A Message from Paul Grove

Dear Friends of WEDU PBS,

Holiday traditions are a meaningful way for families to celebrate the season. For my family, food memories play a significant role. While growing up, holidays provided an exciting opportunity to visit our family on the farm in Wisconsin. We enjoyed ham, homemade biscuits, and corn on the cob. My sweetest memories of unforgettable desserts include Norwegian Christmas treats

passed down for generations to my grandmother and mom.

My 83-year-old mom is still a fantastic baker. This year, keeping with tradition, Mom, who is now “Gram” to my four sons, will share some of these same treats with us. Her recipes for Egg Pancakes, Sandbakkels, and Krumkake will continue to be part of our holiday celebration. See my family’s version of these traditional Norwegian recipes at wedu.org/blogs

PBS provides food inspiration year round that comes from a long line of incredible chefs, including the first lady of cooking, Julia Child, to the bakers featured in the Great British Baking Show to the most-watched cooking show on PBS, America’s Test Kitchen. And if you haven’t discovered it yet, How She Rolls is a culinary docuseries following the life of Carrie Morey, who launched a restaurant inspired by her mother’s family biscuit recipe. HURRICANE RELIEF STAFF DONATION DRIVE

In the spirit of helping our neighbors, WEDU PBS collected donations from staff of hurricane relief supplies. The donations were delivered to Catholic Charities to further their mission of helping the victims of Hurricane Ian.

What she does at WEDU: I am part of the Membership department; my title is Development Coordinator. I provide customer service to our donors, process all incoming money that comes in through our online services, send thank you letters to our donors weekly and monthly, oversee our Kids Club Membership program, and am a part of PLEDGE, which is our fundraising campaign.

Time dedicated: I have worked at WEDU for 27 ½ years.

Hobbies & passions: I like to read. My passion is my family, especially my grandkids. Favorite PBS program: I love Rick Steves and the Create channel.

Cuban Kitchen with Dennis Perez pays homage to this Create Cooking Challenge Second Prize Winner's family's multi-generational, traditional recipes from their original home in Cuba. Perez selected three family favorites to premiere his digital series featuring recipes for breakfast, dinner and dessert.

THE EARTHSHOT PRIZE 2022

The Earthshot Prize, a global environmental prize founded by Prince William and The Royal Foundation in 2020, aims to

spotlight, support and scale groundbreaking solutions to our world’s most pressing environmental challenges. Inspired by the extraordinary achievements of President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot, The Earthshot Prize is centered on repairing our planet through five Earthshots: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean Our Air, Revive Our Oceans, Build A Waste-Free World, and Fix Our Climate. Held in the United States for the first time, the second annual Earthshot Prize will be hosted in Boston. With starstudded international celebrities presenting the awards, the prestigious ceremony will celebrate a cohort of fifteen incredible global finalists and award five winners, each with £1 million in prize money, and provide them with access to a global support network to scale their work.
