Meet Whihala The Witch, Wickedly Whiting’s wicked mascot who still strikes fear in residents to this day. The story told by other engineers who traveled the area’s rails was that of a strange, haunting woman appearing out of nowhere right before disaster would strike.
It is believed that she is a woman who lived along the lake for so long that she grew to know the nuances of what it foretold of the weather. She died in the water during a rescue of a small child. Many have seen her before a tragedy trying to warn of the danger. More of her story is on the Wickedly Whitng website.
The festival runs Friday 5 - 11p.m. and Saturday 11a.m.11p.m. For more information, visit https://www.wickedlywhiting.com/ or call 219-6590292.
