Not to mention, she has exquisite taste, I love that she’s super old school. The jewellery was my mother, Rehana Majid Nizami’s. Something she had always kept for me to wear the day I got married. I only wish she had seen me in it.

The Nikah decor was one of the most magical parts of the day, and it was all because of Sundus Mustafa from Whimsical Parties. I can’t thank her enough for all of her attention and creativity. It was more than I had imagined it would be. We cooked at home for all our guests, and it was such a joy to be able to serve our home cooked specialties for lunch. My wonderful wonderful family and friends helped me put every part of the wedding together, and starting with the beautiful Nikah function, none of this would have been possible without their help.
weekend | lifestyle On the mehndi day I wore a plain yellow jora, and a simple yellow gota dupatta from Ali Xeeshan. And no makeup! It was a great day to take a break from being dressed up, and also so that the Baraat day outfit would really shine. No jewellery, just kaanch bangals and flower gajras. Sundus Mustafa of Whimsical Parties did the mehndi day decor also. I got lots of panels painted from Royal Park myself, and got little flags from Urdu Bazaar, and sourced a whole lot of decorations to make it look like a Pakistani street market, with food stalls and stuff. Sundus brought it all together. Ayesha Nasib of Mezbaan Events did all the catering, and the parathas and daal were to die for! We had bun kebabs, and gol gappas, and lots and lots of fun street food thailas. My sister stood day and night to make sure everything was just right, and she really made sure her baby sister had a dream wedding. Thanks Ami Baji!!! xxxx

Truly one of the most special outfits I have ever seen, I was so so lucky to wear Deena Rahman’s stunning creation on my Baraat. I can’t describe how brilliant she is, and what a great eye she has. I wouldn’t change a thing about the outfit, and I can’t wait to wear it again! The makeup was by Ashi at Nabila’s. And all the decor at the Baraat was by Mahira Munir Events. I’m lucky to count Mahira as a friend, and I was even luckier that she arranged everything at the Baraat and I never had a moment’s worry! Ayesha Nasib of Mezbaan Events provided all the catering, and she is as sweet as she is beautiful. I am so glad to have gotten to know her! The jewellery was all my mother, Rehana Majid Nizami’s, and it was so special to be able to wear it, made me miss her all the more.

Advice for to-be-brides
A wedding is a looooott of planning, especially if you are something of a perfectionist, and want to make sure everyone has a great time, and the logistics are all in order, and no one is stranded at the airport or the Daewoo stop right before a function!! The planning with all your cousins and friends and family is so much fun, so enjoy that part and don’t get too stressed. It’s your special day, so if you want to wear purple on your baraat, go ahead and do whatever you want!! Being married is awesome, so if there’s someone you love, go ahead and take the plunge! Oh, and day time/lunch functions are awesome.

I wore Ammara Khan’s showstopper of an ice blue dress for my Walima. Tariq Amin did my hair and makeup, and I’ve never had that look before, or since, and I really loved it! Must try it again, he’s a genius! The jewellery was custom designed by Tapu Javeri’s family jewellery business in Karachi, and I am so grateful to them for providing me something that I cherish, to be passed down from generation to generation. It was the most gorgeous setting, and admired by one and all!

The Experience
You’d think with all the restaurants opening up in Lahore, the majority of them with the same cuisine wouldn’t have anything too out of the ordinary to offer. However, Jazz Café and grill was a pleasant surprise to the palate. I got a chance to try out the new menu, and speaking on behalf of someone who hasn’t ever gone a week without eating out were this new menu is a must try! For starters, the standard bread sticks and butter were far above the usual norm. From the appetizers, the cheese croquettes were my favourite. The cheese was literally melting out of the croquettes and the honey mustard sauce was the cherry on top; it was divine! I literally dipped everything in it. The beef salad was another delight that was so unique and pleasing to the tongue. The beef was caramelised which to my surprise worked beautifully well with
the slightly spicy veggies. Moving on to the main courses, the new beef steak and scallop chicken were equally matched favourites. May I first point out that I’m a chicken person, so for the beef steak to compete with the cheesy chicken scallop, is saying something. The beef was so tender, soft and cooked to perfection with a yummy sauce and mashed potatoes. The steak is definitely the new selling point; it was nothing like what I’ve had before. The chicken scallop was crispy, cheesy and everything an Italian lover would want. To end things, the new ginger mint crush drink was a more ginger intense version of a mint margarita, but better. I think this new menu for Jazz is going to do great things for them, and it is a highly recommended place from Team Weekend indeed. Until next time, happy eating Weekenders!

