PropertyNow, an Australian real estate website, says that the reluctance of homeowners to investigate selling privately means that the majority are not aware of the thousands of extra dollars they could be making by taking it on themselves.

In the 10 years since PropertyNow’s establishment, website founder Andrew Blachut has helped thousands of people sell their homes privately and believes there are many more out there who could benefit.

“In general a house will sell itself and whoever is dealing with the buyer at the time will get credit for the sale, houses sell houses,” he said.

Mr Blachut said that having access to good marketing platforms is the advantage of listing your home with a real estate agent but that with some assistance, sellers can manage well on their own.

Get More For Your Home is a book written by Mr Blachut, detailing his experiences in the industry and featuring tips and tricks on how to do it yourself and still make good money in today’s market.

The farming industry in country Australia has been struggling for years as a result of relentless drought, which is making it tough for farmers to feed their livestock.

It is time for the State Government to take action against outdated stamp duty rates created by bracket creep, according to the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales.

REINSW President Malcolm Gunning said the level of taxation on homes in NSW is being unjustly affected by the failure to recognise increasing prices and archaic stamp duty rates.

“Bracket creep is a major issue in NSW. Due to increases in property prices home ownership is being taxed at levels higher than they were ever intended to be,” Mr Gunning said.

Homeowners were hit by an average stamp duty amount of $33,490 in December 2014.

There were 20,185 homes sold with $675,998,863 collected in stamp duty.

This compares to 19,665 residential properties purchased in December 2013 with $604,166,430 collected at an average of $30,723 per property sold.

With a change of season comes a new look for interiors, and paint company Dulux are forecasting a return to a bold 1980s-esque design style.

The trend for the season will be playful, with a focus on vibrant, bold colours, such as orange, green and blue, geometric shapes and graphic black and white patterns. According to Dulux colour and trends expert Andrea Lucena-Orr this look is influenced

to other elements in the room,” she said.

Another option is to choose a wall with an interesting structural element, like a window ledge, and use these bold colours to highlight the individual features of the space. Once complete you can add a bright or dark charcoal carpet to really make the look pop.

“It is time to have fun with colour and make some bold choices,” Ms Lucena-Orr said.

If the power was to go out, it could be very confusing for someone unfamiliar with your house to find their way around.

Leave a light on: If you can, leave a light on somewhere in the house.

My interest in Real Estate extends back to childhood, having been surrounded by family members who worked and continue to work in the industry. Although Penrith has changed and grown considerably, I still firmly believe the people of Penrith appreciate age-old values of honesty and decency. Matthew has been a life-long resident of Penrith, having lived locally for almost 40 years. His family’s link to the area goes back even further, when the O’Farrell’s established local businesses in the 1920s. In more recent times, he has been a successful operator of his own business and has also dedicated himself to supporting the local community. Matthew and his wife and proud to be raising their family in the City they have always called home.
