ANU RISES TO SOUL QUEEN’S CHALLENGE CASSANDRA O'CONNOR ca tches up with Chri stine A nu as s he ju ggles plans for an originals album, tours her Aretha Franklin tribute show, being a mother of two and an Indigenous spokesperson...

P

op singer, actress, dancer, Indigenous spokeswoman, charity ambassador and single mother of two. Christine Anu, the angelic voice of Australian anthem ‘My Island Home’, wears many “hats”. And she is feeling a little like a mad hatter as she embarks on the second leg of her 2013 Rewind Tour, which comes to the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, June 15. ‘Rewind – The Aretha Franklin Songbook’ is her highly successful album that was released last year, and the tour builds on the album’s popularity, giving audiences an original and emotionally-charged take on the Queen of Soul’s classics. Anu, who has been dappling in all shades of the arts, said that the decision to create a tribute to Franklin was rather simple. “I was doing a lot of musical theatre and plays for the last three years and I just got the itch to get back up on stage again, wearing my singing hat,” she said. “We were throwing around ideas about what show we could put out on the road. There is the resurgence of shows and artists from by-gone eras but Aretha Franklin’s name came up and it seemed like the right time to do it.” Anu hit the recording studios and produced ‘Rewind’, an album that conjures soulful interpretations of Franklin’s most memorable songs including ‘Respect’, ‘A Natural Woman’ as well as ‘Chain of Fools’, ‘Today I Sing The Blues’ and many other unforgettable, classic melodies. But filling the shoes of one of the world’s most popular, versatile and skillful performers is no mean feat – a challenge that Anu was

keen to accept. “[It started with] lots of listening, with a lot of terror and intimidation to begin with. I guess those are the things that you get over though as a singer,” she said. “You know I’ve loved the challenge that’s kept me wanting to listen and do more homework a lot. It’s been an organic process of absolute love, I have loved every minute.” Part of the difficulty in performing a Franklin song is capturing the emotion in the lyrics. The Queen of Soul drew much of her inspiration for her performances from her times of hardship and faith in God, however Anu has taken a different approach. “I think the inspiration comes from life, from having lived a bit,” she said. “There’s blood and guts in between the songs and I think that is conveyed in the emotions. “Life, living, having lived life; and if you had said to me five years ago ‘put an Aretha album out’ I don’t think I would have. I wasn’t ready for it and I would have said point blank, ‘there is no way I am doing that’.” Anu’s emotional approach is even reflected in her choice of album title. “Rewind was born out of a bit of nostalgia, a bit of a blast from my past. The word ‘rewind’ was used a lot whenever we as kids wanted to hear a song played over and over again; we would call out ‘rewind, rewind!’” And the live tour is just as soulful, if not more so than the album. “You should always think of doing the album 12 months into the tour because I think that the songs start to evolve and take on their own character and they become more of you as an artist,” she said.

I think the inspiration comes from life, from having lived a bit... “And you should always put out a live album if you have already put an album out." Taking her own advice, Anu has already started recording her tour performances for a live album to accompany 'Rewind' on iTunes. But the best surprise in stall for Anu fans is that she is putting the songwriter hat back on to create an originals album. “Where I have got down-time I have been writing towards an originals album,” she said. Still “finding her legs” in the studio, Anu said it is too early to say what sort of feel her new album will have. “At the moment it is just a huge sounding board, I haven’t been writing for a very long time so... it’s me feeling my way around the studio again.”

And on top of all this, she is still raising her 17-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter. And funding a scholarship for young women in the Australian Girls Choir. And lending her support to the Cathy Freeman Foundation, Salvation Army, Buk Bilong Pikinni charity and more. “Every little bit of time is taken up at the moment!”

Christine Anu brings her Rewind Tour to the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, June 15. The performance starts at 8pm. Tickets are $45 for adults and $40 concession. Visit www.jspac. com.au or call 4723 7600.

