Police investigate how man hit his head on footpath
A
27-year-old man remains critically injured at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital after he allegedly hit his head on the footpath following an argument with security at Newtown Hotel on Saturday night. About 11.30pm on Saturday, February 2, a patron at the King Street pub became involved in an argument with pub security guards after he was asked to leave the premises. Police have been told the man fell and hit his head on the footpath following the argument. Newtown Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics responded quickly to the incident and treated him initially on scene.
Police spokesperson said. Newtown detectives have set up Strike Force Blattman to delve into the circumstances surrounding the incident and anyone who can identify themselves in the CCTV images is asked to contact police. “Anyone in the pictures is asked to contact police so they can be interviewed, the NSW Police spokesperson said. Anyone present that evening at the pub is urged to contact Newtown Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Calls and emails from the Weekender to the hotel’s management for comment were not returned.
The critically injured man was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and underwent emergency treatment where he remains in a serious but stable condition. The 27-year-old is expected to undergo further surgery to replace part of his skull, which was removed to release pressure on his brain. With many patrons of the pub present at the time of the incident, police have released a set of CCTV images in the hopes of identifying possible witnesses. “With so many people present inside the pub at the time of the incident police are hoping that some may have witnessed the incident, a NSW

f Julia Gillard’s early election announcement is meant to be a political masterstroke, at the moment it’s proving to be more of a paralysing stroke than anything else. 24 hours after announcing that voters will get their chance to go to the polls on September 14, Craig Thomson was arrested and charged. Remember, he is still a suspended member of the Labor Party, he was a union official and he allegedly stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from some of the lowest paid workers in health to pay for hookers. Then came the resignation of two of Julia Gillard’s allies, Chris Evans and Nicola Roxon, in what they collectively told the media was a planned exit strategy. A planned upheaval that the Prime Minister says she was aware of 12 months ago and decided to move two days after nominating the election day. Th is is where the “masterstroke” is starting to look like a flop, and MPs are really starting to question their leader’s decision making process. One described it as another “WTF moment from Gillard”. To an already jittery caucus, the Prime Minister accused MPs of backgrounding

journalists and offering “negative assessments about the government”. Another says it was a “lecture and it was bizarre. She basically told us that journalists had complained to her about MPs leaking”. (That MP backgrounded me at the conclusion of the caucus meeting, and let me assure you journalists NEVER complain about getting leaks.) So this eight month lead-up to the election hasn’t helped Julia Gillard so far, and it’s provided Tony Abbott at least the luxury of mapping out a plan. But don’t forget another would-be, former, wannabe leader Kevin Rudd. The chaos, real or perceived, could again pave the way for his return. At the moment it’s unlikely, but as we know, a week in politics is a long time. As one of his supporters reminded me this week, “Gillard’s excuse for knifi ng Rudd was that a good government had lost its way. It would appear that we are now in the jungle without a machete”.

group of Tempe Public School mums will trek 50km from Palm Beach to Balmoral on March 1 to help restore sight to the needlessly blind. Marching under the name of the Tempe 2020 Trampers, eight women will make the mission as part of the ‘Wild Women on Top Sydney Coastrek’ charity event to raise funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation. Michelle Maconachie, Pauline Futeran, Helen Peacock and Helen Pentecost will form team one of the Tempe Coastrek contingent, and Lisa Newey, Francisca van Wel, Katie Notias, Helen Pentecost and Melissa Collins will comprise the second team. So far, they’ve raised $3,512.47 towards a $4,000 target. “When you think about it, $25 to give someone back their eyesight is not so much, somebody who’s got cataracts or needs a simple operation. People spend that much on lunch or dinner,” Ms Maconachie said. Ms Maconachie said the group wanted to raise money for a good cause, get fit and set a solid example for their children. “That’s how it all started, through our network up at Tempe Public School.

