community asset, not a high rise residential block,” he said. However Mayor Macri said expressions of interest didn’t mean that a decision had been made and that nothing had been approved, nor would be, without consulting the public. “The reaction from Councillor Phillips is hysteria and nonsense. No one has approved an 11-storey building on this site. The community will have their say on this project when the expression of interest comes back. In relation to the initial four storey building Cr Phillips didn’t support that either. Now he is saying he wants a four-storey building,” Cr Macri said.
Wednesday Night Trivia
G
reens Councillor Max Phillips believes that Marrickville Mayor Vic Macri, has “ambushed” Marrickville Council by endorsing an expression of interest notice for the construction of a multi-storey building on the old Marrickville Hospital site. Cr Phillips said Council initially had accepted a four storey structure to be built on the corner of Livingstone Road and Marrickville Road. “The resolution of Council from December 2012 clearly specified that any building on the corner
block could be no higher than four storeys and open space must face Marrickville Road,” he said. However, the expression of interest, that Council has put out to developers, is unclear on the height restrictions. He said that technically, Council had allowed, under the Local Environment Plan, for the building site to achieve a maximum height of 32 metres. Th is height would allow 11 storeys to be built. “If the councillors weren’t serious about maximising the 32 metres, why would they seek to put the plan to tender for expression of interest from developers? Is August 31 the magic date?
K
evin Rudd needs to call an election soon – for his own sake. I know I originally predicted an October election but there is clearly an August 31 strategy at play. He’s moved to an early ETS, nailed down the internal Labor Party reforms, put forward a PNG policy to stop asylum seekers and he’s signed up Catholic and Independent schools to the Better Schools Plan. That is what you call ‘clearing the decks’ to make way for an election. Kevin Rudd’s ego will be telling him to go later rather than sooner – but his advisors are telling him to go now. The paint is starting to come off and for the fi rst time since returning as PM he’s become defensive and just a little bit tetchy with probing journalists. Calling one a ‘naysayer’ for daring to ask about the success (or not) of the PNG plan. Kevin Rudd has managed to lead most political news stories for the last few weeks – he generates good pictures. Whether it be in a hard hat surrounded by high-visibility vests, screaming school children or adoring Labor lovers in a shopping mall near you – Kevin Rudd wins the picture war. But Mr Rudd is flooding the news cycle with announcements and so far there’s been no time for his promises to be
Under pressure to call an election: Kevin Rudd.
And it’s why Kevin Rudd bristles at the public criticism. He knows if it fails, he can kiss his re-election chances goodbye.

he threat of losing the electoral boundary name of Marrickville to its neighbouring suburb of Summer Hill has one of Marrickville’s staunchest supporters, Cr Morris Hanna, seeing red. Electoral District Commissioners have proposed alterations be made for the 2013 NSW State Districts Redistribution. It shows a proposal that the ‘Marrickville’ district and the southern part of the ‘Sydney’ district be transformed into two districts, one new and one renamed. The new district will be called ‘Newtown’ which comprises the suburbs of Petersham, Stanmore, Enmore, Newtown, Everleigh, Darlington, Camperdown, Chippendale and Surry
Hills. The proposed changes are for the electoral boundaries at Marrickville to be changed to Summer Hill which includes Marrickville, Lewisham, Dulwich Hill, Summer Hill, Ashfield, Haberfield and Ashbury. However Marrickville Councillor Morris Hanna said there wasn’t a logical reason anyone would change the name of an electoral boundary that has so much history. “The name Marrickville has a long and well established history dating back to 1894,” he said. He said the Chamber of Commerce would strongly object to the proposal of the name change. “We believe in the name of Marrickville because the name has been around for a long time,” he said.
Member for Marrickville Carmel Tebbutt agreed about the historical significance of changing the name. “Whilst the redistribution of boundary name changes won’t be released until later in the year, it would be a shame to have a replacement of boundary name when it has been the electorate of Marrickville since 1894,” she said. Councillor Sam Iskandar a long time resident of the Marrickville municipality said the impact of the name change would have social implications. “Summer Hill is not as geographically diverse as Marrickville. One needs to consider the institutions associated with the area. What about the names of schools such as Marrickville primary and high schools? Th is is about demolishing the name of a municipality that has a long association with history.”

