That’s e xactly w hat ha ppened t o Tempe re sident P atrick M cInerney a nd M arrickville re sident V an L iem H uynh, who t ook ou t Citizen of t he Year and Senior Citizen of t he Year respectively for 2014. Mr McInerney is the founder of the Tempe 2020 Facebook page. He has an unbeatable enthusiasm and l ove f or t he s uburb of T empe, wh ich he actively promote s v ia Fac ebook, c ommunity groups, fundraisers and grassroots campaigns. Van Liem Huynh, has been a practicing Buddhist and Tai Chi enthusiast who generously volunteers his time to help Marrickville locals learn the art of Tai Chi five times a week. Mayor of Marrickville Jo Haylen said this year’s Citizens o f th e Y ear w ere in spiring c ommunity leaders that deserved recognition. “Both P at a nd L iem a re u sing de dication a nd energy to improve our neighbourhoods, networks, and even our health,” she said. “While Pat is using social media to create community c onnectedness a nd b elonging, L iem is out there teaching Tai Chi classes, and leading walking groups. “Both are active fundraisers and volunteers – it’s just t hat t hey a re u sing d ifferent p athways t o achieve the same end.” Mr McInerney said t he news of h is nom ination