In memory of Betty Spears Tennyson Street Reserve to be renamed in honour of women’s rights activist VANESSA WATSON
ennyson Street Reserve at Dulwich Hill will be renamed in honour of Betty Spears after Marrickville Council approved the change unanimously on Tuesday night. The park will soon become known as the Betty Spears Playground after councillors voted unanimously for the change at the community and corporate services committee meeting. Born in 1926 and educated at St Brigid’s Marrickville, Ms Spears passed away in January last year after a lifetime campaigning for equal pay and workplace rights for women in New South Wales. Marrickville Mayor Victor Macri described Ms Spears as a very important character from Marrickville’s past and said it was fitting she be memorialised on the region’s map. “She was a bit of a trailblazer and we have to acknowledge that, Cr Macri said. “She was a champion of women’s rights and equal rights for women in the workplace. In 1954, Ms Spears joined the Dulwich Hill branch of the Labor Party and by 1968 was addressing public meetings about equal pay for women during National Equal Pay Week. When Ms Spears started her working life at 16 as a junior typist at the New South Wales Department of Labour and Industry at the height of World War II, the law was that women were paid 75 per cent of the wage paid to men.
T
A Dulwich Hill reserve will be renamed in honour of longtime campaigner for equal pay for women, Betty Spears.
A member of the union movement, she served in both the United Services Union and Unions NSW and was a major contributor to the fi rst equal pay case in 1972 as a member of the Labor Council’s equal pay committee. In 1979, Ms Spears was awarded a medal
of the Order of Australia for her services to the trade union movement. After Ms Spears’ death in January last year, the previous council adopted a motion to recognise her achievements in the local community and identify unnamed parks or lanes that could be
named in her remembrance. The council will submit a proposal to the Geographical Names Board of NSW to officially rename the reserve and a commemorative plaque and new signs will be installed at a cost of about $2500 using section 94 open space funds.

Council to make stand against motorway plans VANESSA WATSON
arrickville Council has formally opposed the WestConnex motorway after Greens councillors passed a motion to fight the major road project on Tuesday night. A motion was carried by Greens councillors David Leary, Melissa Brooks, Sylvie Ellsmore and Max Phillips with the support of Independent Morris Hanna and opposed by Liberal Rosana Tyler, Labor councillor Chris Woods and Mayor Victor Macri. Liberal Mark Gardiner abstained from voting and Labor councillors Jo Haylen, Emanuel Tsardoulias and Sam Iskandar were absent from the debate. The motion was raised in response to a unanimously endorsed recommendation by the Marrickville Cooks River Committee on November 26, which called for formal opposition to WestConnex and the widening of the M5 East and any road proposal that will have negative impacts on the Tempe Wetlands and Wolli Creek Regional Park. “It’s only a very small step in a big campaign to oppose the motorway,” Cr Leary said. “It’s going to involve a tunnel, it’s going to involve smoke stacks and the potential loss of millions of dollars from the council budget through the risk of State Government acquisition of road reserves.” Transport planner and UTS academic at the Institute for Sustainable Futures, Michelle Zeibots, spoke against the project at the meeting and said more public information was required in order for people to take a coherent and comprehensive position on the major proposal. “There’s ample technical justification to oppose the WestConnex motorway,” Ms Zeibots said. Public speaker Peter Stevens of the Wolli Creek Preservation Society said if the project eventuates, two hectares of bushland in the Wolli Creek valley

Armed robbery: Staff hit with a crowbar A blue Honda Jazz stolen from Stanmore on January 30 was used during an armed robbery at Waterloo on Friday, February 1. About 8.30pm two men entered a Bourke Street supermarket and threatened two staff members with a crowbar and a metal bar. One of the men hit one staff member on the head with the crowbar, causing a minor injury. They stole cash and wallets from staff before fleeing in the blue Honda Jazz with NSW registration ASD 95V. The fi rst man is described as Caucasian, 17 to 18-yearsold, 165cm to 170cm tall, wearing a baseball cap, with a green bandanna over his face, a blue jumper, dark coloured long pants and armed with a crowbar. The second is described as taller than the fi rst, dark brown skin possibly of African appearance, 17 to 18-years-old, wearing a baseball cap and a green jumper or jacket.