tested. His media strategy is also becoming transparent – he will conduct almost daily media conferences but takes only a small number of questions. Many of his answers include a buck pass to the relevant minister. There’s no doubt that within the Coalition there’s frustration at Mr Abbott’s lack of agility in responding to the Rudd machine. Any complacency in the Coalition is gone. Queensland is the big concern for the conservatives. Theresa Gambaro’s seat of Brisbane is one it is attempting to sandbag – and one that Labor could gain. Dawson and Herbert, further north, are also seats that the Liberals fear they will lose – it might explain Tony Abbott’s week of travelling the Bruce Highway pledging billions. But there is optimism in other parts of the country that didn’t exist when Julia Gillard was still in charge. Liberal sources say they believe they could pick up seats in South Australia due to one issue. Boats. The asylum seeker crisis is not just a “western Sydney” problem, as our politicians often pigeon-hole it. It is a nation-wide concern. That is why the implementation of the so-called PNG solution is so important.

Nurses strike in desperation to have ratios improved BASIL NAIMET
state-wide nurses and midwives strike went ahead on Wednesday to protest against the O’Farrell Government’s failure to provide guaranteed, safe nurse to patient staffi ng levels in public hospitals across the state. Over 180 public hospitals and community health services staff took part in the protest, which saw members of the NSW Nurses and Midwives Association (NSWNMA) gather at Sydney’s Olympic Park for a special general meeting. The Association’s General Secretary Brett Holmes said the fi rst round of enforceable, minimum nurse-to-patient ratios were introduced into the general medical surgical wards in most NSW hospitals as part of the 2010-11 award. It was negotiated between the NSWNMA and the former Labor Government. “In this second round the NSWNMA wants the O’Farrell Government to build on this landmark staffi ng reform by extending the ratios of guaranteed minimum staffi ng to more clinical units, including emergency departments, he said. The association is seeking one nurse to four patients in general medical, surgical and acute inpatient mental health wards in every hospital. They are also asking for one nurse per three children in general children’s wards, one nurse to three patients in emergency departments and one nurse per patient in intensive care units,

including neo-natal units. The Association says it is also necessary to set a maximum of four hours of patient contact time per nurse in community health services, including most community mental health services. NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner said she respected and valued the
commitment and care of nurses and midwives. “We have exceeded our promise to increase frontline nursing staff across NSW, she said. She said more than 4,000 extra nurses and midwives were recruited since the Liberal party was elected to office. 147ICDCON

Council trials free wifi spots Marrickville’s bid to improve connectivity in public spaces and local parks BASIL NAIMET
fter lobbying Marrickville Council for several years for free wifi a majority vote at a recent council meeting has supported a trial in public places and parks. The trial will be run for three years and be implemented in two months. Greens Councillor Sylvie Ellsmore said it was pleasing the Council had agreed to run with the trial given that the Greens had sought to have it installed several years ago in places with high pedestrian use. “The Greens had identified several models for solar powered internet hubs which would work in our local area… we knew that the technology was available, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable,” Cr Ellsmore said. Initial reports showed a number of models that were too expensive. The Greens sought to fi nd more cost effective options. A report received by Council earlier this month had identified that several companies were able to deliver hotspots with a 30 metre to 50 metre range at a price of $3,500 per site, with an option to becoming solar powered. Fellow Greens Councillor Melissa Brooks said free wifi for Sydneysiders was well overdue. “Sydney is one of the few international capitals that doesn’t have free wifi in our main public spaces,” she said. Cr Ellsmore said free wifi was something simple that councils could do

wimming in the Cooks River may soon become a reality with Marrickville Council acknowledging the potential for it to become a ‘living’ river once more. Serious consideration is being given to the possibility of Kendrick Park in Marrickville as an access point for the public to swim in the river – with the Council getting behind the initiative in collaboration with the Cooks River Valley Association (CRVA). CRVA president, John Butcher, has been leading the charge for Kendrick Park to become a place where the public can enjoy the waterways; not just for boats as is the case now, but for people to be able to swim in the once pristine waters. “All of the facilities here are set up. There are barbecues, seating areas that families can enjoy. There is a ramp that boats can go down, steps that people can use to enter the water,” he said. The river was popular for public swimming in the early twentieth century but that is no longer the case. “People used to swim in the water before, why can’t people do it now,” Mr Butcher asked. Mr Butcher acknowledged that whilst there was still a lot of work to be done with funding the removal of impediments and foreign matter from the river, the Council was working to create a ‘living’ river. “We’ve put proposals forward to the State government, now we just need them, along with the Federal Government, to be on the same page,” Mr Butcher said. The vehicle continued along Victoria Road, before leaving the roadway and collided with a tree. The 36-year-old man died at the scene. A crime scene was established and officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit attended. One scheme. One focus on individuals. One commitment to lifelong support. From 1 July, Australia’s current support system for people living with disability is being progressively replaced with DisabilityCare Australia. This new scheme will help provide a better quality of life for Australians with a significant and permanent disability, and for their families and carers too. What’s new about DisabilityCare Australia? DisabilityCare Australia is a new way of funding personalised support for people with disability. As well as looking at a person’s immediate needs, it will take a lifelong approach and enable people with disability to have choice and control over their supports. It will focus on early intervention, recognising that timely support can minimise the impact of a disability on individuals, families and carers. Assistance will be provided at the right time, rather than only once people reach crisis. Who is eligible? DisabilityCare Australia will help people who have a significant and permanent disability and who need assistance with everyday activities. This includes people whose disabilities are attributed to intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, or physical impairment, or a psychiatric condition. Will I lose my current support? No. Your current arrangements will stay in place until you have met DisabilityCare Australia to discuss your needs.