Nowadays when we hear ‘Korea’ we’re less inclined to think of the chubby military dictator Kim Jong-un and more likely to think about all the K-beauty and K-pop that’s become increasingly popular. Korean beauty or K-beauty as its known amongst the cool kids, has been around for some time. We’ve all seen the sheet masks on Instagram that look straight out of Hannibal Lecter’s closet and the charcoal bubble masks that again, look like something a serial killer would wear and we’re not going to lie, we’re fascinated. We’ve tried a fair few sheet masks because a) they’re popular and we’re still trying to see the hype and b) we like to pretend we’re Hannibal (we don’t get out much). Any sheet masks we’ve tried in the past have been at best…meh. You put on the wet mask, leave it on a few minutes, remove and dab the remaining ‘essence’ in hopes of a brightened, moisturised complexion. Then you apply the sheet mask before the serum gets dry and leave it on for however long you like. The serum preps the skin and the mask on top traps in the hydration. Wash off your face and dab on any remaining essence left from the packaging (waste not, want not) after, and the results are nothing short of magical—immediately brighter, plumper complexion that feels moisturised and smooth.
Whoever came up with the name of this product, obviously knew what they were doing because naming something ‘beauty water’ is bound to increase sales. Luckily, this stuff of magic (imagine if it was called ‘magical water’) lives up to the hype and works wonders. It’s a cleansing water/brightening toner/ hydrating mist all in one and it delivers on all fronts. Surprisingly, it’s not at all gimmicky and results in clean, brighter and smoother skin. The willow bark and papaya extract in it help sweep away dead skin cells hence the brighter skin tone and smoother skin texture. Lavender water, rose water and orange fruit extract add hydration and subtle moisture to the skin to prepare it for the next steps in your skincare regime.

We love a good mask that can suck out all the gunk from our pores (gross but true) but what we love even more is to make it a little fun and let’s be honest what is more satisfying than a peel-off mask? This ‘fun’ peel-off mask is a bestseller on K-beauty retail websites because the charcoal extract acts as a vacuum for your pores. The mask gets rid of whiteheads, blackheads and dead skin cells, freeing the skin from deep dirt that clogs the pores. The mask contains 4% charcoal extract and caragana sinica that helps control excessive sebum. It is good that you are reaching out for help. That is the first step in any recovery – identification of a problem and acknowledgement that you need help. Your situation is not unique. Divorce has always been there in society and of late it has become more and more common. You need to understand that what is done is done, and you can only move forward from here. That said, had it been a very recent thing, I would have advised you to take time to heal and stay in your comfort zone, be it your parents’ home, alone or with a trusted loved one. However, it has been a year and counting. It is high time to come out of the shadows and reclaim your life. The clock doesn’t stop ticking. There is no reason for you to hide away at all. The world may seem a scary place right now but keep in mind it is the same place you lived in (content) before your horrible experience. The people are the same and the world is the same. All that has changed is your perspective. You say you were cut off from everyone. Well honey, that was done to you but today, you are doing the same to yourself. Isolation breeds phobia. Humans cannot live cut off from others and be alright. You need to come into the light. Start small, invite people you trust over. It is first YA book by Ahern and is set in a Dystopian world. Imagine living in a realm where a moral or ethical mistake can reduce you to a second class citizen, you are branded with an “F” on your skin and you will have to abide by all the rules made by the powerful and respected authority called The Guild. The story revolves around a seventeen-year old girl Celestine and her boyfriend is the son of Head of the Guild. “We see being Flawed as a strength, Celestine. If you make a mistake, you learn from it. If you never make a mistake, you’re never the wiser. These so-called perfect leaders we have now have never made a mistake. How can they have learned what’s right and wrong, how could they have learned anything about themselves? About what they feel comfortable doing, about what they feel is beyond the scope of their character? The more mistake you have made, the more you have learned.” Celestine is the girl who believes in the Guild and its ideology, she strives for perfection but one day a small yet very big decision turns her world upside down. “Knowledge is often a responsibility nobody wants”