PENRITH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

P

enrith Symphony Orchestra are renowned in the local area for bringing fabulous music to audiences and will hold a special concert to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The orchestra will perform Carl Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana’ at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, May 25. This month marks 25 years of spectacular music-making from Penrith Symphony Orchestra, which was founded in 1988 and gave its first concert at the Australian Bicentenary celebrations. In the quarter century that has passed, the award-winning orchestra has established a fantastic reputation and cemented itself as an important part of the performing arts scene in western Sydney. Both professional and gifted amateur musicians have been given the opportunity to shine in the Penrith Symphony Orchestra, which works with conductors and soloists of international standing as well as emerging

Australian artists. Audiences are in for a treat with this month’s anniversary concert, which will feature the beautiful voices of about 120 adults and children, with members from choirs across the Penrith and Blue Mountains area. Families will shine in the upcoming performance, with many couples performing together as well as several family groups. One mother who loves to keep singing all in the family is Kelly Leehy, of Emu Plains, who has been a member of Penrith City Choir for over five years and performs alongside her three children (Flynn, nine, Layla, eight, and Henry, seven). “As a choir member myself, I thoroughly enjoy the experience when we perform with the orchestra,” Mrs Leehy said. “All three children are learning piano and either cello or guitar, and I was really keen for them also to have the fantastic opportunity of singing in a large choral performance like this.” Audiences will also get the chance to hear

a free pre-concert talk by Paul Terracini at 7.20pm, before the event. Penrith Symphony Orchestra will perform ‘Carmina Burana’ at the Joan Sutherland

Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, May 25 at 8pm. Tickets are $45 for adults and $20 for under 25’s. For bookings or more information, call 4723 7600 or visit www.jspac.com.au.

DELLTONES GET BACK TO THEIR ROOTS

T

he Delltones have been entertaining audiences for over half a century and now the Aussie music legends are set to return to their roots on their upcoming tour. The beloved group will be lighting up the stage at the Evan Theatre at Penrith Panthers on Friday, May 31. Led by the charismatic, instantly recognisable Ian ‘Peewee’ Wilson, The Delltones have been a fixture in the Australian music industry since their early days in the 1960’s. Their unique brand of doo wop and rock earned them many admirers, with the band releasing a string of well-known hits over the years including ‘Gee, You’re The Limit’, ‘Get a Little Dirt On Your Hands’, ‘Come A Little Bit Closer’ and ‘Hangin’ Five’. After changes in The Delltones’ earlier years, the line-up has remained stable since the 1990’s with Wilson being joined on stage by Woody Finlayson, Merv Dick and Owen

Booth. The foursome have returned The Delltones to their roots as a four-part harmony band and are promising an entertaining night for fans. “The whole idea of The Delltones show is that unlike others that are trying to relive their early years in a sea of nostalgia and reminiscing, The Delltones will be out there,” Wilson said. “Hopefully we can tease them out of the past and bring them into the here and now with some songs that are aimed at the heart and the feet… we’re hoping that we’ll meet their expectations, those that want a good night out, and fill their hearts with joy and fun.” After a long, successful career in music, Wilson is still keeping busy – he recently penned an autobiography Come A Little Bit Closer and also intends to continue making music for as long as possible. “I’m very, very happy with the way the band’s performing, we don’t have anything to prove anymore, we have an audience out

LAWRENCE AND OWEN UNITE TOURS

C

ountry music fans should prepare for a great night of music when two of Australia’s most talented young artists, Amber Lawrence and Jason Owen, unite for a national tour. The well-known entertainers will be performing together at venues across the country, playing at Rooty Hill RSL on Saturday, June 1. Both Lawrence and Owen are beloved figures in the Australian music industry and were brought together for a tour by their fans and a mutual love of country music. Accompanied by a backing band, the duo will play a two-hour show featuring all their hit songs as well as special duets throughout the concert. The pair have also collaborated in the recording studio with a duet ‘Islands in the Stream’, which is a cover of the classic Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton 1983 hit and was the lead single on Owen’s album, ‘Life Is A Highway’.

Known for being one of the hardest working musicians in the industry, Lawrence has had a string of hits with her 13 single releases each reaching the Top 5 on the radio charts and seven going to Number 1. An avid performer, Lawrence has played at over 400 shows and toured with country music legends Adam Harvey, The McClymonts, Beccy Cole, Melinda Schneider and Lee Kernaghan. She has also received critical acclaim and won the Tamworth ‘Telstra Horizon Award’ at the 2011 Golden Guitars and a nomination in the Female Artist of the Year category at this year’s Golden Guitar awards. She will be joined on stage by Jason Owen who shot to fame as the beloved underdog who came runner-up on television show ‘The X Factor’ in 2012. At the tender age of 19, small-town boy Owen has carved out a lucrative music career for himself after his ‘X Factor’ single ‘Make It Last’ was released last November.