When does it all begin? DisabilityCare Australia is being rolled out in stages because it is a big change to the current system.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services Michael Gallacher has announced an $850,000 rollout of new global positioning technology for all Fire and Rescue NSW fi re engines, which will deliver even faster emergency response times. “FRNSW has become the fi rst Australian fi re service to harness this advanced automatic vehicle location – or AVL – technology in a widespread manner,” Minister Gallacher said. “Th is system uses real-time satellite tracking and the Telstra 3G network to identify the location of every FRNSW emergency response vehicle. “Th is information is displayed in real time on FRNSW’s computer-aided dispatch system at its two communication centres in Sydney and Newcastle, ensuring that once an emergency call is received the closest fi re engine is automatically selected and dispatched to the scene.” The new technology has been installed in 70 per cent of FRNSW’s response vehicles in the Greater Sydney Area, with the rest to be installed soon.
New services Marrickville Council’s Library and History Services has added the ‘online newsstand’ Zinio to its list of digital services for the local community. This weekend hundreds will help plant trees at Wave Rock on Cooks River BASIL NAIMET
t’s that time of year again when those with green fi ngers come out to play! Last year’s National Tree Day was a success with children aged from six to 11-years from Scout groups in Dulwich Hill and Marrickville planting more than 650 native trees in two and a half hours. Th is year Marrickville Council want an even bigger turn-out on Sunday, July 28 at Marrickville Golf Club’s Wave Rock behind the Clubhouse adjacent to the river. Mayor, Vic Macri said he would like a big turn-out from local residents. “The revegetation planting day will be a fun and healthy way to be outdoors while doing something positive for the environment,” he said. Adding greenery to the area will not only promote tranquillity, but will enhance wildlife habitats around the Cooks River, and get community groups involved. “Th is area has fantastic potential because of the possibility of creating a wildlife corridor that connects the Cooks River with the GreenWay… it’s also an opportunity to build on community action already being undertaken by local groups Landcare and Mudcrabs,” Cr Macri said. After the National Tree Day on Sunday, Wave Rock will link to the adjacent extension area and other revegetated areas including: Cooks River corridor, Marrickville Landcare site, Beauchamp Street sandstone escarpment and the upcoming Bruce Street rain garden. 700 plants will be planted on the day. he NSW Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (GLRL) are celebrating amendments made to the Sex Discrimination Act that will provide protection for those who are marginalised because of their sexuality. The amendments to the Sexual Discrimination Act (1984) will effectively mean gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex people now enjoy added protections in Federal antidiscrimination law. Those who see themselves as discriminated against because of their sexual orientation will soon be able to lodge an application with the Australian Human Rights Commission. The new legislation covers examples of discrimination such as when applying for a rental property, enrolling children in a state school, or applying for a promotion in many workplaces. The amendments also go to the heart of the aged care services. Religious exceptions will also be removed for Commonwealth funded aged care providers.

In New South Wales the amendments mean that bisexual people and intersex people are now protected by antidiscrimination law. In the past this has not been the case. We take our education system for granted but why not say thanks to your teacher?
Education Week: Hands up if you want to celebrate school
C
elebrating students to staff, teachers and parents, Education Week is being held between Monday, July 29 and Friday, August 2. Th is annual event recognises the great achievements that happen in the New South Wales school system, and at schools across the Marrickville LGA. Th is year, schools in the local area are being asked to “celebrate their stories by documenting their proudest moments and sharing those on websites, at assemblies, and at other gatherings of families and community members.
All schools have great memories, whether it be students who have gone on to high profi le careers, or achieved greatness in their chosen fields. When our kids go to school each day, we sometimes take the education they get for granted, but the great work being done in NSW schools by teachers should be recognised, and Education Week 2013 gives everyone an opportunity to do so. Even if it’s just sending a nice note to school to thank your kids’ teachers, it’s nice to recognise the work they do and the importance of their work in our children’s lives.