could be destroyed and “mega bucks” would be pulled away from public transport investment. “I would urge council… to move to form an opposition to the WestConnex and the M5 East extension. Duplicating motorways is not actually a solution to congestion, except in the very short term. We can keep on building them, but they’ll keep on getting congested,” he said.
A man has been arrested and charged after targeting hotel staff and police in a violent rampage at Glebe on February 1. About 11.30pm, a 25-year-old man staying at a Broadway hotel began to argue with staff in the hotel foyer. He allegedly threw a wine glass at the hotel concierge causing a cut to his nose before smashing a coffee table with a cricket bat and fleeing the hotel. About 12.10a, the man turned up at Glebe Police Station, where he smashed a mirror on a parked police car. He then allegedly walked into the police station armed with a shard of glass and threw it at two officers at the front counter, who ducked for cover. The man was arrested and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for medical assessment and later charged with a range of offences including assaulting police, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, malicious damage and breach of bail.

roviding improved services to the neediest members of the local community was the subject of an inaugural Sydney Local Health District forum at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital on Wednesday. The Vulnerable Children and Families Planning Forum attracted more than 35 staff from agencies that work closely with Sydney Local Health District, such as Inner West Sydney Medicare Local and the Department of Family and Community Services. Chief executive of Sydney Local Health District, Dr Teresa Anderson, said collaboration was vital in providing support and delivering better outcomes for vulnerable children and their families. “Families and children with multiple and complex needs, or a lack of resources, often fall through the gaps in the service sector,” Dr Anderson said.

egistered nurse Elyse Taylor is among the record number of graduate nurses who started their careers at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital on Monday. 25-year-old Ms Taylor, of Glebe, was one of 48 new nursing graduates who have been placed at the Camperdown facility to complete practical training. The recruitment process, which is coordinated by NSW Health, saw about 420 graduate nurses place Sydney Local Health District facilities like RPA as their fi rst preference for employment, an increase of 65 from last year. Asked why she chose Camperdown, Ms Taylor said the metropolitan hospital had some of the most state-of-the-art facilities available to young nurses entering the profession. “It’s defi nitely a centre of excellence in education,” My Taylor said. “It’s really groundbreaking in patient care… They’ve got such an established reputation for evidence-based healthcare and patient-centred care. Coming straight from uni, it’s quite nice to see that all of those theories are being utilised. “I’m originally from Canberra, which is really small compared to this, so to be in such a good, supportive local environment is really refreshing.” About 320 graduate nurses and midwives will start work with the Sydney Local Health District this month, with 174 at the RPA, 26 at Canterbury Hospital, 90 at Concord Hospital and 30 across the district’s mental health services. Ms Taylor chose RPA as her fi rst preference for employment and will start her placement at the hospital’s transplant unit following orientation. The new nurses will be exposed to a wealth of clinical expertise and support through two six-month placements across specialties.”

WEEKLY WINE by David Ellis
A drink to keep you sober
L
indeman’s $9.99 Bin range wines have long enjoyed a reputation, not only here but internationally as well, for both consistency of quality and value for money. Their recently released 2012 whites include a Bin 65 Chardonnay that reflects an excellent vintage in its sourced southeastern Australia region that included Sunraysia, Riverland and Robinvale near Swan Hill, all of which enjoyed good spring rainfalls followed by mild, warm weather that allowed for even fruit ripening. And six months in French oak has resulted in a delightfully easy-drinking wine for those of us who remain Chardonnay buffs, with nice fruit salad aromas of peach, fig and rockmelon, together with toasty oak and a crisp finish. Enjoy nicely chilled on its own at that incredible price of $9.99, or team it up with chicken and a creamy sauce, veal chops topped with fried mushrooms, or if you are more into seafood, with pan-fried crab cakes. One to note: A couple of interesting lower-alcohol sparklings from Italy’s Zonin Winery have been packed together in an attractive canvas carry bag with a clear plastic front that’s priced at just $23.95 to take along to that next picnic or party. The
Zonin Proescco DOC Spumante Brut is just 11 per cent alcohol and the Zonin Asti DOCG is just 7.5 per cent, which is great if you are watching your intake.

