Dear Friends of WEDU PBS,
Do you recall your first outdoor adventure in Florida? Was it a family vacation at the beach? A boat ride to the ocean or kayaking off the Florida mangroves?
For me, it was discovering Ichetucknee Springs State Park while I was a student at the University of Florida. The experience left an indelible mark on me, igniting a lifelong
love for the outdoors and the State Parks in Florida. This connection to nature has shaped my life in many ways.
Just recently, my family and I had the joy of embarking on a Florida beach vacation. With my four (nearly) grown boys, our dog Memphis and my wife Michelle, we created cherished memories enjoying our state's breathtaking coastline. These moments are a powerful reminder of the importance of family, nature, and the wonders we strive to capture.
We have yet to explore Florida's most famous river, the Suwanee, but I've found a new inspiration that you may enjoy.
America Outdoors with Baratunde Thurston is an adventure-filled journey across the U.S. to discover how nature shapes how Americans work, play, and interact with the outdoors.
This season's premiere episode, Suwannee: Wild River, on Wednesday, September 6 at 8 p.m., is a must-watch program for any Floridian.
The Suwannee is one of the last wild rivers in America, and its watershed creates woods and wetlands, marshes, and cave systems. From its headwaters in the Okefenokee Swamp, Baratunde journeys downstream, meeting colorful denizens of the Suwannee. From jet skiers to herpetologists, manatees to snapping turtles, he learns how this unique environment inspires a range of passions.
Baratunde's adventures remind me of storytelling's incredible impact on our lives. America Outdoors entertains and educates, inspiring us to appreciate the beauty of our natural surroundings and the significance of preserving them.
Your contributions are the foundation upon which WEDU and PBS build incredible stories about the world around us. Your ongoing commitment to WEDU enables us to continue producing content that enriches lives, broadens horizons, and fosters deeper appreciation.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your generosity, passion, and belief in storytelling's power. I am so proud to have you as a part of our family. As always, I invite your comments and feedback. If you want to share some of your favorite Florida outdoor adventures, email me today at paulgrove@wedu.org.
And… maybe I'll see you soon on the Suwanee!
Onward and upward!

RAYS UP!
WEDU invited viewers to enter for a chance to attend a Tampa Bay Rays game with WEDU CEO Paul Grove. One of the lucky winners was Lisa Starks.
FROM LEFT: Paul and Michelle Grove, Lisa Starks, and Jack Estes. Lisa is a huge fan of Masterpiece, and Jack loves Ken Burns. Even though they have both been fans of the Tampa Bay Rays since opening day, WEDU’s documentary Rise of the Rays taught them fascinating history about the team! Watch it now at wedu.org/rays.
On July 29th, WEDU PBS hosted a Spanish-language premiere of Alma’s Way: Alma Goes to Puerto Rico. This free, fun-filled event was held at the Branscomb Auditorium at Florida Southern College. Families joined in the celebration with Puerto Rican festivities, giveaways, and a bomba dance party!
What she does at WEDU: I am the Account Specialist. Yes, you guessed correctly: I prepare customer invoices/billing and track & reconcile sales contracts. I process invoices for cash distribution and process payments. And that’s not all; I also assist with budgeting, reviews, external auditors, journal entries, and much more!
Time dedicated: Almost 17 months.
Hobbies & passions: I love cooking up Indian cuisines, have a passion for trying out new things, and of course, living a healthy lifestyle. I love long peaceful walks, swimming, and finding creative ways to paint, decorate, enhance, and embellish nails.
Favorite PBS program: I like watching WEDU Arts Plus, which provides a stage for artistic individuals to tell their stories.
“I really enjoy my time with the WEDU team and have learned a lot from each and every person. My journey at WEDU has been filled with amazing memories and experiences. One thing for sure is that WEDU staff are resilient and always striving to succeed, no matter how challenging the circumstances are. I personally appreciate the support and assistance, collaboration, and leadership.