Since then, he has released his debut album ‘Life Is A Highway’, which features covers of a wide range of songs from the world’s greatest artists including John Denver, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson and more. With their impressive voices and hit songs, Amber Lawrence and Jason Owen will light up the stage when they perform in this not-to-be-

GIVEAWAY: MEN IN BLACK ARE BACK

W

ith their iconic looks and beloved songs, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison are remembered as two of the world’s greatest musicians. Now, the timeless tunes of Cash and Orbison will be taken on in ‘The Men in Black Tour’, which will come to the Evan Theatre in Penrith on Saturday, June 15. Talented performer Dean Bourne, who is well-known for his spot-on tribute shows, will step into the shoes of Roy Orbison. In his tribute, he will perform all the catchy hits that catapulted Orbison into the spotlight including ‘Pretty Woman’, ‘Crying’, ‘Dream Baby’, ‘Leah’, ‘Blue Bayou’, ‘Penny Arcade’, ‘Danny Boy’, ‘Only The Lonely’, ‘In Dreams’, ‘Candy Man’, ‘You Got It’, ‘Workin’ For The Man’, ‘Running Scared’ and more. Bourne began performing at the age of 10 and was playing in pubs and clubs while he was still a teenager before creating his own tribute show to Roy Orbison. Gracing the stage alongside Bourne is

Bosco Bosanac, whose rugged looks and gravel voice make him the perfect man to perform the country rock hits of Johnny Cash. Bosanac has enjoyed a successful career that goes back to the 60’s and 70’s when he was a founding member of Aussie surf rock instrumental band The Atlantics. After Cash’s death in 2003, loyal fan Bosanac was saddened yet inspired to keep the country legend’s music alive and began performing his songs at private functions before creating ‘The Johnny Cash Tribute Show’. In his performance, Bosanac takes the audience back in time to a golden age of country rock when he sings hits such as ‘Ring of Fire’, ‘Folsom Prison Blues’, ‘Walk The Line’, ‘Big River’, ‘Ghost Riders in the Sky’, ‘Orange Blossom Special’, ‘Get Rhythm’, ‘A Boy Named Sue’ and ‘Man In Black’. These two performers will leave fans in awe as they take on Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison on stage, creating a nostalgic night of

rock and roll. ‘The Men In Black Tour’ will show at the Evan Theatre, Penrith Panthers on Saturday, June 15 at 8pm. Tickets are $36.50. For bookings or more information, call 4720 5555 or visit www.penrith.panthers.com.au. FYI has two double passes to ‘The Men In Black’ show at Penrith

CONCERT IN LOVING MEMORY

W

hile country music legend Slim Dusty may have passed away 10 years ago, his legacy and music will be celebrated with a special concert next month. A star-studded line up of country artists will unite to perform at the Slim Dusty Birthday Bash at Rooty Hill RSL on Thursday, June 13 – the date that would have been Dusty’s 86th birthday. Major figures from the Australian country music industry will be performing, including Lee Kernaghan, Kasey Chmabers and Shane Nicholson, The McClymonts, Adam Harvey, The Wolfe Brothers and the Adam Eckersley Band. Well-known radio personality Ray Hadley will be the host on the evening. This one-of-a-kind event will not only provide a fabulous night of country music – it is also a charity event to help raise funds for Slim Dusty’s final legacy, The Slim Dusty Centre located in his birthtown of Kempsey. The centre is a special community project,

which has significance for the nation as a living museum. It was designed to display over 60 years of recording, performing and touring by Slim Dusty and also preserve valuable Dusty Family memorabilia collected over the star’s lifetime. This event follows on after a call to make June 13 be named Slim Dusty Day in recognition of the country star’s contribution to Australian music and culture, with a raft of celebrities hopping on board the campaign. Celebrated country musician and 2008 Australian of the Year winner, Lee Kernaghan, who will be performing at the event, said Dusty deserves to be honoured. “In the steps of Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson, Slim Dusty embedded our culture and heritage into history,” he said. “For over half a century Slim touched our hearts and minds through the music he made and the life he lived. “National Slim Dusty Day is a way for all Australians to come together to celebrate our

musical heritage, The King of Country and the ordinary Australians who make our country great.” Undoubtedly Australia’s most prominent and iconic country music singer, Slim Dusty led a legendary life and changed the nation’s music industry with his songs. His relatable lyrics, about the country he

loved and its people, touched the lives of many and made him a true Aussie legend. The Slim Dusty Birthday Bash will be held on Thursday, June 13 at 7.30pm. Tickets are $120 and include a two course dinner and drinks. For bookings or more information, call 9625 5500 or visit www. rootyhillrsl.com.au.