The whole story on fibre e all know that stress isn’t good for our health. So what if we are stressing about getting healthy? Is it worth it? I spoke to a patient who was so caught up getting her diet perfect and counting fibre she may have been doing more harm than good. Elizabeth Walling from Livingthenourishedlife.com sums it up well:
W
Everyone knows that following a diet plan is way healthier, right? Wrong! Diet plans tell you what to eat, how to eat, when to eat, and especially what NOT to eat. Diet plans are always centred around restricting – whether it’s fat, carbs, animal foods, starch, or just calories in general. The restriction mentality is stressful and almost always backfi res. Restriction tells you that your body only wants the “wrong” things, so you have to listen to a plan instead of listening to your body. Th is is just not true! Once you’ve taken a step back from the restriction mentality, what your body really wants starts to become a lot clearer. But you have to be willing to step outside of the “plan” fi rst. As for eating lots of fibre: Yes, I know that fibre is the darling of the health industry. We’re told that fibre is like little brooms that “sweep” away all the icky stuff hanging around in our digestive tract. It’s a nice analogy, but it isn’t the whole story. Fibre is packaged with phytic acid and

oxalates, both of which can prevent the absorption of important minerals like magnesium, calcium and zinc. Fibre also hangs around your gut and feeds the bacteria there, and not just the good kind. If you already have an imbalance of pathogenic gut flora, fibre can literally feed the problem and just make it worse. So if you already tend to have digestive issues, eating a lot of fibre (and especially forcing a bunch of fibre supplements down your throat) may not be such a good idea. Now, fibre’s not all bad; it can also help beneficial bacteria produce healing short-chain fatty acids like butyric acid. I’m not advocating extremes, trust me, but just keep an eye on how your body reacts to fibrous foods; you may benefit from cutting back on your fibre intake.
T
his week we have part two from Susan at Zest Nutrition:
So when it comes to “sometimes” food for example kids and party food, what is a caring and concerned parent to do? Your role as a parent is paramount to ensuring your child’s good nutritional health. The best things you can do are: • Ensure you have a routine of regular and predictable eating at home. If you need a guide for this have a look at the meal times your childcare offers. Small children will need to be offered a meal/ snack every few hours. • Make a variety of foods available to your child: vegetables, meats, dairy, fruits, nuts, legumes and grain foods. Include the “sometimes” foods occasionally. Th is teaches your child that there are foods we eat every day and foods we have sometimes. You are in charge of the food that is served at meals and snacks. • Talk to your child about how amazing their body is, and all the incredible things it can do. • Allow your child to eat to their appetite, talk to them about what hungry and full feels like. Also help them relate other feelings
Elisha is a registered nurse and midwife who has years of experience working in emergency departments, general wards and maternity wards
and sensations in their body to eating or hunger. For example if they tend to get a bit cranky or silly when they’re hungry help them to notice how much better they feel after they’ve eaten. If they complain about a sore tummy help them work out if maybe they need to go to the toilet, or perhaps they’re hungry or even too full. It’s important for them to learn that if they don’t eat they will get hungry, so even if you think they haven’t had enough, allow them to learn this for themselves. • Allow your child to see you enjoying foods of all kinds. Be joyful about eating and let them hear you talk about the sensory aspects of the food for example texture, aroma, flavour and temperature. • Be careful to be positive and respectful when talking about your own body, children learn so much from the adults. If you need help with this, a psychologist specialising in body image would be a great starting point. • If you feel you need some help with the eating dynamics in your family, seek assistance from an accredited practising dietitian experienced in family feeding.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS
A
blockbuster is coming to the Inner West on Sunday, August 4 as Wests Ashfield Leagues Club hosts the final of the Australasian region’s ‘Global Battle of the Bands’. 18 finalists have made their way through heats and regional finals and are coming together to blast their way through a 10 minute set, each vying to win the top honours. The winner will be crowned the Australasian champion and will travel to Thailand in December to compete against around 30 international acts. The winner there will have the impressive title of ‘Best New Band in the World’. Bands competing are coming from all cities and regions in Australia and New Zealand. From Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Cairns, Geelong, Auckland and Wellington. Newcastle band The Crawford Brothers were first place winners in the NSW Regional Final. They said winning the
regional finals was a thrill but this occasion will be bigger. “Winning the Regional final of GBOB was amazing and it really gave us a lot of confidence to keep pushing forward and follow the direction our music is going in… it really has motivated us as a group, to up our performance in the final.” The other NSW band is New Black Shades also from Newcastle. With a coastal blues, rock, pop, and all round Aussie summer sound, this band is also taking their opportunity with both hands. “We are super pumped for the GBOB Australasian final and so are our loyal supporters who we love very much,” they said. If you love your music live, you have to get along to Wests Ashfield Leagues Club to watch some of Australia’s best new bands battle it out against overseas acts in the Global Battle of the Bands, Sunday August 4 from 2pm till 7.30pm. Tickets are $20. All ages welcome.
BIG HAIR, BIG SHOW! A
llow yourself to take a step into the past and enjoy the colourful, retro music and heart-warming plotline of ‘Hairspray’. The beloved musical will be coming to Parramatta’s Riverside Theatre for a season from Friday, July 26 to Saturday, August 10. Known as one of the most popular musicals, ‘Hairspray’ is set in 1962 during an era of social and political change – the restrictions and prejudices of the 1950’s are on their way out and young people are beginning to embrace new ways of thinking. Baltimore teenager Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and a heart of gold, is just a regular girl caught up in the era and who has a passion for dancing. When Tracy wins a coveted spot on a TV dance program ‘The Corny Collins Show’, she goes from being an outsider to a renowned celebrity among her peers. The quirky, outgoing and trendsetting teen has to face off against the TV show’s reigning narrow-minded princess, deal with prejudice and racism shown towards her friends and also try to win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin. Featuring an all-star Australian cast, ‘Hairspray’ is bound to be the feel-good show of the year, with veteran entertainment legend Jon English taking the fabulous role of Edna Turnblad. English has a wide and distinguished history in entertainment, starring in musicals, drama and comedy shows, releasing 15 albums and writing scores and music for film and television series.
Many audience members may recognise him from his role as Judas in the original production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ and his Logie winning performance as Jonathon Garret in the acclaimed television mini-series ‘Against the Wind’. Joining English on stage is Helpmann Award nominated actor Wayne Scott Kermond, who has previously appeared in ‘Singin’ In The Rain’ and ‘Hot Shoe Shuffle’, and Cle Morgan who reprises her role as Motormouth Maybelle after a recent national tour of ‘Hairspray’. Finally, talented and fresh-faced newcomer Jessica Rookeward steals the spotlight as the lovable, relatable Tracy Turnblad who stands her ground and dances her way to the top. ‘Hairspray’ will show at the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta from Friday, July 26 to Saturday, August 10. Tickets range from $25 to $49. For bookings call 8839 3399.

