It’s been a super packed week for us, the kind of crazy busy that actually messes with your mind and you forget to breathe. and I’m going to take you on a stroll throug h the stunning and serene terrains of Canada!
O
f all the places I have ever travelled to, one of the most wonderful countries in terms of beauty and diversity is Canada. It is a country packed with natural beauty, delicious food and people with exceptionally accommodating morals. You can find green trails and waterfalls at the tip of a hat. Every picture you take is a #NoFilter! Canada is a tremendous place to visit in the summertime. My trip to Canada was about a month long and during this time l managed to experience cities like Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. Toronto is the metropolitan city and home to all international activities. It is a city that exudes life. From the busy streets of the charming Kensington Market to the glamorous Dundas Square, Toronto has it all. It has the incredible CN tower approximately 553 meters high! Trust me, standing on the glass floor on a building this high is extremely scary but oddly exhilarating as well. Toronto also has one of the world’s largest and most impressive zoos. While it may seem juvenile and very basic to visit a zoo when travelling to an internationally acclaimed city like Toronto; it is an absolute must.

You must also visit the Casa Loma! It is a castle originally built and then imported to Canada (Yes, you heard me right!) hosting one of the world’s largest musical organs with awe-inspiring gardens and vintage cars. It is also where the first X-Men movie was filmed. If you are an X Men fan like myself, you need to see this place! I also had the fortune of visiting the world’s largest waterfall on Canada Day; the Niagara Falls. Boy, does it live up to its name. With about five rainbows visible at any given time and fresh crystal clear water, it is a sight to marvel over. Because it was Canada Day, there was an hour long session of fireworks like you wouldn’t believe! Ottawa is the capital of Canada and home to one of the most popular Prime Ministers of the world, Justin Trudeau! The Parliament building itself is a spectacular piece of art. They have managed to preserve their history and tradition in all forms, shapes and sizes. It is also where University of Carlton is located. Everything in Ottawa is presidential from its planned roads to the historical buildings.

Montreal is a city that steals your heart and even if you try to resist, you won’t be able to. It is based in the heart of Quebec which is a Frenchdominated Province and as such holds a hint of European culture. It is also home to one of the world’s highest ranked Universities: McGill. As an avid journalism student, I naturally had to visit. The vintage look and feel of the University campus is unparalleled. I also got a chance to visit one of their oldest most famous church, The Notre Dame Church. Let me tell you, it is a vision to behold! Here I also attended the Fan Expo, (in layman’s terms, a geek convention which I happen to love!) where I met Sean Gunn who played Kirk in the one of my favourite and popular TV series, Gilmore Girls. Montreal is a city where you find musicians at almost every corner with spectators dancing to their tunes, it is alive and most importantly very colourful! If you have been to Canada but not visited Montreal, you are truly missing something!

Limbo Lipsticks By EmaanMaqbool @emaanzipants Dear Readers, It’s been a while. I have missed you. The last time I wrote to you summer was at its peak but Fall has finally arrived and the weather is perfect for veranda evenings with cup of tea and your favourite read. This time I thought let’s get a little more focused, or well let me have some fun talking about the things I like to talk about anyway.
Today I write to you about lipsticks. No, nothing crazy like the candy pinks that make our patchy skin even more obvious and as a rule no statussymbol-Mac which I’m not even saying because it’s unevenly unavailable in Pakistan. Open your eyes people and feel your dry lips. If you insist on buying some pretty penny products that aren’t readily available here, Charlotte Tilbury and Channel are definitely better! Anyway, let’s pretend we’re on the same page. Here’s a list of lipsticks for the period of time when it’s neither Summernor Winter. I would like to call this my list of Limbo Lipsticks. Also everything on here is readily available in this country at extremely affordable prices because I feel no shame in owning a Cheap Lipstick or ten!

