A Message from Paul Grove Dear Friends of WEDU PBS, As we welcome the new year, I reflect on the melodies of "Auld Lang Syne," a timeless tune that speaks to shared moments and enduring connections. In this spirit of celebration and gratitude, I sincerely thank each of you for your support of WEDU PBS. You enable us to deliver award-winning local programming to our community, shedding light on untold stories and diverse perspectives. I am thrilled to share with you that in 2023, WEDU garnered recognition for its exceptional storytelling and extraordinary programming, receiving ten Suncoast Regional EMMY® Nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. I am pleased to announce that, last month, WEDU received four EMMY® Awards. Among the winners were two accolades for Rise of the Rays: A Devil of a Story, a WEDU Arts Plus feature titled “Sphinx Virtuosi,” and the documentary Last to Ask, a spotlight on first responders' mental health struggles and solutions. I deeply appreciate these locally produced programs and the talented storytellers who bring them to life. My gratitude extends to our generous donors, whose support makes this work possible. For more information about our EMMY® Awards and to watch the winning programs, please visit wedu.org/emmy2023. Our team at WEDU is excited as we look ahead to 2024 with a lineup of programs, including: • A new addition to our community-wide hyperlocal Greater series, Greater Lakeland (to follow Sarasota, Ybor City, and St. Petersburg). • Voting and civics content focused on the impact of civic participation. • A documentary exploring perspectives on our changing environment. • Additional election coverage on Florida This Week. • A digital series focused on sustainable Florida food. I am optimistic about our future and our impactful work, and I look forward to connecting with you in the coming year. In the spirit of "Auld Lang Syne," a song that reminds us to cherish memories, I extend warm wishes for a happy and healthy new year to each and every one of you.

WEDU PBS Staff Spotlight: January 2024

Hannah Winter What she does at WEDU: I'm a Producer here at WEDU—the newest addition to the Production team! As a Producer, I create video content for both digital and broadcast platforms and develop projects from pre-production all the way to post-production editing. Time dedicated: I started working at WEDU in September of 2023. Hobbies & passions: When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time outdoors and being active. I play several co-ed sports, including soccer, pickleball, and kickball. I also love reading and binge-watching TV shows when I have time. I love hanging out with family and friends, especially when it’s a game night—trivia, card games, and board games make everything more fun! Favorite PBS program: I really like Human Footprint with Shane Campbell-Staton. I always learn something crazy and new with every episode!

“

Being a part of the WEDU team is a great experience. I'm very passionate about bringing great stories to life on screen, and at WEDU, I am surrounded by people who share that same passion. Everyone on the staff is extremely supportive and encouraging, and I feel lucky to be able to explore my creativity and continue to learn in this collaborative environment!
