New exhibition at RAC

Riverside Arts Center, 34 E. Quincy St., will open a new solo exhibition in its Freeark and FlexSpace galleries with “Still,” featuring the work of Jerry Bleem on Sunday, Sept. 6. The show will run through Oct. 17.

A continuation of his extended series “Nationalism,” begun in response to the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq, “Still” transforms well-used American Žags into contemplative objects, crocheting narrow strips into art work ranging from wall-size tapestries to palm-size soft sculptures.

Participation is by appointment only and each person will be allotted a 10-minute time slot. Space is limited so call 708-447-0869 to reserve a time. Rex will appraise one item per person (no „ rearms, Native American or Asian antiques please). And more 28 at Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The funds raised at the outing will support the mission of Young Life in the local community.

Voting during a pandemic

Do you have a plan for how you’re going to vote in the upcoming presidential election? Illinois passed emergency legislation for safe voting during COVID-19, so there’s something new to learn whether you’re a ™ rst-time voter or you’ve been voting since the Eisenhower era.

The LaGrange Area League of Women Voters is joining forces with local libraries and the Oak Park/River Forest League of Women Voters for a non-partisan review of voter registration, new vote-by-mail processes, and expanded early voting.

The meetings will be held via Zoom with a short presentation followed by a Q&A discussion.

Homeschooling 101

With a pandemic forcing education leaders to take unprecedented measures, some families are opting for homeschooling instead.

Brook†eld Public Library is oˆ ering those new to the homeschooling scene an opportunity to hear from a veteran at “Homeschooling 101: Elementary School” on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.

The special Zoom program will be presented by Jean Dukes, who will share her experiences and let you know what you need to get started with elementary school-age children.

Riverside Reads returns

The Riverside Public Library, 1 Burling Road, will resume its in-person Riverside Reads book club on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. for a safe, socially distanced discussion of “The Overstory” by Richard Powers.