HOROSCOPES New Moon In Aquarius Squares Saturn; Feb 10th - Feb 25th
ARIES
MARCH 21 TO APRIL 20
Your social life could bring surprises during the next few weeks and you’ll learn something about a friend that surprises you. The New Moon is in a difficult aspect to Saturn so stand by for a time of inner reflection as you are entering an introspective time. Problems are likely in regards to your love life and your partner may be unwilling to communicate about matters that are on their mind.
TAURUS
APRIL 21 TO MAY 21
The focus is on greater fi nancial security, and you could well be looking at various options over the next few weeks. In cooperation with family members and in particular your partner you have an opportunity to fi rm up family fi nances. The New Moon in your 10th house indicates that certain obstacles and issues with colleagues or bosses will need to be sorted out on the career front.
GEMINI
APRIL 21 TO MAY 21
123ICD2835
Trends encourage you to avoid becoming involved in the same old things and wherever possible to get some variety into your life. Even if the weather outside is not the best, you do need a change of scenery. It would be best to pick a place where your intellect is stimulated. Saturn in your fourth house warns you to be careful of becoming involved in power struggles with loved ones and colleagues.
CANCER
Friday, February 8, 2013
14
The focus is on your fi nancial security and even though you would like to be the last of the big spenders this is not advisable. You may need to consult an accountant or bank manager in order to see what you can and cannot get away with during the months ahead. There may be some major bills that are going to need to be paid and therefore you will need to cut down on the luxuries for a short time.
LEO
JULY 23 TO AUGUST 23
A highly passionate phase in your life begins with the New Moon’s entry into your partnership house. Th is is the ideal time to discuss shared resources and intimate problems with someone you trust deeply as this will help you to relieve your anxieties. Romance can be strengthened at the moment and this is defi nitely the right time to tell someone exactly how much they mean to you.

With so many planets in your area of health and work there is a need for initiative and drive to make the most of your prospects. You’ll be forced to stand out and make your mark on the professional world. In health affairs, the vitality of the planets will make you feel alive and effective. Saturn in your sixth house warns you to be careful of over doing things and of how you handle some colleagues.

LIBRA
SEPTEMBER 24 TO OCTOBER 23
The focus at the moment is not likely to be on practical matters but rather in the direction of intimate attachments. Anything to do with your home is also to the fore, so it could be difficult committing yourself fully to work or even certain social events. Your children will be taking up a lot of your time as they drive you insane with their needs or demands. You need time to yourself so why not take a long stroll!
SCORPIO
OCTOBER 24 TO NOVEMBER 22
Engaging in heartfelt discussions with family members and your life partner is something that comes as second nature to you. So be certain to keep the lines of communication wide open. You and your lover may be resolving some of your problems and the reconciliation is likely to lead to an outburst of sheer passion. However, there are likely to be some major problems at work to deal with.
SAGITTARIUS
NOVEMBER 23 TO DECEMBER 21
What is highlighted at the moment is your marked ability to communicate your ideas and opinions to anyone who is willing to listen. Confidence remains high, even if you are occasionally shaking in your shoes when confronted by anyone you see as being very important. With so many planets being in your third house it is an ideal time to explore new neighbourhoods and to take an interest in spiritual matters.
CAPRICORN
DECEMBER 22 TO JANUARY 20
The major focus is on your fi nancial affairs and thankfully your prospects take an upturn. The next month will see an improvement in your economic security. It may be that you need to lay down plans to ensure maximum profit. Don’t expect swift returns but actions taken now stand you in good stead for the future. Also there may be a few issues to sort out with bosses or people in places of authority.
AQUARIUS
JANUARY 21 TO FEBRUARY 19
Success should now be there for the taking as a direct result of your own efforts. You have the ability to get major initiatives to go your way, and to persuade colleagues and friends to help you out. Life may be frantic during the next few weeks, but it will also be very interesting. However, you will need to be careful in the way that you handle loved ones or your partner as major issues will need resolving.
PISCES
FEBRUARY 20 TO MARCH 20
Your moods are switching from being intensely romantic and loving to strangely distant and detached. Your partner won’t be able to understand you at all and this is not surprising because you honestly can’t really understand yourself. There is a need for rest, relaxation and to take better care of your health and that of loved ones as a connection with doctors or hospitals is likely. Allow time for stress to melt away!