I
f you have missed out on getting tickets to see Bernard Fanning in concert at the Enmore Theatre this August, never fear. We bring you the next best thing... a one-on-one interview with the former Powderfinger frontman... 1. Congratulations on the #1 debut for ‘Departures’. You’ve now had six albums debut at #1 across your career, which is an amazing achievement. Were you just as excited about this one? If you mean as equally unexcited as always then yes certainly. To be honest, I find most of the stuff where musicians and artists are ranked against each other, to be a bit irrelevant. Don’t get me wrong I am happy that people buy my records, but I honestly don’t mind if more of them buy a Pseudo Echo record in any given week. 2. You said from the start you had no interest in making ‘Tea & Sympathy 2’ and that the album would take a few listens. Given that, you must be pleased – and I guess relieved – with how it has been received? Yeah I am pleased with how it has been received. I think overall there has been pretty constructive criticism and in most cases a pretty positive response. I realise that for some fans that mentality of wanting to change things and broaden my musical ideas, is not really what they are after. But I wouldn’t be able to sleep straight if I ended up making records based on anything other than what I wanted to hear. The way I look at it now, you know six months after finishing making it, is that
there are things that I could have done better but I suppose that is always going to be the case. 3. Has it been liberating to work as a solo artist rather than within the confines of a multi-headed band? Yeah in some ways I suppose it has. There is no-one else to please or consider in terms of what sort of sounds you are going for... For me that was the main reason I wanted out of the band, because I wanted to be able to make decisions for myself and my family, without having to put them to a committee. 4. The songs for the album were written in Madrid (Bernard’s wife is Spanish and they recently lived there for 18 months). What’s the music scene like over there and has living and writing there influenced your music? I didn’t really see many bands over in Madrid, except for flamenco stuff, which was great. Actually I did see Wilco which was incredible. They are a revelation that band. I don’t know if where you are has much influence on what you are writing, unless you are consciously trying to make it so. I certainly wasn’t trying to shoe horn any Spanish influence into my songs. I just went about my business how I usually do, which is to sit down and apply myself and chip away at songs until I think they are ready. 5. You have said that these were the hardest vocal sessions you’ve ever done
Entertainment
BERNARD FANNING’S TALE OF DEPARTURE in producing an album. Mainly it was that there were tonnes of banks of vocals that had to be pieced together. When I made the demos the songs were coming together over a matter of weeks at a time so it was a more gradual process but when I was doing it with Joe (Chiccarelli – US producer) it was pretty much a song altogether in one block. One song ‘Call You Home’ had about 25 vocal tracks on it so it kind of adds up when you are doing it again and again. 6. The title track ‘Departures – Blue Toowong Skies’ is a deeply personal song about the death of your brother. Did you set out wanting to write something about him or did the song just happen without real thought? No I never really meant for that to be the style of song that ended up on the album, but that song just kind of demanded it. It fell out one day… very quickly when compared to the other songs on the record. The song was actually more about my Dad and the area Toowong where we all grew up. 7. Are you excited about taking some of these new sounds on to the road? How are rehearsals going and what can fans expect at the live shows? Rehearsals have been great. I have a newish band with a couple of guys from the Tea and Sympathy stuff and a couple of new guys as well. Most of the newer stuff is pretty rhythm heavy, so I was looking for a band that was a little bit more groove driven.
I am actually surprised at how well the two albums have blended side by side despite the fact that they sound very different. I think that the nature of both albums is that there are lots of light and shade moments, so that is definitely something that we work towards live as well – having pretty dramatic dynamics of both power and beauty.

