2 Yes, shopping with girlfriends is something we do all the time but you know when we normally do it, we try to be sensible and not splurge. On Galentines Day, all bets are off! If you want to splurge with your girlfriend(s) then go ahead: clothes, makeup, cars, diamonds, just put it on the credit card and worry about it when normalcy resumes.
The month of February has become synonymous with Valentine’s Day, no matter how much we try to look past it. It’s a Hallmark ‘holiday’ that is meant to increase consumer spending and couples use the opportunity to slather on some extra cheese. Sickeningly romantic gifts and over the top marriage proposals flood social media as soon as the day is over. We won’t get into the boring history of this day but know this, Valentines is pretty ridiculous and we much prefer the Leslie Knope (Parks & Rec) holiday, Galentines Day. If you don’t want to feed a man chocolate-dipped strawbs then save them for your girls for Galentines Day. This is what we will be getting up to:

Romantic movies are off the menu for a movie night with your gals unless you’re just going to mock the sappiness of it all. Movie night with your girlfriends includes a wide variety of junk food (obvi), cosy pjs, a den made of blankets and pillows (comfort is everything), scary movies, as much Melissa McCarthy as possible and of course, belting out to Beyoncé’s tunes and dancing (moves you would be embarrassed to showcase outside of your lounge) to round off the night. Isn’t that the perfect night?

This is a personal favourite of ours and applies all year round. If you’ve recently come out of a relationship and don’t particularly feel like being surrounded by couples who can’t stop showing off their love to the world then this is something you should do. Take a break from social media and deactivate your personal accounts (not indefinitely), collect all the things that remind you of your significant other, call your girls over, light a bonfire (safely and taking all precautions) and burn the things that cause pain. It’s therapeutic and Marie Kondo (of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up fame) would be proud that you decluttered. Think how Phoebe, Monica and Rachel did it in FRIENDS (but try not to get the fire dept involved). Take some time for yourself—read, watch your favourite shows, cook or bake, go to the gym, anything that will make you feel better.

Get the tissues ready for Erich Segal’s Love Story, a novelisation of the screenplay that later became the eponymous movie starring Ryan O’Neal and Ali MacGraw. In short, this is a story of star-crossed lovers, wealthy jock Oliver Barrett IV and working-class Jennifer Cavilleri, who meet at Harvard, fall in love, marry despite strong objections from Oliver’s family. It gave birth to the famous line “love means not ever having to say you’re sorry” which has become a cliche now used by every young’un that falls in love. What is your fitness philosophy? Listen to your body. Make realistic goals, stay focused and positive towards progress. What are your workout routines like? Workouts last for 45 minutes and vary from class to class in order to keep the client challenged and constantly work different muscle groups. I like to mix up resistance and sprint in every class. Resistance to build muscle and sprints to burn calories. When was your “Aha!” moment? Why spin? I fell in love with spin after attending Soul Cycle classes in New York! I became addicted to how the workout made me feel and the challenge I constantly faced in every class and saw drastic changes in my body and stamina. When was that moment when you realised you needed a change of lifestyle before you got into fitness? Growing up, I was an ex-
tremely unhealthy teenager. I never worked out. Never ate properly and was over weight. When I moved back to Karachi, unemployed, my mother pushed me to do her 7 day detox cleanse in order to help fix my unhealthy habits. I really had no idea what I had signed up for. After the 7 days, my energy levels improved, I lost weight, my skin cleared and I fell in love with the process of looking after ones body. From then onwards I began to change my choices in life, and become healthier for myself. What motivates you to work out every day? My motivation are my clients! They are ones that make my job so worthwhile. Biggest fitness misconception in your opinion? Spinning is bad for the knees. Spinning keeps the pressure off your knees and feet and transfers it to your glutes, hamstrings and quads. Hence no pressure on your knees. What’s your favourite quote or mantra? Always do what suits you. Don’t compare yourself to others. Your workout time is for
YOU. That one hour for yourself where you are allowed to be selfish. The ultimate fat burning food? Coconut Oil Diet discipline (one diet rule you swear by): Healthy Breakfast comprising of all macros: fat, carbs and protein; 2 scrambled eggs, cooked in olive oil or coconut oil. 1 brown toast, 1 avocado and a side of steamed or grilled vegetables. How many cheat meals can I really have? Personally I don’t believe in cheat meals. I feel when you give a person the ‘go ahead’ to have a cheat meal, they over do it, thinking its their last meal! Your diet should be sustainable. Add

When people go on low carb diets, they do loose weight, but that’s because the majority of the weight lost is loss of water and muscle tissue – not fat.