Why breast is best ow many people out there actually understand why “Breast is Best”? I could write pages about how breastfeeding is the best nutritionally and emotionally, and how it will have health benefits throughout a baby’s entire life, but this week I want to focus on how important it is to get the fi rst breastfeed right to ensure success! My advice is that if you are planning on breastfeeding your baby, then do some research during pregnancy about what to expect from yourself and your baby after birth, learn about the correct attachment to the breast to prevent any nipple damage, focus on the multitudes of positive things that come through breastfeeding and be committed to your decision to do it. Make an appointment with a midwife or a lactation consultant to learn all you can antenatally and organise for a midwife to help you with the fi rst feed as soon after birth as possible. If all mums were given the correct advice and support from the start, more women would be able to naturally and lovingly nourish their baby. To encourage breastfeeding immediately after birth, the mother and baby should be placed in contact through skin to skin. You can request to do this even after a caesarean! During a natural birth a baby can be birthed up onto the mothers stomach and chest and remain

Myths of the six-pack there usually until the baby shows cues for the fi rst feed. Skin to skin is an amazing thing to do with your newborn – not only is it instinctual, but it maintains baby’s temperature, regulates baby’s heart rate and breathing pattern and stabilises their blood sugar level. Not only that, skin to skin contact immediately after birth allows the baby to be colonised by the same bacteria as the mother. Th is, plus breastfeeding, are thought to be important in the prevention of allergic diseases. Studies have shown that babies who breastfeed in the fi rst hour after birth are more likely to successfully continue breastfeeding. Th is fi rst hour or so after birth is so special because this precious newborn will be in a state of quiet alertness, which is optimal behaviour for interaction and connection with their mother. The baby is very attentive, looking for their mother’s eyes, and for the breast. Healthy newborns when placed skin to skin on their mother’s stomach can actually make crawling motions toward the breast and often fi nd it with minimal assistance and happily latch on for their fi rst feed!

his week I will answer two questions I’ll guarantee every trainer has been asked. How often do I need to train my abs to get a six-pack? Th is is a two-part answer. The fi rst is that your six-pack has very little to do with how much you train your abs. A visual six pack comes from having a low body fat percentage and the best way to do that is to train your entire body, not just your abs – in fact, it’s nearly impossible to get a six-pack only training your abs. Yes, unbelievably those Ab-Blaster 2000 ads are not entirely accurate! Th is is why we create full body exercise programs. The second is that you don’t need to, nor should you, train your ab muscles every day. The muscles in your core have a higher percentage of slow twitch muscle fibres, meaning you can train them more often than many areas of your body, but they still respond best by having high-intensity training days followed by rest days. There is no good reason to do ab work more than three or four times per week. Another question often asked is: When will I begin to see results? Intensity has a LOT to do with it. While there is no accurate timetable to see results you can generally feel results happening on day one. Are you sore? Are you hungry? Results are coming.
As your body adapts to exercise, you are making internal changes, meaning results are on the way. Your body will resist the change. That’s because its natural defence (law of homeostasis) is to protect the state it’s in, even if that state is unhealthy. Its response to this is to fight it with hormonal releases. How well it adapts varies with every single individual, which is why we are constantly advising people not to look at their scale all the time and, instead, trust measurements and pictures. Some people start seeing results in a few days. Others may take many weeks. And none of that matters because the healthy lifestyle will always win in the end. If you keep at it, train hard, and eat well, your body will, as it has no choice, change over time. Stay consistent for long enough and you will improve, it’s a physiological law. See you next week.

e’ve heard it once, we’ve heard it twice and yet again there is another horror movie based on a true story. The ‘Possession’ featuring Kyra Sedgwick, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Madoison Davenport is based on the terrifying account of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Parents Clyde and Stephanie become alarmed when their