T

he boys of the wolf pack are back on the big screen with the highly anticipated third film of the Hangover franchise. While the previous installments have been based around the lead up to a wedding, the writers of ‘The Hangover Part III’ has shaken things up with an entirely new premise. This time viewers will get to enjoy the wild antics of Phil, Alan and Stu as they go on a road trip all the way to Mexico to take Alan to a psychiatric hospital. But in classic Hangover fashion, the gang manage to get themselves involved in all sorts of trouble along the way and end up having to track down their old friend Mr Chow who is in possession of millions of dollars and has people trying to hunt him down. According to director Todd Phillips, the third Hangover movie was designed to be distinct from the previous two and will provide finality to the series. Fans will also be excited to see familiar faces from Part I and II including Heather Graham. There’s no doubt that this will be a massive hit with audiences.

eleste and Jesse are living the classic fairytale love story – best friends growing up, high school sweethearts, then married in their 20’s. But after six years of wedded bliss, their relationship is starting to sour as the duo drift into different lifestyles, with the career-driven Celeste working hard at her media company while unemployed artist Jesse leads a laidback existence. Frustrated with their marriage, Celeste tells Jesse she wants to separate and they begin dating other people although remain friends. While Jesse is initially heartbroken, he eventually begins seeing Veronica and their new relationship leads Celeste to realise that maybe she isn’t as ready to move on as she thought she was. ‘Celeste and Jesse Forever’ was praised by critics for its smart, genredefying plot and the script. Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg put in fine performances as the lead characters Celeste and Jesse, with believable chemistry that viewers will be able to relate to.

ith their extensive catalogue of catchy, classic rock hits and their wholesome, sunny image, The Beach Boys have concreted their place in music history. But even though the band may have split up, fans young and old got the opportunity to see them in action again last year when Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks united to go on a 50th anniversary tour and create a new studio album ‘That’s Why God Made The Radio’. The tour was the first major concert to include Wilson in over 20 years and was major news across the globe, leaving fans eagerly waiting for a taste of the Beach Boys live on stage. The band traveled to over 70 cities in locations all over the world including the Hollywood Bowl, London’s O2 Arena and Royal Albert Hall. There were also performances at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The glory of the Beach Boys’ comeback is captured on this two-disc album and fans will delight in hearing

all the band’s hits live, including ‘Fun, Fun, Fun’, ‘Barbara Ann’, ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice?’, ‘God Only Knows’ and ‘Surfin’ Safari’. The recordings convey the energy and fun of the band on stage, with a Rolling Stone review of the tour noting the Beach Boys’ string of well-loved hits.

ZEN NOODLE BAR

PLENTY OF HISTORY TO UNBOTTLE IN THESE DROPS by David Ellis

R

iddoch Coonawarra is a company one could easily write a fascinating book or three about, beginning with Scottish-born pioneer John Riddoch, who rode the wool boom of the 1860’s, and 30 years later planted Coonawarra’s first wine grapes in 1891. Along the way he and a brother amassed nearly 50,000ha of prime agricultural land, and amongst other things established the Coonawarra Fruit Colony. The region struggled from 1901, however, and the grapes were used only for brandy and fortified wines until Samuel and David Wynn bought the winery and many Colony vineyards in 1951 and put Coonawarra back on the finewine map. Today Riddoch Coonawarra is owned by the Pinnacle Liquor Group whose ambition it is to see more wine lovers enjoy this unique region – and their recently-released 2010 Merlot is one that will certainly achieve this. Crafted by the Pinnacle winemaking team

and consultants including Coonawarra legend Wayne Stehbens, this is a wine that’s got beautifully intense mulberry and herbal fruits to the forefront, gently-layered spices and fine chocolate in there as well, balanced tannins and fine acidity. At $19.99 it’s rewarding considering its quality, and is a drop to enjoy with tomatobased Italian dishes, or traditional coldweather lamb, pork or veal casseroles. One to note: When early-day European vignerons set fire to piles of winter-time prunings of their grape vines, they found that meats grilled over these fires took on a pleasantly unique flavour – and so they turned their early barbecues into an annual mid-winter festival they called Vinefire. Today the Hunter Valley’s Hungerford Hill is honouring the old tradition with a VINEfire label, one of whose wines is a very more-ish 2012 Chardonnay that’s refreshingly dry and with lovely honeydew and banana flavours. And at $18 it lives up to the vinefire tradition.

