Spring Gardens

july 02, 2017 | 52

This piece embodies the perfect essence of spring, with lighter hues of pinks and blues, it’s a perfect day-time ensemble. Detailed embroidery and a silk dupatta complete this look, all you have to do is let your hair down.

Midnight Stroll

july 02, 2017 | 53

The midnight blue makes the embroidery and color pop. The outfit is traditional and classy, with embroidery on the hem and front, and a silk dupatta. Pair it up with jhumkas, anklets, and you’ve got the perfect eid look. We paired this with an authentic pazaib and genuine leather khussas.

Shades of Grey

july 02, 2017 | 54

This grey and yellow embroidered piece with a silk dupatta, can be paired beautifully with either silver or gold. Heavy embroidery on the neck and the ‘painted’ look in the front gives it a regal vibe, and so we added a touch of two tiered necklace to complement the look.

Summer Woe

This classy feminine outfit deserves all the attention, with detailed embroidery on the neck, and floral patterns all around on a bed of sky blue. We paired this with glass earrings and blue bowed heels, and a high pony tail.

look easy steps to look flawless the fool-proof classic way

prep your skin In this extreme hot weather, primary goal is to take care of your skin. What you need to do is moisturise and use a Sunblock - my personal favourite is La Prairie Cellular Swiss UV Protection Veil. It is a lightweight formula which is designed to use over your moisturiser.

Flawless Skin that Breathes Full coverage cake like foundations are so out dated. The key is to look flawless with minimal amount of foundation. MAC Mineralize Foundation is best for such weather. A lightweight, lush texture nourishes skin instantly with mineral-rich hydration. It is ideal for dry skin, blends effortlessly with medium coverage and a satin finish.

For a while, the brow craze had reached new proportions with big, bold HD brows becoming the order of the day. However, for 2017, it’s all about the “full, and natural” look. Therefore put your brow pomades on a side and use brow powders to fill them in and fix them in place using a brow gel.

weekend | lifestyle

Full and Natural Brows

Glow Up

Keep your eyes simple and sexy wearing some show stopping pair of heavy eyelashes. Having a pair of mink eyelashes is essential for every girl who is a beauty addict. Just keep your eyes nude and simple, apply Huda Beauty Falsies, lots of Mascara on your lower lashes and you are good to go.

Candy Apple Lips Red lipstick is a classic and never goes out of fashion. The key is to apply it with utter precision. You can play with the color from red to coral or bright orange. Gloss them up with a little vaseline or a transparent lipgloss and you’re good to go.

july 02, 2017 | 59

Lash it Out

Radiant, glowing skin will always be a big celeb beauty trend. Highlighting has consistently been a great route for emphasizing the points of your face where the light hits. Just a touch on your cupids bow, cheekbones, brow arches and inner corner of eyes will give your skin a naturally gorgeous finish. Use a natural peachy tone blush to give your cheeks a flushed look.

artist behind O s ta ky A rt

What does the word art means to you? To me, Art is making the ordinary extra ordinary, from usual to special. It’s that strong urge to create something that pleases or affects ones senses. It’s a strong dialogue with the viewer, a conversation created through design, material and space but that s not it; it’s the experience of being a part of that magical process of creating something. By seeing things go from nothing to something, I think it can really change perceptions.

What was the very first piece that you created? I remember when I was eleven years old; my father got some ducklings for the house. I thought I should make a pond for them, so I began digging. I made little huts out of twigs and mud, and pathways that they never understood. The next day my brother helped me build more things around it. It was quite fun to look at. Like a small doll house, that may crumble if you touch it. I felt powerful in front of that miniature piece of land. I’ve always been fond of either miniature pieces or pieces that are larger than life. It’s either a feeling of complete menace or fear or feeling of inspiration and hope. One of my very first pieces that I created was an installation made out of scooped out pieces from the ground, hanged with fish wires from a 25 feet high ceiling, around a piece of cotton. It was curated in a spiral space in such a way that one could lie down and feel the weight of it. Just like a new born baby in a cart, under the mobile.

weekend | FASHion

How would you describe your pieces? Like an itch in your throat, you gargle to get rid of it. My work is usually a glimpse of my childhood memories that really works as a medicine for me, and I hope it does the same to the people that see it. My pieces are contemporary.

july 02, 2017 | 61

What kind of art do you most identify with? The human body has a lot to say. You’re naturally drawn to it, but I guess that’s the easy way out. I seek pleasure in things that are challenging the laws of physics like hovering and levitating, to think of something that is heavy and making it look as if it’s weightless. Sometimes, it’s about the nature of how an artist sets the composition of his art pieces while at other times it could just be how the hand is positioned; Art that is three dimensional, simple, fun, bold and colourful. What is important to me is the story, the message, the feeling, the connection, how do you make that reach people. It’s the combination of visual simplicity and the power of spirit and soul.

What is your work influenced by? I am driven by my curiosities by learning more about what made people comfortable in space. Like those Zen gardens in the Japanese culture, when you walk in, it gives you a lighter feeling; People meditating under humongous trees and rocks just to put the weight of their chest. For Instance, like the time when you’re driving somewhere into the mountains and you see a huge piece of rock popping out on top of you and you feel it might just fall but you drive through and you feel your tummy tickling, that feeling.

In what ways do you think art in Pakistan needs to evolve? I think people of Pakistan need to be tolerant and must accept everyone’s opinion. To let go of the “no but” and use “and also” approach to flourish. Our people are the fourth intelligent Nation on the face of the Earth. If we do large scale murals, public installations, those marches like the Macy’s parade that happens in America, I think they can set a great example for rest of the world by spreading the message of love and peace. Our country is in the lime light, we can prove that besides all that has been happening, we are the most peaceful people present.

Name a few artists who inspire you. I just love Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang’s work. I think he’s a legend! He’s a New York Based artist and does paintings with gunpowder. One of my favourite pieces that he has made is “the sky ladder”. I also like Beth Cavener Sticher’s work. She’s an American artist from California who forms animals by hollowing out blocks of clay, giving her subjects a raw, unrefined appearance as if they sprang from the material itself. Cavener focuses her sculpture on human psychology, stripped of context and rationalization, and articulated through animal forms.

Is there anyone in particular you would like to create a piece for? Who would it be and why? Yes, I want to create a piece for the public, I want them to interact and revive the street life here. I think I could connect with them in a better way. Make them realize that it’s ok to accommodate and tolerate each other. That’s what I can do in society. I can’t solve any other problems, but provoke, because I deeply care about humanity.

What is your ultimate dream as an artist? I’ll be honest, my ultimate dream is to create art that people will appreciate one way or the other and to have a house on top of a hill, which is portable and can be lifted above the trees to have a greater view of the natural areas around. Something that can be modified and has the margin to change in many ways. Just like one of Anish Kapoor’s houses in the Bahamas. Its barely visible from the road and has maximum view towards the sea. I want such space because I want nature to keep inspiring me constantly and I could make better art.
