endless leisure activities.

“Pedestrian and cycle loops will also be implemented over time, and plans to improve views and expanding Regatta Park into a flexible event and festival space are now underway,” he said.

“The intention of the Masterplan is to re-invigorate the river with both the landscape and people of Penrith.”

The park is one of seven playgrounds across the city that were upgraded in the last financial year, that was enabled by funding out of Council’s Parks Asset Renewal Fund, 2011 Special Rate Variation and grants from the State Government.

Member for Penrith, Stuart Ayres, said the upgrade at the Nepean River is a core component of a playful and active Penrith.

Better way forward The creation of a new real estate division within NSW Fair Trading will help to lift industry standards, according to the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW).

REINSW President Malcolm Gunning said the Real Estate and Property Division announced last month will provide a better and more professional level of service to the consumer.

Tips for your lawn mower Change the air filter: Change the air filter to allow the engine to ‘breathe’ properly. The air filter’s role is to suspend oil droplets within it to filter out dirt and particles. Air filters routinely get clogged with oil and debris, so replacing your filter before each mowing season will help protect the mower’s engine and ensure it runs optimally.

Change the oil: Most mowers these days are four stroke engines which require oil to be replaced each year, or after 25 hours of use. To remove the old oil, Victa recommend the Briggs & Stratton Oil Removal Kit but others are also available.

Change the blades: Worn mower blades tear the grass instead of cutting it. When blunt, visit a specialist mower service centre where they can replace the blades, bolts and nuts.