oodle lovers will have a new haven in Penrith with the recently opened Zen Noodle Bar, which offers plenty of choice and good value when it comes to your favourite Asian dishes. Conveniently located inside Penrith Panthers, Zen Noodle Bar brings a taste of the Orient to western Sydney – from the lavish red and gold decor to the rich flavours of the food, dining here is an experience that will make you feel like you’re eating in downtown Shanghai. Zen Noodle Bar is the ideal place to bring your friends or family for a night out, with a menu loaded with a range of tasty options that will satisfy even the fussiest diner. The Yum Cha dishes are perfect to be shared as starters, with choices including steamed dumplings, pork buns, prawn rolls and dim sims. The fried sesame prawn rolls are delicious with a crunchy outside covering the soft, tender prawn within, while another popular choice is the vegetarian spring rolls that are crisp and tasty. Both come with a sweet and sour sauce to dip in. Diners are spoiled for choice when ordering a main, with an impressive variety of noodles and rice dishes on offer and pretty much every ingredient and flavour to complement them. As the restaurant’s name suggests, Zen Noodle Bar specialises in noodles of every

kind, from Singapore to Hokkien to Pad Thai. The Wonton Noodle Soup is delicious and filling, with handmade prawn and pork wonton dumplings and egg noodles and fresh greens served in a delectable chicken broth. Unlike many other restaurants, Zen Noodle Bar caters for vegetarians who will love the vegetarian stir fry, which comes in a generous portion of egg noodles tossed with tofu and fresh, crisp greens. After the generously portioned mains, most diners will be after something light and refreshing and the dessert menu is just perfect; with fresh, fruity flavours such as lychee ice cream and passionfruit sorbet. Keeping with the Asian-inspired cuisine, there is also green tea and black sesame flavoured ice cream which makes for a unique, exciting experience for western tastebuds. With its genuine, delicious noodles and extensive menu, Zen Noodle Bar is quickly becoming the hottest restaurant in Penrith and is the perfect place to hang out with friends and enjoy some good food or even take away for a night at home. - Reviewed by Shannon Cochrane Want your restaurant featured in FYI? CHATTER ON THE BOX with Nathan Taylor

veryone’s favourite cringeworthy show ‘Embarrassing Bodies’ is set to get a local version. Ironically titled ‘Embarrassing Bodies Down Under’, the show will feature the likeable Dr Christian Jessen from the hit UK series. If you’ve never seen it before, ‘Embarrassing Bodies’ is a show that tackles obscure medical conditions people are too embarrassed to talk to their doctor about – yet they’re happy to air their issues on national TV… go figure! Foxtel’s Lifestyle YOU is looking for patients to treat in the first Aussie series, apply by emailing bodies@shineaustralia.com. I’ve never been into ‘Doctor Who’ but I

know there are thousands of you out there that are. Well, good news ‘Doctor Who’ is coming back with a brand new series. Matt Smith, who’s played the Doctor since 2010, will be back for the eighth season. It’s hard to believe freaky vampire series ‘True Blood’ has reached six seasons with the latest set to air two hours after the US on Showcase next month. From June 17 the show will air at the strange time of 3.30pm on Mondays with a primetime replay later at 8.30pm. Also set to return is ‘MasterChefAustralia’; it begins on Channel Ten from Monday, June

3 at 7.30pm. 22 brand new contestants will battle out for Australia’s coveted cooking title in the latest series. It will be interesting to see how well this series goes considering the huge success of ‘My Kitchen Rules’ earlier this year. Will people have a cooking show hangover? I think so. Kath and Kim’s return to television didn’t last long with their clip show ‘The Kath and Kim Kountdown’ dumped by Channel Seven after one episode. ‘K&K’ will be replaced this Sunday by ‘Border Security’ and ‘The Force’. I must say I’m loving beyond belief this series of ‘Celebrity Apprentice Australia’.