CHATTER ON THE BOX WITH NATHAN TAYLOR ‘
Glee’ creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed the show will go on despite the tragic death of its main star Cory Monteith a fortnight ago. Murphy also confirmed a tribute episode to Monteith will air celebrating the life and times of his character Finn Hudson. ‘Big Brother’ returns to our screens this Monday with confirmation there will also be a Saturday show throughout the first four weeks of the season. The new show called ‘Saturday Showdown’ will be similar to the old ‘Friday Night Games’ back when ‘BB’ was on Ten many years ago. Shelly Craft will host the new show with commentary from Mike Goldman and 2012 finalist Michael. Channel Nine has announced a new dating series to air in 2014, ‘When Loves
Come To Town’. The new series will feature 12 single city girls who have been unlucky in love and are heading to the furthest corners of Australia in order to find ‘the one’. They’ll meet the two most eligible bachelors in several towns around the country. They will date the guys and learn about their lives, passions and the unique connection they have with their local community. The girls will meet the bachelors’ friends and families, and spend time in what could be their new home. Ultimately, they must decide whether to stay in town and pursue a relationship, or try to find love in the next town. Check out audition information at lovetown. castasugar.com. Speaking of dating shows, the first Australian version of ‘The Bachelor’ has a host and it’s none other than Osher
Günsberg. Who the hell is that you’re probably thinking? Well, it’s none other than former ‘Australian Idol’ host Andrew G, who has gone back to using his birth name of Osher. Interesting. See what living in trendy Los Angeles does to you after a while?
Ten’s Big Bash commentary team is getting stronger with each announcement. The latest big names to join Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist include Damien Fleming, Mark Waugh and former West Indian cricket Sir Viv Richards. The Big Bash begins in December.
Channel Ten have finally announced their line-up and title for their new breakfast television show. It’s simply called ‘Wake Up’ and it will feature Natarsha Belling, Natasha Exelby and James Mathison. ‘Wake Up’ will be broadcast from Queenscliff Surf Club at Manly Beach with former ‘Seven News’ weather girl, Nuala Hafner, reading the news from a Melbourne studio. The new Adam Boland (‘Sunrise’, ‘The Morning Show’) produced program is definitely going for a younger feel compared to ‘Sunrise’ and ‘Today’.
The ‘How I Met Your Mother’ episode where we finally meet the mother will air on Channel Seven this Tuesday, July 30. Don’t miss it! Lastly, Foxtel’s amazing ‘Go’ app is now available across additional devices including select Samsung Android tablets and smartphones as well as PC and Mac computers. The Foxtel Go app allows subscribers to view up to 59 live channels and over 50 channels for on demand catch up viewing, as per their packages.