Cecilia is a beautiful writer, but I was anxious as to how she will create a dystopian world, but she proved to be exceptional and once again displayed her talents herself as a writer. Flawed is probably one of the best dystopian novels around. When writing something very complex, there are chances of plot holes and dragged scenes but Flawed is paradoxically flawless in this matter and Ahern has very beautifully set up the whole book with the right amount of tension and delicate scenes. It is a very common thing in a dystopian novel to be set apart from the society, to become enemies with the powerful, but what makes Flawed ever more beautiful is the way Cecilia has shown Celestine’s emotional journey and her struggles being a teenager. Most girls will be able to relate to her and she is a very strong protagonist. From start to the very end, Flawed keeps you on the edge of your seat and you will want to know what happens next, it is a page-turner with strong characters. There will come a point when you will be desperate to know what happens to the characters. The book ends on a cliffhanger and it will keep you yearning for more. You can call it well written fiction. With its sequel scheduled in 2017, Flawed is a book which will teach you a lesson or two and those lessons will stay with you forever.

Alishay’s take on her own look: My decision to go for this look was purely based on my love for white. I really enjoy creating different all-white looks and for this one I let my style do all the talking. I focused on layering different white pieces together and kept the shoes neutral. However, I spiced it up by styling it with a low-neck top with black lace detail and a thick velvet choker around my neck. I feel it’s always fun to step out of your comfort zone which is why i chose to go for bold red lips.

We sat down with the fun & cheery team of film Janaan releasing on Eid ul Azha 2016. This bunch looked like they had been friends for the longest time and really made our one on one session with them the hightlight of the week.
Khizra Waqar: What is the movie about? Ali Rehman Khan: The movie revolves around a character called Meena who’s an expat, born and bred in Canada. She comes back to Pakistan after a very long time to attend a wedding. While there, she rekindles the culture of Pakistan. Janaan is about the Pashtun and Punjab culture in a funny, quirky way but also has a serious social message to it. KW: What was the whole experience like, to work together as a team? Bilal Arshaf: The whole experience was a lot fun. Despite meeting on set, we all got along really well and that chemistry certainly reflected on screen. Usman Mukhtar: We all bonded on set so

organically. It was really easy to get along with everybody. Usually when people are working together at any field, they face some politics along the way, but with us, we didn’t have any of it. It was all positive energy. KW: Tell us about your characters. Hania Aamir: My characters name is Palwasha who is the cousin of Meena. She is the laadli of the family; she’s full of life & energy. She’s the kind of person who’d be the first to make amends if there’s a fight in the family. She’s also portrayed as a brave Pashtun girl who fights for a Punjabi guy that she wants to marry. BA: I play the character of Asfand who is

aunt. She’s a very vulnerable but generous and strong Pakhtun girl, which I believe is the USP of the film. KW: How was it different working for the cinema as compared to working for television? AK: I personally really enjoyed working for the big screen. The capacity and reach is global. The whole idea of looking back at the screen in the future and being like ‘hey look, that’s me right there’. And even when you have grandchildren who’d see it too, I’m excited about that prospect. The grander is what allures me to the big screen. Television for me was great to polish my acting and language skills. However, when you first see yourself on the big screen, it is just out of this world! And nothing beats that. The main differenceI feel, is that you cannot hide on the big screen. Your flaws are all out on display. I feel that the big screen is no place to make a mistake because then it’ll be scripted forever. ARK: I don’t think there’s much difference between both. The medium is different but the craft is the same. I just think it’s a little more rushed in dramas, as compared to cinema. Television made me get a better grasp on my Urdu, it taught me discipline, acting and time keeping. You learn on the job. In cinema though, it is a lot more script and emotions

