Lt. Richard Jicka, a 1937 graduate of Riverside-Brookfield High School, sits at the controls of his PBY Catalina patrol bomber in the South Pacific in 1943 during World War II. The 23-year-old Jicka and seven other crewmen died when the plane crashed while on a reconnaissance mission over the Solomon Islands that November.