We can start with my favourite primary color; Red. The Reds never really goout of style, no matter what year or season. Starting with Essence’s 02 All You Need is Red (I wholeheartedly agree). Christine’s 206 Carmin. Moving onto The Pinks, the only problem I have with Sweet Touch lipsticks is that their sweet smell always makes me want to eat them(Also as a warning: lip balm is a good option before application). Sweet Touch’s number 790 is a nice and shiny pink! Here comes the first of many; the all-time-famous Medora 285 SHOCKING pink (who would have guessed?). Next are my personal favorites, The Purples. Can we please just pretend we live under the sea? Etude’s lipstick is even called Aqua Rogue! The number is more like a barcode, but trust me you won’t find such a color elsewhere. Etude’s 008PA. Can’t stay away from Medora for too long we have another shade to go with it:Medora’s 212 Violet! Coming to the end of our list with The Nudes(read: snore!). Starting from light to dark there is; Medora’s 250 Silver Sand(literally like silver sand), Karaja’s 03C, Color Studio’s 129 Funk and Etude’s barcode is 077PA. On a side note, I alwayslike buying lipsticks with names and not just a number, it shows that they were made with more love. Till we meet next!

Flying Rickshaw applies our founders’ hodgepodge medley of urban experiences to our home city, Karachi. All four of us have lived and worked abroad and then chose to return to Karachi and really get to know our city. Our blog takes the lens of international urban culture and applies it to this city. Flying Rickshaw essence is to cater to the urban soul interested in travel, food, spirituality and wellness.
What influenced the start of “Flying Rickshaw” and why the name?
We, Anaam Afridi, Alizay Saeed, Kifah Shah and Raasti Said, felt there was a platform missing to express the culture of any place or city from a Karachi’ites perspective, so we decided to create it ourselves. Anaam originally coined the term Flying Rickshaw but had been sitting on it for about a year. It was perfect for our travel and wellness blog. The name ‘Flying Rickshaw’ takes an iconic local image, and makes it the gateway to the world. We want to make Karachi global!

Team Weekend represent! Maryam rocked the runway in a garden print ghagra choli with a heavy silver tilla work dubatta. Also, we may know her soul as a personified version of the bespeckeled/ bucktoothed geek emoji; it’s pretty obvious that her tall frame and killer looks could give any model in the world a run for her money!
The glowing mama-to-be glided down the runway in a lush purple velvet lehnga and an intricately embellished sleeveless loose kalli kurta. Despite being in the family way, Maheen’s walk was easy breezy, calm, collected and absolutely effortless!
The last lady on the ramp, Natasha closed the show like a pro in a tonal, shades-of-blue, velvet number. She looked absolutely radiant in these deep ocean hues and made it evident that velvet is an everrrrrlasting trend; our goals for winter weddings are pretty much all set!

6L, Gulberg II. Lahore Veranda Bistro is one of the most familiar names in Lahore’s multi-cuisine fine-dining experience and recently introduced a revamped A’ La Carte menu. Team Weekend went in to dig in on some of the best new dishes it has to offer.For starters we had the Wild Mushroom Soup from the existing menu (oldie but a goodie!) The soup was light and creamy in just the right consistency without overdoing on seasoning. The three main dishes we ordered from the new menu were the Mushroom Creamy Pasta, Chili Garlic Spaghetti and the Chicken Parmigiana. While all three were primarily poultry dishes, with two cooked in a similar white sauce base, each dish had a decidedly different taste. The Mushroom Creamy Pasta, much like Veranda’s cream-based Mushroom soup, was light and smooth. White sauce may be the most basic sauce to work with but if not gently simmered and brought to the boil, it develops a slapdash thick and lumpy texture that is extremely unappetizing. A skillfully
done white sauce can make or break any dish, and Veranda passes that test in flying colours. The Chicken Parmigiana, again cooked in a white sauce base, had a distinct flavor of oregano and other herbs of the mint family with grilled to precision chicken breast meat. The Chili Garlic Spaghetti proved true to its name with a super spicy red sauce and spaghetti sprinkled with dry red chilies (we saved this one for next day lunch and the spaghetti remained fresh and springy even after the deadly whizz of the microwave). To cool off the spice we ordered our all-timefavourite classic drink, Pina Colada which again just the right blend of zingy pineapple juice and coconut milk. For afters we had assorted desserts from the buffet menu and we must say, the mini ramekins alone have us besotted. Our favourite of the lot has to be the Tiramisu with just the right amount of a bitter coffee aftertaste and of course, Veranda’s famed Chocolate Soup; a warm little bowl of velvety rich chocolate (need we say more?)