Palwasha’s brother, brought up in Swat. He’s a serious, uptight character. You will see him in a lot of different shades such as romance, fight & vulnerability in his own serious way. ARK: My character is Daniyal who has a dry & sarcastic humour. He’s a typical spoiled Islamabadi boy who’s very flashy, dresses well and has all the latest gadgets. He wears his heart in his sleeve because he’s always falling in love. He’s that guy who always gets the girl. However you will also get to see a serious side of him which is revealed during the course of the film. UM: I play as Sameer Qureshi, a Punjabi guy who’s settled in London. He falls for the Pashtun girl and goes to swat to marry her. Unfortunately her family is not very accepting. So he is constantly trying to impress them. Armeena Khan: I play the lead role of Meena, who is the expat from Canada. She returns to her roots after a very long time. She’s a little bit afraid and doesn’t know what to expect. She’s disconnected from everything but the Pakistani Meena is very much alive on the inside. This is the journey you’ll see throughout the film. She’s very confident; she knows what she wants out of life. She is that friend you’d go to when you’re in trouble like your agony

to cover. Sometimes you don’t shoot in a linear fashion and that can get difficult. I do believe though that you can do a lot more on cinema. It is a larger scale, you can tell different stories, and you have a lot more time to develop your character. That for me makes a big difference because then we can take our time to perfect everything. KW: What is the role of Janaan in the revival of Pakistani cinema? Azfer Jaffri: I think cinema has already revived, and that we’re progressing. Janaan is one step closer to intelligent cinema which I think is going to change the face of Pakistani cinema in front of the entire world. KW: What is the message you guys are trying to convey? AF: With Janaan we are trying to show the beauty of Pakistan and break the stereotypes regarding the Pashtun culture. We are also trying to change the image of Pakistan all over the world. KW: What are your future plans with cinema? AF: we’ve already started working on our next feature, the same team, Imran Kazmi and I. We actually started working on this right after Siyyah, but then Janaan came in so we shifted to that. Now we are shifting to a full on comedy for which we’ll start shooting in December. KW: How was it working with the rest of the cast? AF: I feel like I’m the luckiest person to have worked with these guys, I couldn’t have asked for a better team. KW: What are you hoping to achieve from this movie?

AJ: Like I said, we’re trying to change the image of the industry. Imran and I are trying to escape the criticism for being under the influence of bollywood by coming up with a totally new concept and an original plot. We’re looking forward to seeing how people react to that and hopefully they’ll start believing in our own cinema and culture. We’re hoping to have our own identity. KW: As an actor, what was your favourite part of the movie? Something you’d want to do again. BA: I love action movies! That’s why I really enjoyed the school burning scene the most. It was freezing at the time, and we worked on this one scene for 26 hours nonstop. The scene was so intense and fun though that honestly the time just flew by. I would love to do something like that again. AK: This action scene is definitely a favourite scene of mines too. But personally, the finale is my most favourite scene and you’ll see what I mean when you watch the movie, I can’t giveaway too much. Everyone: We all enjoyed the action scene, it was the adrenaline rush that made it that much more fun for us. KW: What are your future plans? ARK: Lots on the way in shaa Allah but none that can be revealed. BA: I am currently shooting for two films, one is Rangreza, and the other is Jhol. I’m also working on another project with Armeena and Ali which will be revealed early next year. AK: I just shot a British project which is coming out next year. I’m looking to sign a couple more international projects, but they’re very much in the pipeline at the moment.