There’s been some great, fiery moments already and with some outspoken contestants still in I expect plenty more to come. It still lacks the gloss and production values of its American counterpart but it sure makes up for it with some interesting celebrity encounters. ‘The Footy Show’ always seems to get controversial headlines but what happened this week with the whole “ugly baby” Look-ALikes segment was just ridiculous. I just want to say how silly and unnecessary the whole thing was. ‘The Footy Show’ handled it well with their reply, so hopefully the family will get on with it and viewers still get to see some great Look-A-Likes.

BETWEEN THE LIVES By Jessica Shirvington

J

essica Shirvington, the author of internationally bestselling book series Embrace, has written another novel which will strike a tone with young readers. Her new release Between the Lives is a poignant and touching book that will have readers up all night turning the pages in anticipation. The novel’s protagonist is Sabine, a young girl who is facing a serious issue – for as long as she recalls, Sabine has been stuck between worlds and living two lives. Every 24 hours she makes a transition to her ‘other’ life where she herself is exactly the same but everything else is radically different: a different family, different friends, different social life. She jumps between having a sister and not having a sister; having the perfect romantic boyfriend and being single; acting the part of straight-A student to being considered a nohoper delinquent. She never questions the strange double life she leads until one day a glitch between the

two worlds happens when she breaks her arm in one life but is perfectly fine in the other. Thinking about this knowledge leads Sabine to wonder what else might happen and she begins performing risky, radical experiments to push the boundaries in both worlds and try to secure the life she’s always dreamed of. This novel draws on many influences and is part psychological thriller and part romance, making for a finely written drama with a unique, engaging plotline. It is the first standalone novel from author Jessica Shirvington, who is married to former Olympic sprinter Matt Shirvington and lives in Sydney. She has previously written an internationally bestselling urban fantasy series called Embrace that was picked up last year by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin production company to be adapted for a television series. Her latest novel Between the Lives showcases her engaging writing technique and is sure to make readers reflect on the world around them.

TIME SPENT HERE IS JUST PEACHY!

T

he Peachy. All of Penrith knows it is there, most of us probably for very different reasons. It may be because you are a sports fan who watches the State of Origin or the UFC on the big screen. Perhaps you spend time there with the family while the kids enjoy the arcade room. Maybe you just love dancing your backside off on the outdoor dance floor on a Friday night. No matter what it is, all these events are enjoyed with a hearty meal. This is where the Peachtree is trying to outdo itself! In the past two months, the bistro has been taken over by new management. FYI spoke to the new head chef Steve Flay about this and he expressed his delight in the change of feeling within the venue. “Since I have been here, I have noticed it has become much more of a family environment and there has been a noticeable change in the atmosphere,” he said. With 32 years of experience, Steve really knows all about image and atmosphere.

“Mother’s Day went nuts,” he said, with kids everywhere and what could only have been described as a Seafood Platter-palooza. With the younger crowd on a Friday night, followed by a weekend of family events, Flay explained that Penrith Peachtree has had to become a very flexible venue, their menu included. “Penrith is becoming the $10 meal capital, which we provide through our Tradies menu Monday through to Thursday, plus our daily specials. But we can also cater for the higher quality meals for around $25. We have actually increased the quality, yet reduced the price of the old bistro.” Proof of this improvement includes MSA (Meat Standards Australia) on all steaks, the seasonal specials, which will be seen throughout the year, and due to the local suppliers that Peachtree source, the freshness of the food. Check out the menu at their website www. peachtreehotel.com.au or call 02 4731 3444.

WOMEN IN LEAGUE LUNCH DUG DEEP

T

he Penrith Panthers celebrated the incredible women of the game last week at their annual Women in League luncheon at Penrith Stadium. Hundreds of women involved in rugby league locally and regionally attended the function last Thursday, which celebrates the hard work and dedication women give to the game from the grassroots right through to the NRL. The luncheon also acted as a charity function where money was raised for the newly opened Ronald McDonald Family Room at Nepean Hospital. Attendees were treated to an emotional speech heralded as the highlight of the day by McDonalds Penrith licensee Kathryn Garton who spoke of her personal experience of the great work done by Nepean Hospital. Panthers stars and their partners were on hand for the occasion including coach Ivan Cleary, captain Kevin Kingston, Sika Manu, Nigel Plum, Matt Robinson, Clint Newton and Lewis Brown.