It is ‘shock horror’ when they discover that the box contains a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours the human host. CHATTER ON THE BOX WITH NATHAN TAYLOR D
espite rumours that current affairs show ‘Today Tonight’ had been axed to make way for one-hour news bulletins, the show is returning this Monday, February 11. As mentioned in this column a few weeks ago, ex-Nine newsreader Helen Kapalos will front the rejuvenated program, which will feature more harder hitting stories and less tabloid trash. Channel Seven haven’t scrapped the idea of one-hour News bulletins in the future, saying that the 6pm to 7pm news hour will be more flexible, depending on news events.
A show that was axed during the week that won’t come as a surprise to some is ‘The Price Is Right’. The classic game show, which was revived by Channel Seven mid-last year, was given its marching orders by the network due to poor ratings and viewer feedback. It was clear from the first few months of ‘Price’ that is wasn’t going to work. Cheap and nasty prizes and below average production values were among the contributors for the axe. Seven’s ‘4.30 News’ will continue running for the hour, with ‘Deal or No Deal’ back with new episodes at 5.30pm. It won’t be much longer until we finally find out who the ‘mother’ is on ‘How I Met Your Mother’. CBS in America have
announced the show will be finishing up with a ninth and final season. Writers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have always said they would need a year’s notice to properly tie up their loose ends. “We’re writing this season like it’s the end,” Thomas said at the start of the current season. ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Castle’ fans better reserve that spot on the couch on Sundays because Channel Seven are ready to bring them both back. Season three of ‘Downton Abbey’ will air from this Sunday, February 10 at 8.30pm, with ‘Castle’ also returning that same night from 10pm. Die-hard ‘Survivor’ fans will also be pleased to know that the next season of the hit reality show ‘Survivor Caramoan: Fans v Favourites’ will begin airing on GO!, the very same day as in the US – Thursday, February
14 at 7.30pm. This will be the first time in years that ‘Survivor’ will be fast-tracked from the US, meaning very limited spoilers. The new season sees the return of former contestants including Brandon Hantz and Johnny Cochran. Lastly, music’s biggest night, the 55th Annual Grammy Awards will be broadcast live from Los Angeles this Monday, February 11 at 12pm on FOX8. Hosted by LL Cool J, it will include performances by Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift, Elton John and more. The pending performance by Timberlake will mark the first time he has performed live on TV in seven years. Alternative bands Fun and Mumford & Sons are two of six artists this year who lead with six nominations each and Rihanna and six-time Grammy winner Swift each have three nominations.

More on news and current affairs, longtime Channel 10 program ‘Meet The Press’ will get a new look this year. The program will now be produced as an hour-long show by News Limited with Kathryn Robinson replacing Paul Biongiorno as host. ‘Meet

REKINDLING SPONTANEOUS JAZZ AT THE SLY FOX HOTEL VANESSA WATSON
E
ach Thursday night, the sounds of jazz standards slink out of the doors of the Sly Fox Hotel and drift down Enmore Road. Since January 29, the music of Thelonious Monk, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis and Horace Silver has been heard at the Kiss My Jazz Genre event, a newlyconcocted creative celebration and live music event which aims to draw in musicians for spontaneous ‘sit-ins’ or jam sessions. Under the guise of gifted jazz chanteuse Christina Williams, local musicians, spoken word artists and singers are invited to take part in impromptu pub performances to help celebrate and revive the timeless genre. “It’s composing on the spot,” said Ms Williams, of Croydon Park. “Come with your instruments – I want to build up a community for the musicians. “There’s no meeting place for jazz musos anymore. It used to be the musicians’ club or the journalists’ club,” she said. “We will lose jazz audiences if we don’t connect with them. I just want to generate enough activity with jazz and get the younger people to come in and discover new people. There’s just so many different perceptions of jazz – it’s splintered all over the place. People tend to go into their own little current, which is a shame, I think.” Ms Williams, who has been singing jazz standards for more than 30 years, said musicians in days past developed their

he 2012 NSW Cup champions, the Newtown Jets, will take on the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs in an NRL trial match at Belmore Sports Ground on Sunday. Kickoff is at 5pm for a clash described as the resurrection of a long-standing local rivalry in rugby league. Former Bulldog turned Jets player, 27-yearold Ray Moujalli, said he was very excited about the upcoming trial. “I think it will be physical, I’m defi nitely out to prove myself, I’ll be aiming up,” Moujalli said. Ben Jones, 22, said training had been tough but good in the lead up to the trial and he was ready for the game. “It’s good that Newtown got the game and can play in front of a big crowd,” Jones said. Head coach Greg Matterson said the Bulldogs trial match was a great opportunity for Jets players to make their mark. “They’ll be really tested against a quality opposition,” Matterson said. Club spokesman Glen Dwyer said the Jets players were accepting the challenge with great enthusiasm. “They’re up against pros of an enormously
